
Bengaluru: One App For All Your Rides? Namma Metro QR Tickets Go Live On 12 Platforms
Namma Metro now lets you book QR tickets through apps like Redbus, Rapido, and more via ONDC.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has rolled out QR-code based ticket booking across 12 digital platforms.
This upgrade comes through a partnership with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), allowing commuters to buy metro tickets using a wider range of travel apps.
Until now, passengers could book tickets through the Namma Metro app, Paytm, or the official WhatsApp chatbot. But from now on, they'll also be able to use apps like EaseMyTrip, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometres (via Telegram), Namma Yatri, OneTicket, Rapido, Redbus, Tummoc, and Yatri–City Travel Guide.
Sri Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of BMRCL, shared that this move is a major milestone in building a seamless, multimodal transport system. With auto-rickshaw and cab services already linked to ONDC since 2023, the addition of metro ticketing completes the bigger picture.
As per Hindustan Times, he said, 'This is a huge step forward for smart travel. Now, people can plan their journey from doorstep to destination using just one app—saving both time and effort."
BMRCL's goal is to create a well-connected transport system that combines first-, middle-, and last-mile options. With this QR-based ticketing system, commuters don't need to hop between apps or stand in long queues anymore. Everything is now just a few taps away.
This initiative reflects BMRCL's larger goal: building an inclusive and tech-friendly travel experience for everyone in Bengaluru. By embracing open digital networks, the metro is becoming more accessible, user-friendly, and ready for the future.

Frustrated by spending more than two hours to travel just 11 kilometers on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR), EaseMyTrip co-founder Prashant Pitti has pledged Rs 1 crore to fix the city's chronic traffic problems with the help of artificial intelligence and satellite data. In a post shared on X, Pitti shared about being stuck for 100 minutes at a single intersection on Saturday night, with no traffic signal or police presence to manage the chaos. 'I don't want one more Bengaluru traffic meme or rant. I want to fix it,' he wrote. Further, Pitti cited Google Maps' recently launched 'Road Management Insight' tool, which provides city-level traffic data through BigQuery. He suggested using AI and satellite imagery to highlight the city's worst choke points to support better urban planning and traffic management. Pitti offered to fund up to Rs 1 crore toward the initiative personally. This includes covering the cost of hiring one or two experienced ML/AI engineers, paying for Google Maps API usage, obtaining satellite imagery, and setting up the GPU infrastructure required to process large-scale traffic data. Bengaluru Metro to get 9, not 45, acres for Hebbal transport hub
Bengaluru: Buckling under pressure from political and real-estate lobbies, the govt Monday reduced BMRCL's land requirement for the Namma Metro rail project at Hebbal, in north Bengaluru, from 45 to 9 acres. With this, all future infrastructure facilities such as depot for Metro trains and even multi-level parking systems for train users stand nixed. Instead, what will come up at the important transport hub will be high-rise commercial buildings, upscale residential facilities, and star hotels to be constructed by private players. At the high-power committee meeting chaired by chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh in the city, BMRCL said it had scaled down its land requirement. Interestingly, it was BMRCL which had earlier sought 45 acres in Hebbal from Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) for establishing a comprehensive transport hub. However, in a surprising turn, BMRCL chose to drastically reduce its land request. This reduction has alarmed urban planners and mobility experts, who warn that shrinking the land footprint could severely limit the project's capacity to support multi-modal integration, parking and to provide other commuter amenities. When contacted about the decision to scale down the request, BMRCL managing director Maheshwar Rao declined to comment.
