Union Minister Satish Chandra targets 100 million tonnes of underground coal production by 2030
The announcement came during his two-day visit to South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), underlining the govt's renewed focus on boosting underground coal output and achieving energy self-reliance.
Speaking during his visit to SECL's Baikunthpur area, the Minister emphasized that 'coal is a cornerstone of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,' and reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to modernizing mining operations across the country.
On the second day of his tour, the Minister virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art Continuous Miner at the NCPH Mine in Chirimiri area, which is expected to significantly enhance underground coal production. He also launched the Main Mechanical Ventilator (MMV) at Churcha Mine, designed to improve airflow deep within the mine, thus ensuring safer and more efficient working conditions.
'Our goal is to scale underground production using modern, mechanized methods.
The commissioning of this low-height Continuous Miner is a major step forward,' Dubey stated, highlighting the machine's capability to work in restricted underground conditions while increasing productivity.
The Minister also inaugurated bio-toilets for female employees at the Churcha Mine, a move hailed as a step forward in promoting inclusivity and better hygiene facilities for women in mining.
On the first day of his visit, the Union Minister inspected the Dipka mega project, a flagship SECL operation. He reviewed production targets, visited worker camps, and interacted with employees. A detailed presentation showcased the project's growth trajectory and future expansion plans.
Dubey confirmed that Coal India is now venturing into the exploration of critical minerals, aligning with India's broader strategic interests in resource security.

153 countries importing toys from India: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): India's toy industry, once heavily dependent on imports, is now manufacturing domestically and exporting to 153 countries, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal addressing the 16th Toy Biz International B2B Expo 2025 on Friday said as he highlighted this remarkable transformation. He said that this shift has been made possible through consistent policy support, the enforcement of quality standards, and the strengthening of local manufacturing clusters. The implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO), he added, has helped make India a quality-conscious country and enabled domestic toy manufacturers to meet global benchmarks. The Minister stated that India's population of 1.4 billion offers a vast captive market, which creates a natural advantage for scaling up manufacturing. With this scale, the industry can achieve cost efficiency and become globally competitive. The large domestic market, he said, not only supports expansion but also acts as a foundation for international growth. To capture the global market, Goyal stressed the need for the industry to focus on good branding, attractive packaging, and strong product design. He said that if these three aspects are prioritised, Indian toys can gain stronger appeal across international markets. The growth of the toy industry, Goyal noted, reflects the broader journey of development in the country. He recalled that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Vocal for Local initiative, it was met with skepticism by many, as foreign products dominated consumer preference. However, under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the belief that Local can go Global, awareness and support for home-grown industries have steadily increased. Goyal stated that startups developing innovative toy concepts have received significant support through the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, which has now been extended to 20 years. This, he said, has provided access to collateral-free loans for small businesses. He further informed that to promote domestic production, 18 toy clusters across the country have been supported by the Ministry of MSME. To build on this progress, the Minister said that the government is planning to introduce a new promotional scheme for the toy sector. The scheme, he explained, will aim to help Indian toy manufacturers become world-class by enhancing design capabilities, ensuring quality manufacturing, strengthening packaging, and supporting brand building. With sustained focus on innovation, quality, and market development, Goyal expressed confidence that India's toy industry is poised to become a key player in the global market. (ANI)

Catalysing entry into the formal workforce
Even as its overall economic heft grows, unemployment continues to be a major worry in the world's most populous country. According to the World Bank, India's employment rate has indeed shown a positive trend in recent years, with its growth outpacing the increase in the working-age population. However, large regional and demographic variations persist in the labour market. The recent move by the central government to launch an employment-linked incentive scheme with an allocation of ₹99,446 crore aims to bridge some of the gaps. Recently cleared by the Union cabinet, the scheme aims at skilling young Indians and providing them fresh opportunities, apart from formalising more of the workforce and bolstering social security. The goal is to create over 3.5 crore formal jobs over two years, of which nearly 2 crore will be entrants to the workforce. Among these first-timers, employees will be eligible to get up to ₹15,000 deposited in their provident fund accounts. On the other side, employers will be given incentives for up to two years for generating additional jobs, with the benefits extended for another two years for the manufacturing sector.

CPI urges Naidu to seek Central aid for mango farmers in State
Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary K. Ramakrishna on Friday expressed serious concern over the plight of mango farmers in Andhra Pradesh and urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to immediately respond and initiate steps to procure mangoes through central assistance. In a statement released on Friday (July 4), Mr. Ramakrishna highlighted that while Andhra Pradesh is renowned nationwide for its mango production, farmers are currently suffering due to lack of procurement support. He noted that the Central government has already agreed to intervene in Karnataka under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for 2025–26, fixing the procurement price at ₹1,616 per quintal for up to 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes. This intervention came after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan responded to a request from Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, representing Karnataka. 'It is unfortunate that despite Andhra Pradesh playing a key role in the Central coalition government, mango farmers here continue to face immense hardship,' he said. He criticised the TDP-led alliance government in the State for its inaction on the issue. 'It is disappointing that the State government has shown no initiative to address the crisis, even though the Central government is supporting Karnataka farmers.' Mr. Ramakrishna appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene immediately, hold discussions with the Central government, and ensure that a similar Market Intervention Scheme is implemented in the State to safeguard the interests of thousands of mango farmers.
