Eric Idle says he feels ‘lucky every single day' after surviving cancer
Idle, 82, revealed in 2022 that he had received an early diagnosis and been successfully treated for the illness.
In a Letter To My Younger Self for the Big Issue, the Monty Python star said: 'I miss a lot of people. Great people like Mike Nichols.
'I will find myself thinking of a funny line and thinking, you must tell Mike that. Or Jonathan Miller. So many of my heroes have gone, like Robin Williams. I still kind of occasionally speak to Billy Connolly, but I really miss him.
'You've got to find other people, you know, because there are still other funny people you can have dinner with or play guitar with.
'I got lucky, because I had to, I survived pancreatic cancer. So I feel that since 2019 I've had a reprieve. So I don't know or care what people say about me, I'm lucky every single day.'
Idle also reflected on some of the issues financing Monty Python's Life Of Brian, which saw the film's creators receive help from Beatles star George Harrison.
He said: 'For a while we had no money. (Media impresario) Lew Grade read it and just went nuts. He said, we can't possibly make this. I went to America to find money.
'I had been talking to George Harrison who was a huge fan, and he said, 'I'll phone you in the morning, don't worry'. And I thought, well, nobody's got four and a half million dollars.
'But finally, when everybody turned us down, there was a call from him saying, 'I've got you the money'.
'He had mortgaged his house and his business and raised the cash and put it all on a Python film. The most extraordinary thing to do.'
Idle, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam and Sir Michael Palin fronted the ground-breaking sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus.
A huge hit, 45 episodes were made between 1969 and 1974, as well as five films including 1975's The Holy Grail, on which hit musical Spamalot – written by Idle – is based.

Woman builds cosy garden 'sanctuary' using a £300 IKEA purchase and sprucing up old furniture
A savvy woman has revealed how she used a £300 purchase from IKEA to create a cosy 'garden room' without splashing out thousands. Sarah, from England, who often posts home and lifestyle inspiration on her TikTok @hearts_at_claremont, shared how she gave her patio the ultimate summer glow-up with a pergola from the flatpack furniture store. She also spruced up old furniture and decor to instantly transform the space into a 'sanctuary.' 'We loved our garden room in our old house, and I really wanted to create something similar in our new garden,' she told the clip, which has racked up nearly 250,000 views. 'So, with a pergola from IKEA and some help from my lovely dad, I was able to transform this space quickly and easily.' Sarah went onto say the lightweight frame was 'easy to put together', however she struggled putting the canopy on. 'What I thought would be a five-minute job actually took a lot longer, but since we had mastered it, it was really easy to open and close,' she added. The influencer also explained how her dad drilled the frame down into the paving and put some brackets on to make it more stable in the wind. 'After giving the garden furniture a fresh lick of paint, I then added some established plants,' she continued. The content creator included a gorgeous climbing Jasmine and some other smaller flora to 'soften the look of the pergola'. 'I added rugs, soft furnishings, cushions, and candles and no space is ever complete for me until I have added some fairy lights,' Sarah said. 'I'm so happy with how this project has turned out. Our comfy, cosy little summer sanctuary.' In the comments, she revealed her old garden furniture was from Argos but added the The Cotswold Company have something similar. Jenna Weir from Scotland decided to transform her lifeless new build plot, achieving a brand-new look with DIY and bargain finds from B&M and Poundland. Now, four years on from getting the keys to the property, her garden boasts a 'Scandi chic retreat' complete with stylish decking, swinging chair and sofa area. Jenna had been quoted between £7,000 and £15,000 to transform her garden, but by doing the work herself she managed to complete the work for just over £1,000. Speaking to Gardeners World, Jenna said: 'A lot of my garden decor finds are from B&M and Home Bargains including the fence and decking paint which was from B&M. 'Our glass solar fence lights were a find from Poundland and our beautiful U-shape garden set was from a business local to me called Modish Furnishings who regularly do sales.' Describing the process of renovation, she added: 'When me and my husband moved into our new build property, the soil in our garden wasn't very good and the ground quickly became filled with weeds, so it needed a lot of TLC before we even started laying out grass. 'As we didn't have the finances at the time to start our garden properly, we opted to lay grass all over so we had a place to sit. 'We kept the original slabs the builder had laid for going in and out the back door and erected a 6ft fence for privacy to replace the 3ft one the builder had originally put in. 'After having the grass for nearly a year, we then started our decking transformation. 'The decking was erected at the top of the grass with a white stone border. We then began painting the fences with a stunning Cuprinol natural stone, as well as fitting a 'green wall' for more privacy in this area. 'During the renovation, we discovered we had a dead patch which ran along the side of our patio doors so we replaced this with large white pebbles and topiary balls before finalising the rest of the garden furniture and decor– and I still love the way it turned out!'

Chelsea stars are joined by WAGs in post Club World Cup final celebrations in New York - after Blues stunned PSG to end 11-month campaign in style
Chelsea stars were lauded by their partners after their stunning 3-0 victory over PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup final, as their arduous season drew to a close in fine fashion. Cole Palmer struck twice and Joao Pedro netted a third for the Blues at the MetLife Stadium in New York, as Enzo Marseca's side shocked the reigning European champions. After winning the expanded 32-team tournament, the Blues were presented with the trophy by US President Donald Trump. Chelsea players had looked bewildered as Trump remained on stage during their trophy celebrations, with Palmer appearing to say 'What's he doing?'. Following the ceremony, Chelsea stars were reunited with their friends and family on the pitch. The final completed a lengthy and successful season for the Premier League side, with Chelsea earning Champions League qualification as well as winning the lucrative Club World Cup and Conference League. The Blues first pre-season match had come nearly a year ago when they faced Wrexham on July 24 in the United States, with their first competitive fixture of 2025-26 held nearly 11 months ago against Man City. Chelsea winger Pedro Neto was embraced on the pitch following the victory by his girlfriend Carolina Cunha e Silva, with the pair pictured kissing while holding the trophy.
