Aussie Olympic gold medallist Cam McEvoy announces birth of baby boy - and reveals the shocking inspiration for his son's name

Aussie Olympic gold medallist Cam McEvoy has announced the birth of his son - and revealed his name is a tribute to his wife overcoming a serious health problem during her pregnancy.
Hartley James McEvoy was born on July 10, with the baby's name a nod to his mother Maddi, who has endured heart problems her entire life.
Born with a pulmonary valve defect, she has previously had four open-heart surgeries, including getting a replacement pulmonary valve when she was 17.
The recent arrival of Hartley came with a birthing plan, with the aim to keep Maddi's heart rate down.
Hartley - like many babies - didn't follow the script, but still arrived safely.
'Mum and baby are both doing exceptionally well,' the winner of the 50m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Games confirmed on Instagram.
Born with a pulmonary valve defect, Maddi (pictured with Hartley) has had four open-heart surgeries, including a replacement pulmonary valve when she was 17
McEvoy, 31, is a great example of sporting perseverance at the elite level.
Before his epic triumph last year in the Paris La Défense Arena, the Gold Coast born star failed to medal at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics in Rio and Tokyo respectively.
After studying physics and mathematics at Griffith University, McEvoy dramatically altering his training regime under the watchful eye of new coach Tim Lane.
Less time was spent in the pool, with McEvoy largely based in the gym, placing focus on high intensity strength and mobility work.
It was a bold strategy in the eyes of many, but the man affectionately known as the 'The Professor' had the last laugh, finishing with a gold medal around his neck.
McEvoy will look to defend his 50m freestyle Olympic title at the LA Games in 2028 - and hasn't ruled out Brisbane four years later.
'It's on the radar. A lot can happen between now and then, but if I'm motivated enough and I'm in good health, I see no reason why I won't give it a crack,' he said.
In February, McEvoy stunned many of his friends in swimming circles by dropping the news he had secretly married Maddi.
In a low-key affair, the couple shared the happy news with a single photo of their wedding day on social media with the caption 'eloped', accompanied by a wedding ring emoji.
The exciting development shocked several swimming legends, who rushed to send messages of congratulations.
Love you guys,' posted Ariarne Titmus at the time, while Lani Pallister commented: 'OMG this is so beautiful'.

'What's the point?' - Scheffler's daily golfing wrestle

Scottie Scheffler may have won three majors and an Olympic gold medal in his career but the 29-year-old started his Open Championship week by questioning why he even plays the American won this year's US PGA Championship to add to his two Masters titles and victory at the 2024 Paris has been world number one for 112 consecutive weeks and has earned more than £65m in prize money on the PGA Tour but these are not figures that Scheffler wishes to dwell on."This is not a fulfilling life," he said."It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart."There are a lot of people that make it to what they thought was going to fulfil them in life, and you get there, you get to number one in the world, and they're like, 'what's the point?'"I really do believe that because, what is the point? Why do I want to win this tournament so bad? That's something that I wrestle with on a daily basis." His wife Meredith gave birth to their son Bennett 14 months ago and Scheffler said if golf started to impact his family he would quit the sport."I'm blessed to be able play golf, but if my golf ever started affecting my home life or it ever affected the relationship I have with my wife or my son, that's going to be the last day that I play out here for a living," he added."This is not the be-all and end-all. This is not the most important thing in my life. That's why I wrestle with, why is this so important to me?"Because I'd much rather be a great father than I would be a great golfer. That's what's more important to me."Scheffler has won three times this year, has one runner-up finish and eight other top-10s in 15 has not finished outside the top 25 this season, not missed a cut since the FedEx St Jude Classic in August 2022."Showing up at the Masters every year it's like, 'Why do I want to win this golf tournament so badly? Why do I want to win The Open Championship so badly?'" he said."I don't know because if I win it's going to be awesome for two minutes, then we're going to get to the next week and it's, 'hey, you won two majors this year; how important is it for you to win the FedEx Cup play-offs?'"It feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for like a few minutes. It only lasts a few minutes, that kind of euphoric feeling."

BREAKING NEWS Wrexham star rushed to hospital in Sydney after suffering worrying injury as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's men slide to defeat

A Wrexham midfielder was rushed to a local hospital in Australia after the Championship side's second match on their pre-season tour. The Dragons, who finished second in League One last season to earn promotion, were beaten 2-1 by A-League side Sydney FC on Tuesday morning. Wrexham opened the scoring when Corey Holman turned James McClean's wicked delivery into his own net, but his blushes were spared by Alexandar Popovic and James Lacey, who turned the game around for the home side. If the result was not bad enough for the Hollywood-owned club, key midfielder Ollie Rathbone was forced off through injury just before half-time. The 28-year-old landed awkwardly on his left ankle and could be seen on the floor in major discomfort, before managing to hobble off the pitch, aided by medical staff. And now Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed that Rathbone has been taken to hospital in order to undergo an X-ray to assess the extent of the damage. Rathbone was a key part of Parkinson's squad as they secured promotion last season, featuring a total of 41 times in League One. While he is known for his ability to break up play in the middle of the park, due to his remarkable work rate, the midfielder also pitched in at the top of the pitch, scoring eight goals and providing two assists last term. Wrexham will start their Championship season on the road at Southampton in just over three weeks' time, and Parkinson will have his fingers crossed that Rathbone has not done any significant damage that will rule him out of that fixture. The Welsh side will now travel to New Zealand for the final match of their pre-season tour, where they will face Wellington Phoenix at the Sky Stadium.
