MCE Participates in Alexandria International Book Fair
The Muslim Council of Elders is participating with a dedicated pavilion at the 20th edition of the Alexandria International Book Fair, which officially opened.
The event is jointly organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Egyptian General Book Organization, the Egyptian Publishers Association, and the Arab Publishers Association, with wide participation from cultural institutions and publishing houses from across the Arab world and beyond.
The fair was inaugurated by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in the presence of several prominent academic and diplomatic figures, including Dr. Mohamed Abdel Daim El-Gendy, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy. Both visited the pavilion of the Muslim Council of Elders and reviewed the Council's latest publications in the fields of interfaith dialogue, Islamic thought renewal, promotion of societal peace, and awareness-raising around the values of Islamic moderation.
Prof. Ahmed Zayed praised the Council's publications, describing them as a valuable addition to contemporary cultural and religious discourse. Dr. El-Gendy likewise commended the important role the Council plays in countering extremism and protecting young people from insular ideologies, applauding its commitment to enlightened thinking and the reinforcement of human fraternity values.
The participation of the Muslim Council of Elders reflects its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of dialogue and tolerance, and to contribute intellectually and morally to major cultural forums. This presence aligns with the Council's mission to advance shared human values and to empower scholars and thinkers in building more informed and cohesive societies.

The Medieval (But Make It MENA) Edit
The trend cycle is dead. Long live medieval fashion. Jul 12, 2025 Fashion is cyclical, but some things are just timeless. While the West looked to Tudors and corsets, the Arab world had already perfected the art of regal dressing centuries earlier. From Abbasid courts to Andalusian gardens, fashion wasn't ornamental, it was architectural. Kaftans with sweeping sleeves, golden embroidery as dense as scripture, leather flats molded for movement, musk oils that didn't just scent the body, but mingled with it, skin and scent indistinguishable. At the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, we've hit a snag in the fashion road. The trend wheel is imploding, taste fatigue is rampant, and the desire for something timeless and established is more prevalent than ever. People want the kind of clothing that speaks in undyed cotton, rich velvety hues, hand-stitched hems, and calligraphy-etched jewellery; something that feels human, in its design and execution. Bardcore is booming on YouTube, Chappell Roan is serving Joan of Arc in armour, and your algorithm is thirsting for knit bonnets and bloomer-style shorts. But this isn't some micro-trend debauchery wreaking havoc on your for-you page, it's medieval, and it's sticking around. Because if men's opinions are going medieval, why shouldn't fashion? In this edition of SceneStyled, we're going back to basics, the 11th-century-Fatimid-dynasty-kind of basics. Think: silk kaftans as statement outerwear, chainmail-inspired bags, gold filigree earrings, leather soles for modern ground, and perfume oil pens perfect for that medieval pouch of yours. Because time isn't real. But taste? Taste endures. Moroccan Touch | Jouri Kaftan This 100% silk velvet kaftan is the epitome of opulence. Rich in texture, deep in hue, and finished with a braided sfifa neckline, this is the perfect piece for wandering bare foot through your palatial garden. Azza Fahmy | Gold Blessings Chain Ring Azza Fahmy knows how to re-embellish history. In this 18kt gold ring, inscribed with 'مودة' (Endearment), 'رحمة' (Mercy), 'بركة' (Blessings), intricacy leads and handcraft take the spotlight. Azza Fahmy | Crescent Chandelier Earrings Crafted in Filigree wirework, these earrings incorporate centuries of symbolism in the swaying crescent moon and stars. Finished with an inscription with 'مودة', they encapsulate the simple intricacy of medieval jewellery. Shahira Lasheen | Ateeq Collection Long White Crepe Dress This sculpted black bustier and flowing slitted skirt cut a striking silhouette. Complete with hand-crafted buttons and intricate embroidery, it's a piece that speaks with a soft power, rooted in heritage and human artistry. Akaoui | Antique Finish Filigree Ring Intricate handcraft finds its proudest celebration in this Filigree ring. Made with traditional Italian craftsmanship, this piece is rooted in tradition and timelessness. Dôen | Ischia Dress Medieval dress gets an unwrapping in this Ischia dress. Lightweight and highly versatile, with a functional centre tie and an adjustable waist tie on a smocked bodice, this dress exudes the pragmatism medieval fashion is rooted in. Double-puffed sleeves, a scoop neckline, and ankle-grazing A-line skirt cultivate a fairytale-esque silhouette, or layer with a sweeping kaftan for the full medieval effect. Okhtein | Mini Dome Embossed Bag Every medieval muse needs her pouch, and this mini dome embossed bag from Okhtein is close enough. Maya Fragrances | Base Perfume Oil This base perfume oil from Maya Fragrances follows the same philosophy as its medieval perfume predecessors: less is more. Amber, musk, and sandalwood make up this intoxicating concoction, which works with your body chemistry and intertwines with your natural scent. In medieval times, even sweat smelt like luxury. Dima Ayad | Knitted Metallic V Neck A decadent take on the classic kaftan, this metallic kaftan from Dima Ayad appears like liquid gold in motion in the sunlight. Structured but also fluid, it's illusive and deceptive: the perfect piece for myth-making . Ettika | Gold Mesh Shoulder Bag Chainmail has always remained in fashion. While it shimmers down red carpets as translucent mini-dresses, this mesh shoulder bag offers a more utilitarian twist on medieval armour-core. It's one of the few pieces you could actually take into battle.

K-pop Star and Former NCT Member Taeil Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault
Yara Sameh Former NCT member Taeil, whose real name is Moon Tae-il, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison by a Seoul district court on Thursday for his role in the gang rape of an intoxicated Chinese tourist, The Korea Times reported. The 31-year-old singer was immediately taken into custody following the ruling, alongside two accomplices identified only as Lee and Hong, who received identical sentences. All three men were found guilty of rape. A district judge described the crime as 'extremely grave' but handed down just half the seven-year sentence requested by prosecutors, noting the defendants were first-time offenders, according to BBC News . The court also mandated each man complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programming. The assault occurred in June 2024 when Taeil and his accomplices met their victim at a bar in Seoul's Itaewon district. According to court proceedings, she became intoxicated after drinking with them before they brought her by taxi to Lee's home, where the three men sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. Under South Korean law, the offense is classified as both 'aggravated' rape due to multiple perpetrators and 'quasi rape' because the victim was unconscious and could not resist. All three defendants pleaded guilty to the charges in June. Taeil began his career in 2016 with NCT U, the inaugural unit of SM Entertainment's NCT project, before joining the popular subunit NCT 127. NCT launched as a K-pop group in January 2016, gaining recognition for experimental music across multiple genres and achieving international success with Billboard-charting releases. His career ended abruptly when he departed NCT in August 2024 as allegations surfaced, with the specific criminal details remaining undisclosed to the public at that time. SM Entertainment subsequently terminated his contract. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language
