Police in Innisfil and Bradford handed out dozens of tickets to motorists during a traffic enforcement blitz targeting tinted windshields.
South Simcoe police held the campaign throughout the month of June and said officers conducted multiple traffic stops resulting in 50 tickets for windshield tinting offences.
"Unlawful windshield tinting not only violates the law but also endangers all road users. Drivers are reminded to know the law and ensure their vehicles comply with visibility standards," the police service stated.
The Highway Traffic Act prohibits windshield tinting, noting it reduces a driver's visibility, especially at night, therefore posing a serious safety risk. The offence for tinting or coating the front of a windshield on any vehicle is $110 after surcharges.
July Initiative
South Simcoe police say throughout this month officers will shift their focus to target muffler and exhaust-related offences.
'This initiative comes in response to numerous noise complaints and concerns about non compliant vehicles,' the service stated.
Police warn drivers will receive fines for vehicles without a muffler, or an improper muffler that emits excessive smoke or unreasonable noise.
