Nearly half of Magic Kingdom's attractions shut down Monday night, reports say

USA Today11-02-2025
The same night that the Philadelphia Eagles were celebrating their Super Bowl win at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, nearly all the rides shut down at the park, according to reports by local outlets WKMG News 6 and WOFL.
There were some social media posts about the issue.
"My brother is at Disney World right now & everything just stopped," @MelissaElrod20 wrote in the post on X. "People are stuck in rides everywhere [and] all the lights inside the rides are on. He said it's pandemonium in the streets at the Magic Kingdom."
Hours before the park was set to close at 10 p.m. local time, the My Disney Experience app listed 18 out of the park's 40 attractions as "temporarily closed," reported local news outlet News 6. Guests use the My Disney Experience app to view the wait times of rides and the app also shows which rides are out of service.
"This is crazy," wrote a Reddit user in the Walt Disney World subreddit. "Several ride queues emptied out in front of me. [I] go to the next ride, and it's being emptied."

At 8 p.m. on Monday, only five rides were available to ride, according to News 6.
Attractions guests were able to ride included the following, according to the news outlet:
The Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square
Jungle Cruise in Adventureland
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover in Tomorrow Land
Tron Lightcycle / Run in Tomorrowland
As of Tuesday morning, at 8:45 a.m. ET, some of the rides that were listed as "temporarily unavailable" on Monday have wait times and seem to be available on the My Disney Experience app. Rides without wait times listed on the rides will not open until 9 a.m. ET.
USA TODAY has reached out to Walt Disney World for comment.
What caused the rides to shut down?
Although there were claims online that the shutdown was due to a power outage, what actually caused the park's attractions to be shut down remains unclear.
Rides shut down during Disney After Hours event
While the rides shut down before the park closed, Magic Kingdom was scheduled to host a "Disney After Hours" ticketed event, according to Walt Disney World's website.
The event allows guests who purchased a separate ticket, priced from $175 to $185 plus tax, to stay from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., after the park closes for regular ticket or annual pass holders.
However, by 10 p.m., the time the event was set to start, only three rides were shut down, reported WOFL.
On the list were the following:
Space Mountain in Tomorrowland
Tiana's Bayou Adventure in Frontierland
"It's a Small World" in Fantasyland
It is unclear if the event was affected by the ride closures.
Super Bowl winners "fly to Disney World"
On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles, the winners of the big game that happened the night before, also made the traditional visit to the Magic Kingdom.
In a video posted to Walt Disney World's Instagram, Jalen Hurts, the Eagle's quarterback, can be seen on a parade float with Mickey and Minnie Mouse driving down Main Street USA.
It is not known if the Philadelphia Eagles were affected by the ride shutdown.
Are rides still down?
As of Tuesday, at 8:45 a.m. ET, the only rides that were listed on the theme park app as unavailable were previously closed for refurbishment before Monday night's shutdown.
The rides "closed for refurbishment" are:
Astro Orbitor in Tomorrowland
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland
The Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square

Jalen Hurts channels his inner Michael Jordan with his training camp arrival

Jalen Hurts is the face of Jordan Brand and arrived at Eagles training camp channeling his inner Michael Jordan It's gotta be the shoe money! That's the famous line from director Spike Lee to Michael Jordan during the Legendary Air Jordan Nike commercial from 1991 starring Michael Jordan and Spike Lee (director of He Got Game and She's Gotta Have It) as Mars Blackmon. Fast forward 34+ years, and Lee could again ask the face of Jordan Brand the same question. There have been many discussions about Jalen Hurts' position in the NFL quarterback rankings. After playing in two of the last three Super Bowls and winning one in February, the Philadelphia star quarterback has dedicated his offseason and summer to learning from past champions like Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, and Derek Jeter, among others. The goal has always been to keep the "main thing, the main thing" while refocusing and adopting a championship mentality that'll allow the Eagles to repeat and be Super Bowl contenders for years to come. That journey to repeat started on Tuesday morning with Hurts and the Eagles arriving at the NovaCare Complex for the start of training camp. After spending time with Jordan, Hurts arrived in a similar look, decked out in Jordan Gear. Over the past three seasons, his 91.5 overall grade ranks fifth among all quarterbacks. Hurts is only the seventh NFL QB to appear in multiple Super Bowls and win a championship in their first five seasons. The other QBs who did so are Troy Aikman, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner, and Russell Wilson.

More than four years after his last game, Philip Rivers retires as a Charger

Often overlooked in an age of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson is a quarterback who joined the NFL in 2004 as a first-round pick and performed at a high level for 17 seasons. More than four years after his last game — a playoff loss in Buffalo with the Colts — Philip Rivers has officially retired, with the Chargers. While stats like this aren't regularly kept, it's got to be one of the longest gaps between a player's last game and his official retirement with one of his former teams. Still, it was a nice surprise on the Monday afternoon of training-camps-are-open week. Even if my first thought was that the algorithm had dug deeper into the past than it usually does. Rivers ranks sixth all-time in passing yards, with 63,440. More than Matt Ryan, Dan Marino, Eli Manning, Warren Moon, and (for now) Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford. Rivers is also sixth in passing touchdowns with 421. More than Ryan, Marino, Eli, Moon, Ben Roethlisberger, and (for now) Stafford. While not on the same level as the team's schedule-release videos, the segment posted on social media by the Chargers is worth your time. If only to remember his squeaky-voiced taunt to a Jaguars defender about a 'NINETY! YARD! TOUCHDOWN!' It's a shame he never played in a Super Bowl. And it's a shame he doesn't get the attention he should. Philip Rivers was a great player, and a great character, of the past 20 years in the NFL.

WSU Alum Erik Coleman opens up about new Kansas City Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew

This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to retired NFL safety Erik Coleman and acclaimed car customizer Will Castro about his new show, Unique Academy. Coleman opens up about the Kansas City Chiefs signing fellow Washington State Cougars alumnus Gardner Minshew. "This was a vision of mine and a dream of mine back in 2009 that I wanted to be able to do a school, a technical school for young kids, and give back," said Castro, "So now that we're able to do it, it just brings a lot of joy." Castro, known for his decades of work customizing cars for stars like LeBron James, DJ Khaled, and Super Bowl champion Victor Cruz, brings his signature blend of hustle, heart, and horsepower to this powerful new format, mentoring the next generation. At the start of the offseason, the Chiefs signed quarterback Gardner Minshew to be Patrick Mahomes's veteran backup. According to Coleman, a fellow Cougar alumnus, the former Washington State standout is a great addition. "He's a true pro, and I'm so proud of Gardner (Minshew) and what he's done in his career. he continues to add value to all the teams he plays for, and he's one of those guys," said Coleman, "Yes, he has his unique personality, but at the end of the day, he keeps football first. He's a guy who learns the game. He's a student of the game, and when called upon, he's ready, and that's what you have to do. You must stay ready, so you don't have to get ready, and Gardner does a great job of that. Whenever he's given those opportunities, he's taking full advantage of them. It makes the defense pay." Acclaimed car customizer and TV personality Will Castro is back with an inspiring new series, Unique Academy, streaming now exclusively on Roku.
