Illegal mining: 50K reward each on heads of 3 accused
Chandigarh: A day after the arrest of Sher Mohammad for alleged illegal mining in the eco-sensitive Aravalis, Haryana's anti-corruption bureau Tuesday announced a reward of Rs 50,000 each on the heads of three other key accused, including a suspended sarpanch, who have been dodging investigation and arrest. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Besides Hanif alias Hanna, the suspended sarpanch of Basai Mew village in Nuh, the other two against whom a cash award has been announced include Shaukat, son of Rehman, who is the brother of another accused, Shabir. Mining leases in Rajasthan's Chapra and Nangal were taken in Shaukat's name by Shabir. Being the village head, Hanif reportedly proposed the construction of two illegal routes during village consolidation to the consolidation officials, on behalf of the village council. These routes were used for transporting illegal mining materials, resulting in undue economic gain. Confirming the development, ACB director general Alok Mittal said investigations are at a significant stage. "Every person named in the FIR or whose name or role crops up during investigation shall be put behind bars. No one found guilty, including govt officials, will be spared," he added. It may be recalled that acting on the recommendation of the CEC constituted on the directions of SC, the ACB registered a case under sections 201, 318(2), 316(2), 61, 270, 329(3), 303 BNS, Section 21 of the Mines & Minerals (Development & Regulations) Act 1957, Section 15(1) of the Environment Protection Act 1986, and Section 19 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) 1900 at the anti-corruption Bureau, Gurugram on June 1. It is alleged that in violation of the directions of MoEF and SCI, the mining mafia, in connivance with local political leaders and mining department officials, carried out illegal mining in the fragile Aravalis in the Nuh belt. Stray dog menace in Kannur: BJP to launch protest
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) north district president K.K. Vinod Kumar has said that the party will launch a strong protest against what he described as 'criminal negligence' on the part of the Kannur Corporation and the district panchayat in addressing the worsening stray dog menace in the city. Mr. Vinod Kumar said fear had gripped the city, especially among children, many of whom were now avoiding school. 'People are afraid of walking on the streets. Hospital visitors, schoolchildren, and city residents are being attacked. Hiring of autorickshaws has increased out of fear, putting financial strain on common people,' he said. 'The Mayor claims it is not the Corporation's responsibility, and the district panchayat president washes her hands of the issue, blaming the Corporation. Both have failed the people. They should at least read the Panchayat Raj Act to understand their roles,' he added. Alleging poor implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, Mr. Vinod Kumar said that it was being operated with just a four-member team despite thousands of stray dogs in the district. 'The system must be expanded, and local bodies should act immediately to catch and shelter stray dogs,' he said. He also pointed to poor waste management by the Corporation as a contributing factor to the rising stray dog population. As part of the agitation, the BJP will organise a march to the Corporation office June 24, he said.
