New Delhi: Two women Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, police said on Thursday. The bodies of the killed Maoist cadres were identified as Seema, area committee member, Kutul, and Linge, alias Ranjhu, party member, Kutul local organisation squad. The two together carried a reward of ₹6 lakh, police said.Police recovered an INSAS rifle, a country-made .315 bore rifle and 15 rounds of .303 rifle ammunition. A large quantity of other explosive materials, Maoist literature and various daily-use items were also recovered, Bastar police said on Thursday. The joint operation was carried out by teams of District Reserve Guards, STF and ITBP based on Intelligence inputs regarding the presence of senior Maoist cadres of the Maad division.

Man wanted in Doon rape case arrested from Bihar
Dehradun: Uttarakhand police's special task force (STF) arrested a 22-year-old man wanted in a rape case registered at Dehradun's Premnagar police station last year, from Bihar's Saharsa on Thursday. Police said that the accused was carrying a reward of Rs 15,000 on his head. STF SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar said, "A police team was tracking accused Nitish Choudhary. After getting his location, the team travelled to Bihar and carried out a five-day pursuit. Officers had to travel on foot and cross rivers by boat before finally finding him on a small island. He was arrested, and during questioning, he confessed to the crime." Bhullar added that he is being brought to Dehradun on transit remand from Bihar. In another incident, a joint team of the Maharashtra crime branch and Uttarakhand STF arrested an alleged illegal arms supplier linked to international poaching gangs from Dehradun on Thursday. "The accused, Kamran Ahmed, 30, a resident of Delhi, had been living in Clement Town for the past few months. He was previously arrested by Delhi Police for possessing 2,000 cartridges," said SSP Bhullar. Following his arrest, police recovered three firearms, one hunting crossbow, and approximately 250 live cartridges.

U'khand STF arrests Raj man for Rs25L cyber fraud
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police's Special Task Force (STF) arrested a 22-year-old man from Rajasthan at Dehradun railway station on Wednesday night for allegedly duping a city resident of Rs 25 lakh. The case came to light after the victim filed a complaint against an unidentified person at the cyber crime police station in April. A case was registered under relevant BNS sections and the IT Act. During the investigation, police gathered evidence that led them to Salim Khan. DSP Ankush Mishra of the state cyber crime unit said, "Police tracked Khan, from Rajasthan's Tonk, from the railway station from where he was trying to flee the city. We found that he was operating several bank accounts during his stay in Vikasnagar area after taking IDs of unsuspecting residents." "Khan admitted to contacting the complainant via video call while impersonating a Delhi Crime Branch officer. He coerced the victim into performing objectionable acts on camera, recorded the call, and later used the footage to blackmail him, threatening to release it online. Out of fear, the victim transferred a total of Rs 25 lakh to Khan's bank accounts through multiple transactions." Police recovered one mobile phone, eight passbooks, four debit cards, and two SIM cards from Khan. The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime, if any.

Removing IEDs top priority of security forces in Saranda: IG
Ranchi: Improvised explosive devices (IED) have emerged as the biggest challenge to security forces involved in anti-Maoist operations in the forest areas of Saranda and other parts of West Singhbhum. With the toll and injuries caused by IED blasts rising, police have launched special operations to detect and seize the devices. Police said it seized 41 IEDs, 4,000kg explosives, 18,000 detonators, and 34 gelatine sticks from different parts of the district in the past three months in the special search operations. Among the seized materials is 3,811kg explosives, which were a part of the 5,000kg looted from Odisha's Sundargarh on May 27. IG (South Chhotanagpur) Manoj Kaushik said, "The recovery of IEDs has become the top priority of security forces in the district. The looted explosives in Sundargarh were prime materials which could have been converted into IEDs by merely inserting detonators. The existence of large cache of explosives with Maoists is a major threat to safety of police personnel." "IEDs slowed down our operations in the past few months. Civilians are also becoming targets," he said. CRPF sub-inspector Sunil Kumar Mandal and assistant sub-inspector Satyawan Kumar Singh were martyred while six personnel were injured in IED blasts triggered by Maoists in Saranda this year. Saranda forest and its adjoining areas remain the last Maoist bastion in the state. Key Maoist leaders, including politburo member Misir Besra and central committee member Anal are hiding in the area.
