MCE Participates in Alexandria International Book Fair
The Muslim Council of Elders is participating with a dedicated pavilion at the 20th edition of the Alexandria International Book Fair, which officially opened.
The event is jointly organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Egyptian General Book Organization, the Egyptian Publishers Association, and the Arab Publishers Association, with wide participation from cultural institutions and publishing houses from across the Arab world and beyond.
The fair was inaugurated by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in the presence of several prominent academic and diplomatic figures, including Dr. Mohamed Abdel Daim El-Gendy, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy. Both visited the pavilion of the Muslim Council of Elders and reviewed the Council's latest publications in the fields of interfaith dialogue, Islamic thought renewal, promotion of societal peace, and awareness-raising around the values of Islamic moderation.
Prof. Ahmed Zayed praised the Council's publications, describing them as a valuable addition to contemporary cultural and religious discourse. Dr. El-Gendy likewise commended the important role the Council plays in countering extremism and protecting young people from insular ideologies, applauding its commitment to enlightened thinking and the reinforcement of human fraternity values.
The participation of the Muslim Council of Elders reflects its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of dialogue and tolerance, and to contribute intellectually and morally to major cultural forums. This presence aligns with the Council's mission to advance shared human values and to empower scholars and thinkers in building more informed and cohesive societies.

K-pop Star and Former NCT Member Taeil Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault
Yara Sameh Former NCT member Taeil, whose real name is Moon Tae-il, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison by a Seoul district court on Thursday for his role in the gang rape of an intoxicated Chinese tourist, The Korea Times reported. The 31-year-old singer was immediately taken into custody following the ruling, alongside two accomplices identified only as Lee and Hong, who received identical sentences. All three men were found guilty of rape. A district judge described the crime as 'extremely grave' but handed down just half the seven-year sentence requested by prosecutors, noting the defendants were first-time offenders, according to BBC News . The court also mandated each man complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programming. The assault occurred in June 2024 when Taeil and his accomplices met their victim at a bar in Seoul's Itaewon district. According to court proceedings, she became intoxicated after drinking with them before they brought her by taxi to Lee's home, where the three men sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. Under South Korean law, the offense is classified as both 'aggravated' rape due to multiple perpetrators and 'quasi rape' because the victim was unconscious and could not resist. All three defendants pleaded guilty to the charges in June. Taeil began his career in 2016 with NCT U, the inaugural unit of SM Entertainment's NCT project, before joining the popular subunit NCT 127. NCT launched as a K-pop group in January 2016, gaining recognition for experimental music across multiple genres and achieving international success with Billboard-charting releases. His career ended abruptly when he departed NCT in August 2024 as allegations surfaced, with the specific criminal details remaining undisclosed to the public at that time. Bibliotheca Alexandrina Showcases Latest Publications at Its 20th Int'l Book Fair
Nada Mustafa- Basant Ahmed Bibliotheca Alexandrina is unveiling its latest publications at the 20th edition of its International Book Fair, held from July 7 to July 21, in collaboration with the General Egyptian Book Organization, and the Egyptian and Arab Publishers Unions. Among the newly released titles is "Archery and Equestrian Arts in the Mamluk Era" by Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel Aal, published by the Center for Islamic Civilization Studies at the Academic Research Sector of the Library. Another highlight is "Architectural Details of Alexandria – The Little Venice Building", by engineer Mohamed Gowhar. Issued by the Center for Alexandrian and Mediterranean Studies, the publication includes 30 artistic plates showcasing the intricate decorations of one of Alexandria's architectural gems. The Library also continues its unique series, "Heritage of Humanity for Youth and Adolescents", aimed at simplifying various fields of human knowledge for younger generations. New releases in this series include: Booklet 64: "Hassan Al-Attar (1766–1835): The Reformist Imam", by Ehab El-Mallah. Booklet 66: "Malak Hifni Nasif: Bāḥithat al-Bādiya (Desert Scholar)", by Abeer Ibrahim Qomra. Booklet 70: "Hassan Fathy: The Architect of Egyptian Identity – The Story of New Qurna Village", by Mohamed Shehata El-Omda. Other key releases include "The Debate of Religion and Enlightenment: Paths of Rationality and Horizons of Humanism", authored by Salah Salem. The Library will also feature its leading periodicals, including: "Memory of Egypt", focusing on national heritage and identity. "Marasid", a series on the sociology of religion. "Awrak", dedicated to future studies. "Abgadiyat", an annual peer-reviewed journal on scripts and writing systems. "Coptic Notebooks", centered on Coptic heritage. And theatrical novels under the National Project for Documenting Theatrical Heritage. This year's edition of the Alexandria International Book Fair includes participation from around 78 Egyptian and Arab publishers, including representatives from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Syria. A special children's section features over 16 publishers dedicated to children's literature. There is also a section for rare and antique books from 12 vendors of the iconic 'Sour El-Azbakeya'. The late Moroccan diplomat and intellectual Mohamed Benaissa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and a former member of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Board of Trustees, has been chosen as the "Personality of the Fair" for 2025. On the sidelines of the fair, a rich cultural program is planned, with over 215 events and approximately 800 speakers and lecturers.
