Elderly woman shot in her bedroom; Danville Police looking for tips
Police officers arrived at a house on Moore Street near Fairchild Street Monday evening around 9 p.m. after someone called 911 reporting shots being fired. Officers near the area said they heard around 20 gunshots.

Police found the victim, a 75-year-old woman, 'within seconds' upon arriving. She was getting ready for bed while she was shot in her bedroom, police said. Officers found several high-caliber ammunition casings on-scene.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she is listed as stable with non life-threatening injuries.

RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A jury deliberated for less than thirty minutes on Wednesday before delivering a guilty verdict to a 39-year-old Rantoul man accused of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said the jury trial took place July 29 and 30. The Rantoul Police Department began to investigate Joshua Nibbe in April of 2022 after the child's mother had reported that her child had been sexually abused by Nibbe. The child was 11 at the time of disclosure, but the abuse had been going on since the child was 10 years old. The State's Attorney's Office filed criminal charges on June 22, 2022. Nibbe was arrested on June 29, 2022 and has been in custody at the Champaign County Correctional Center since. Predatory criminal sexual assault is a class X felony and carries between 6 to 60 years in prison. Since Nibbe was found guilty on two counts, Rietz said he will serve his sentences one after the other, rather than at the same time. 3rd teen arrested in Champaign shooting that left a 14-year-old with ‘potentially life-threatening' injuries
CHAMPAIGN — A third teenager was arrested in connection to a Champaign shooting earlier this month that left a 14-year-old injured. Champaign Police responded to the area of Third Street and Beardsley Avenue around 5 p.m. on July 15 for a report of a shooting with injuries. Once on the scene, officers found a 14-year-old boy with multiple 'potentially life-threatening' gunshot wounds. PREVIOUSLY: Champaign shooting leaves one person with 'potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds' First responders provided medical aid until the victim could be brought to the hospital; he has since been released and continues to recover, police said. A 15-year-old and 16-year-old from Champaign were arrested on the night of the incident. On Thursday, July 31, police said a 17-year-old male from Champaign was arrested for his role in the incident. Because all three suspects are minors, the police department is unable to share their names. All three teenagers allegedly involved in the shooting are being held in the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center. Champaign County State's Attorney Julie Rietz said the 16-year-old and the 17-year-old teenagers are being tried as adults; they are both facing charges of aggravated battery with a firearm. The 16-year-old was detained following a detention hearing on July 18, 2025. He will appear in court again Aug. 18 for a preliminary hearing. The 17-year-old will appear in court on Friday for arraignment. The 15-year-old is also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. But, because of his age, he is charged in the juvenile court. The State's Attorneys Office has filed a petition to transfer his case to adult court, and the 15-year-old will appear in court for a status hearing on Aug. 1. Aggravated battery with a firearm is a Class X felony. Rietz said it is punishable by six to 30 years in prison. Police investigated after the shooting, and they learned that the victim was outside of an apartment complex when suspects approached and began to shoot. The victim was shot multiple times before the offenders fled. Police found evidence of gunfire, including multiple shell casings and damage to a building. Two guns were also recovered. Update at 5:30 p.m. The intersection of 6th Street and Oberlin Avenue has reopened, SPD Lieutenant Tim Jenkins told WCIA. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield intersection is currently shut down due to a crash Thursday afternoon. The crash involved two vehicles at the intersection of 6th Street and Oberlin Avenue. Springfield Police Lieutenant Tim Jenkins told WCIA that while there are conflicting witness statements, the crash appears to have been caused by a car that was driving north on 6th Street at a high rate of speed.
