'Gripping' crime drama with two huge stars available to stream on ITV now

ITVX has quietly announced the addition of another gripping detective drama to add to their collection on the popular streaming platform, featuring Stellan Skarsgård in the lead role.
River, a six-part series hailed as "gripping" by the broadcaster, is now available for free streaming on the platform and ready for immediate download.
The binge-worthy detective series centres around DC John Rivers, who leads investigations while mourning the loss of his close friend and colleague DS Jackie Stevenson "Stevie", portrayed by Nicola Walker.
As John delves into the evidence, he is confronted by some of the darkest truths surrounding Stevie's murder, leading him to question if he ever truly knew her.
Penned by Abi Morgan, known for her work on The Split and Eric, the narrative revolves around detective John River, reports Surrey Live.
He is a detective who finds himself living amongst the dead and dying victims and killers from the murder cases he's trying to solve but unable to escape.
The synopsis reads: "John River: a man whose vulnerabilities and eccentricities are brought to the fore as he grieves the loss of his dearest friend and colleague, DS Jackie Stevenson."
The teaser for the show hints at a profound journey of grief for the lead character: "The stages of his grief mark River's growing bonds with those he has excluded from his heart and his mind, and when a murder suspect jumps to his death whilst being pursued by River, the pressure and scrutiny that surrounds him escalates fast."
It goes on to intrigue viewers with the twisty tale: "As the investigation into Stevie's murder begins to reveal her deepest secrets, River has to question everything he thought he knew about his one true friend. Their relationship might have survived her death, but can it survive the truth of who she really was in life?"
Heading the show is Stellen Skarsgård, known from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, flanked by an impressive cast including Nicola Walker from The Split and Unforgotten.
The cast is further embellished with Adeel Akhtar appearing as Detective Sergeant Ira King, Lesley Manville of The Crown fame taking on the role of Chief Inspector Chrissie Read, and Eddie Marsan playing a notorious killer.

Holywell: Owner shares vision for The Burnt Sausage bistro
Stephen (Stevie) Quinn and Lindsey Walton-Quinn, of Holywell, formerly ran the Bakehouse café in Greenfield Valley. And after taking a rest from the eatery trade, they have now picked up the keys for their latest endeavour; The Burnt Sausage, formerly Kassidy's, on Holywell High Street. Stevie, aged 54 and originally of Chester, said: "We're going to be doing nice, local, quirky food in there. "We will be able to seat 50 inside and will be open for private parties. "In terms of the name, it was between The Burnt Sausage and The Rusty Kettle - we thought Burnt Sausage stands out. "For anyone who orders the big breakfast, I'm going to do a little chipolata and make it quite toasty." He said: "Bands and artists I cooked for on tour included Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, U2 - I cooked for the bands, the entourage and the production team. "Lindsey's Canadian but we met in New York. She was a caterer too, but she also did logistics on the tours." The couple, supported by their ten-year-old twin girls Ezmay and Rowann, have plenty of work to do in the coming weeks with painting and cleaning. They hope to open the doors at The Burnt Sausage in the next three to four weeks. Witnesses spotted Kaleb at the scene on the A3400 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, where hydraulic fluid had spilled across the road, causing cars to skid due to the slippery surface. The incident occurred when the tank cap on the hedge cutter broke off. However, Kaleb, who was on his way to a bailing job, swiftly intervened to ease the situation. One witness, Paul Lowe, a 53-year-old swimming pool engineer from Abingdon, told The Sun: "I spotted him instantly and was a little bit starstruck as I'm a big fan of the show." "Kaleb was parked on the corner speaking with the driver and looked a bit worried. He probably had a lot of other jobs to get done and this only added to his hectic morning. The 53 year old went on to commend Kaleb for his quick thinking in preventing a serious accident by calling a colleague from his agricultural contracting business to help remove the machinery from the road. Thames Valley Police have yet to comment on the incident, but it is reported that they were contacted to ensure the safety of other road users. Attempts have been made to reach Kaleb's representatives for a statement. In a video posted on the event's official Instagram account, he said: ''I may be hobbling around because I've got a bit of a busted ankle, but it'll be fine. "In another Instagram Story, he shared: "Just got back from football and trying to haul my [butt] to shut the chickens up... look at that ankle."
