Drake Capitalizes On 'NOKIA' Popularity With New Music Video
From the day of its release, listeners have been speculating about the visuals; specifically, when they would arrive and what they might look like. The 38-year-old rapper has specialized in turning his popular records into not just regular music videos but almost short films, such as 2019's 'No Guidance' with Chris Brown, 2022's 'Spin Bout U,' or 2023's 'You Broke My Heart.' So, expectations were high even before he mentioned that the 'NOKIA' video had been shot on IMAX. This time around, Drake did something a little different.
The grayscale music video did focus heavily on women, but not in the party or roller rink manner that fans had predicted. Instead, there was elaborate choreography, with even Drizzy showing off a two-step. A woman walked through a miniature figurine version of Toronto, a welder sported a Chrome Hearts mask, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made a cameo appearance and flexed with his Converse SHAI 001 signature sneaker, all while the five-time Grammy winner seemingly set up parties via his classic Nokia cellphone. There are, notably, no skits or cheeky elements though.

Drake's timing for the 'NOKIA' music video couldn't be any better. The record hit its peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 this week at No. 7, making it the second highest-charting song from $ome $exy $ongs 4 U; 'Gimme A Hug,' the highest-charting song from the album, debuted at No. 6 on the long-running chart.
Meanwhile, the 21-song project has maintained a constant presence in the Billboard 200 since its release on Valentine's Day. It debuted at No. 1 with 246,000 album-equivalent units in its first week and has remained in a tight race with Kendrick Lamar's November 2024 album GNX. $$$4U marked PARTYNEXTDOOR's first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and his largest first-week sales performance in his career.
The album featured Yebba, Chino Pacas, and Pimmie, who got a solo performance on 'Pimmie's Dilemma.' Drake has already alluded to another solo album being on the way, though no date has been announced yet. With 'NOKIA' as a reminder that neither a rap beef loss nor a constantly-slandered defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group has stopped his ability to make a hit, it will be interesting to see how his next solo effort performs.

Drake pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at Birmingham concert
Drake honoured "cultural touchstone" Ozzy Osbourne during his concert in Birmingham, England this week. On Tuesday evening, a representative for the Osbourne family announced that the Black Sabbath frontman had passed away at the age of 76. Following the sad news, Drake chose to pay tribute to the rock music icon by walking out to the 1970 song Iron Man for his Some Special Shows 4 U concert held at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Wednesday night - Ozzy's hometown. "Hey Birmingham! Rest in peace to the legendary Ozzy Osbourne," he began, according to fan footage. Earlier in the day, the Canadian rapper visited the Black Sabbath Bench on Broad Street, where fans had left flowers and notes in memory of Ozzy. While speaking to a reporter for The New York Times, Drake poured a little tequila on the ground next to the bench in homage of The Osbournes star. "I just came out to pay respects to someone who lived it to the fullest," he told the publication, before describing Ozzy as a "cultural touchstone". Drake also shared a montage of black-and-white photos via Instagram which showed him visiting the tribute bench and chatting with fans. He initially captioned the footage, "Drank with the NY Times last night for Ozzy," but later deleted the message and simply added a dove emoji. Ozzy performed his final Black Sabbath show at Villa Park in Birmingham just two weeks ago. Drummer Bill Ward, guitarist Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler joined the heavy metal pioneer on the revolving stage. Drake is currently co-headlining the Some Special Shows 4 U tour with fellow musician PartyNextDoor. The next gig is set to take place in Manchester on Friday night.

Drake at Manchester Co-Op Live start and finish times
Drake is set to perform in Manchester for four nights as part of his $OME $PECIAL $HOWS World Tour. It comes after the Hotline Bling hitmaker headlined UK festival Wireless for three days on July 11, 12 and 13 at Finsbury Park, before kicking off his UK tour dates in Birmingham. Drake's $OME $PECIAL $HOWS got underway on Sunday, July 20, at the Utilita Arena, with a second date in the Midlands city on Monday (July 21.) Drake's upcoming Manchester gigs come as part of his $OME $PECIAL $HOWS 4 European tour, which marks his first time performing in the UK for six years - since his 2019 Assassination Vacation Tour. Following his UK run of shows, the God's Plan rapper will then continue his tour in Europe with visits to Antwerp, Zurich, Cologne, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Munich, before finishing in Hamburg on September 22 and 23. R&B-soul artist PARTYNEXTDOOR will support Drake at all of his UK gigs during his $OME $PECIAL $HOWS 4 tour. When she teased this infectious track on TikTok a few weeks back, I impatiently waited until it hit streaming platforms so I could blast it from my home speakers. It's such a funny, witty—and hot!—song that reminds me of when "traditional" country music felt a lot more light and free. — Bianca Betancourt, culture editor 'Afterlife' by Alex GProducer, singer, and songwriter Alex G released Headlights, his first album in three years, earlier this month, and I've had its lead single, 'Afterlife,' on repeat ever since. Warm and introspective, it bounces between nostalgia, transcendence, and new beginnings, revisiting some of Giannascoli's personal childhood memories through clipped lyrical vignettes along the way.
