
Rajeeve launches Layam Housing project in Idukki
The Industries department on Monday launched the Layam Housing project in Idukki aimed at renovating and constructing layams (cluster houses) in the plantation sector.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve said under the housing project, the government would provide ₹50,000 for renovating existing layams and ₹2 lakh for constructing new ones. The government had allotted ₹10 crore in the last two Budgets for the project.
The Minister said the establishment of the plantation directorate had brought in changes in the plantation sector in the State. After setting up the directorate, the government had directed the Indian Institute of Management- Kozhikode to study issues in the plantation sector.
'The IIMK had submitted a report to the government and after its approval, the recommendations will be implemented in the plantation sector,' Mr. Rajeeve said.
Officials said 83 layams had been selected for renovation under the project in Idukki and works on 10 units at AVT Karadikkuzhi Estate, near Peerumade, had been completed. Mr. Rajeeve inaugurated the housing project at Karadikkuzhi on Monday.

Rajeeve said the Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS), held earlier in Kochi, attracted Rs 1.96 lakh crore in investments. Kerala also recorded 100% growth in foreign direct investment (FDI), making it the top achiever in ease of doing business, as per a recent Union govt report. He said coordinated efforts by the govt and industries department have significantly reduced the failure rate of new MSMEs. Based on studies by IIM Indore and the Centre for Management Development, the govt will soon launch Mission 10000, aiming to scale up 10,000 nano enterprises to generate a combined turnover of Rs 1 lakh crore. An MoU between the directorate of industries and commerce and the Kera project was signed at the event.

IIM Kashipur begins academic year 2025–27 with 433 students; 115 women join MBA (Analytics) batch
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur has commenced the academic year 2025–27 by inducting 433 students across its key programmes — the MBA, MBA (Analytics), and PhD. The induction programme was held from June 23 to 26, followed by the formal inaugural session on June 27, 2025. As of June 27 (noon), the new cohort includes 265 students in the flagship MBA programme, 157 students in the MBA (Analytics) programme, and 11 doctoral research scholars under the PhD programme. Students admitted this year represent a mix of academic streams including arts, commerce, science, and engineering, along with varied professional experiences. Female representation at 46% across programmes A significant highlight of this year's intake is the gender composition. Out of the total 433 students, 201 are female, making up approximately 46% of the batch. The MBA (Analytics) programme has 115 female students out of 157, accounting for 73% of that cohort. The MBA programme has 82 women, representing 31% of the intake. Among the 11 PhD scholars, four are women and seven are men. This marks a continued trend of increased participation by women in management education at the institute. The newly inducted students bring with them work experience from a range of companies including Infosys, Accenture, Deloitte, Wipro, Larsen and Toubro, Cognizant, Capgemini, ICICI Bank, EY, HCL, HDFC Bank, and Byju's. Their varied professional backgrounds contribute to the peer learning environment within the programmes, adding practical insight to classroom discussions. Industry and global engagement through induction sessions As part of the induction, students interacted with business leaders and professionals from across industries. Sessions were conducted by Jitendra Gohil, CFA and Chief Investment Strategist at Kotak Alternate Asset Managers Limited, and Nitin Madan, Managing Director and CFO of Barclays GCC India, who spoke on finance, leadership, and strategic thinking. The inaugural session on June 27 featured guest speakers from international academic institutions. Dr. Anuradha Basu, Director of the Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship at San Jose State University, and Mr. Gurmeet Naroola, Adjunct Professor at the same university and former executive at Apple and Mahindra GenZe, led a session on innovation, AI, and entrepreneurial collaboration between IIM Kashipur and Silicon Valley. They discussed trends in AI adoption, global startup ecosystems, and pathways for international academic partnerships. According to a statement from the institute, through participation in initiatives such as the Study in India Programme, the institute aims to promote international collaboration in research, faculty exchange, and student mobility.

Aavin comes up with action plan to increase sales in rural areas: T.N. Dairy Minister
The Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers Federation (Aavin) has come out with an action plan to increase its milk and milk product sales in rural areas of Tamil Nadu. The Minister for Milk and Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj told the media in Coimbatore on Friday (June 27, 2025) that at a recent review meeting, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin advised the Department to look at increasing sales in rural areas. Based on his suggestions, the milk and dairy development department has come up with an action plan. It will soon open Aavin booths in rural areas too and the sales will increase in a couple of months. Mission White Wave The Department has also come out with a project called the Mission White Wave to make the sick co-operative societies profitable. It has signed agreements with Rathinam and Kumaraguru business schools in Coimbatore. The second year MBA students in these institutions will work with 1,365 milk co-operative societies for three-and-a-half months to turn them profitable. They will take up social analysis, resource mapping and drafting of business plans. Of the 9,200 odd co-operative milk societies in Tamil Nadu, as many as 2,484 were revived or formed newly in the last four years and almost one lakh farmers have benefitted from this Sustainable Milk Producers Co-operative Societies programme. The other societies that are either sick or defunct will also be revived with the support of the management students. Aavin has huge learning potential for students and the Department will explore possibilities of opening up for collaborations with educational institutions for the benefit of students, he added.
