YouTuber Kanika Devrani claims she was drugged, robbed on train to Assam; Railways responds
In a video shared on Instagram titled 'Travel Safe', Devrani claimed she lost consciousness during the journey and discovered her iPhone missing when the train halted at New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal. She alleged that an unauthorised person entered her compartment, sprayed a sedative, and stole her phone. A co-passenger also reported a similar experience, she said.
'First class AC tickets weren't available, so I booked a 2AC ticket thinking it would be safe. At New Jalpaiguri, while I was asleep and my phone was charging near my berth, someone took it,' Devrani said in her reel.
The vlogger questioned how someone without a valid ticket was able to enter a reserved coach. She further alleged that Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel did not cooperate with her even after she located her phone via a tracking app in West Bengal's Malda district.
Devrani also posted about the incident on social media, tagging West Bengal Police and Malda Police, and urged authorities to take action.
Responding to her complaint, Railway Seva (@RailwaySeva) wrote on X, 'For necessary action, escalated to the concerned official.'
The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions online, with several users calling out the lack of security in long-distance trains, particularly for women.
'Very sad to see this. Thank God you're safe, Kanika,' one user commented, while another wrote, 'Is it really this easy for anyone to enter reserved coaches without supervision? What safety are you providing to your passengers?'
Some also criticised the broader state of railway security. 'Safety is a joke in India,' one comment read.
As of now, there is no official word from the RPF or local police on whether an investigation has been launched.

19-year-old arrested for riding bike on mountain railway track in Coimbatore last year
On January 14, 2024, he and his father, who works in a private firm, travelled to Coonoor on a cruiser bike. During their trip, they paused in the Old Dargah area between Mettupalayam and Coonoor on the Ghat road, where the youth rode his bike onto the railway tracks and posed for photos. His father recorded this event on his mobile phone. On April 22, 2024, the youth uploaded these photos and videos to his Instagram account. Following the Telangana incident, the content was widely shared on social media from the last week of June. Once the video gained attention, the RPF registered a case under sections 164, 147, 159, and 145(b) of the Railways Act. The youth and his father were detained on Thursday. During questioning, they apologised for their actions, explaining that they only intended to take photos. They were produced before the railway court at the RPF office on Friday evening, and further investigation is ongoing. RPF officials said that driving vehicles on railway tracks is illegal and considered to be a serious offence. Additionally, on Friday, they released a video in which both the son and father are seen apologising for their actions.

Woman survives after being pushed from moving train by hubby in Ramgarh
Ramgarh: The govt rail police (GRP) at Barkakana in Ramgarh district under the East Central Railway (ECR) have contacted their counterparts at Varanasi UP to trace a person identified as Shankar Kumar (25), who is accused of pushing his wife, Kushbhoo Kumari, from a moving train here on Thursday. GRP personnel said the couple was travelling on the Varanasi Express on Thursday when the accused allegedly pushed his wife between Bhurkunda and Patratu railway stations. The victim was found lying unconscious on the tracks and was later rescued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). They admitted her a local govt hospital here, from where she has been referred to Rims. Manohar Barla, officer in charge of the govt rail police (GRP) in Barkakana said, "A railway lineman found the injured woman in a ditch and alerted RPF in Patratu. With the help of dial 108, she was later admitted to Sadar Hospital in Ramgarh, from where she was referred to RIMS in Ranchi." He said that the victim in her statement told them that she hails from Devaria in Uttar Pradesh and was travelling to Varanasi from Barkakana Junction with her husband. "They married a year back," Barla said quoting the woman, adding that the victim claimed that her husband tried to kill her but wanted to look like an accident. "We have contacted our counterparts to further the probe and trace the culprits," he said.
