DTC building bus terminal on encroached land, says NGT
The Principal Bench of the NGT comprising Chairperson Prakash Shrivastava, Judicial Member Sudhir Agarwal and Expert Member A. Senthil Vel, said, in an order dated July 4, that the DTC has encroached the water body by constructing a bus terminal and a multi-storey commercial building on the land.
The District Magistrate (South West) informed the tribunal that 'no clearance had been given' for construction on the land. In an affidavit submitted to the NGT, the DM said, 'the said land is recorded as johar (water body) and at present a bus terminal constructed on it. The water body has been encroached upon by the DTC.'
The affidavit also mentioned that there was no record of any change of land use or no-objection certificate from the Forest Department, which is in violation of the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017. The NGT also noted that no reply has been filed by the Managing Director of the DTC and granted two-week extension to file replies.

Illegal sand mining in Bokaro continues despite NGT ban
Bokaro: Though the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a complete ban on sand mining during the monsoon (June 10 to Oct 15), illegal sand extraction continues unabated in Bokaro district, especially at Bhathua Ghat of the Damodar river under Harla police station. While the mining department appears proactive on paper, its field presence is virtually invisible where violations are rampant. Hundreds of tractors operate daily at Bhathua and Pindrajoda Ijri river ghats, extracting and transporting sand in broad daylight and even late at night. However, the mining department's focus appears limited to token action at other sites like Balidih, Sector 12, and Pindrajora, where one or two vehicles are seized weekly. In the past 27 days (June 10 to July 7), nine tractors were seized, and an FIR was filed against "unknown" individuals. Locals allege that while deputy commissioner of Bokaro, Ajay Nath Jha, continues to issue instructions and warnings, the mining department merely took harsh steps to curb the unlawful business of sands. Advocate Bhagwan Sahu, a resident of Bhathua village, said, "Sand is being mined from the Damodar river even at 2 am. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pamiętasz ją? Lepiej usiądź, zanim ją dzisiaj zobaczysz. Lawyers Favorite Undo The illegal sand-laden tractors ply on village roads till 7 am. Villagers are distressed, but no one acts. " In the July 3 district mining task force (DMFT) meeting, mining officer (DMO) Ravi Kumar Singh shared updates on coal seizures and penalties but avoided details on sand mining. According to the press note, 31 vehicles carrying coal, sand, and stones were seized, with 12 FIRs registered and fines totalling Rs 2.76 lakh collected in the past 25 days. Yet, the most critical issue, illegal sand mining, received low attention. There are three legal storage sites available for regulated sand purchase by Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation Limited (JSMDCL) in Khetko (Petarwar), Mahasha Enterprises in Gullibhitha (Chandankiyari), and Jai Mata Di Enterprises in Bondhidih (Jaridih). But as long as field enforcement remains lax, illegal sand mining and transportation continue to outpace legal supply, undermining both the environment and governance. Jha directed strict action against illegal coal mining following a fatal mine collapse in Ramgarh on July 5 that killed one person and trapped others. Highlighting the risks near 13 abandoned coal projects in Bokaro, he ordered circle officers and police to identify and act against illegal sites, arrest mafias, and seize equipment. Regular patrolling, public awareness campaigns, and fencing of closed mines were mandated. He stressed monthly progress reports and warned that illegal mining endangers lives, damages resources, and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Elaborate reporting norms likely under PMLA
The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is eyeing a fresh framework for reporting entities under the Prevention of Money Laundering (PML) Rules and will approach the Reserve Bank to enhance reporting requirements , people familiar with the development said. Changes could include enhanced user details, immediate alert for any change in 'know your customer' (KYC) for accounts red-flagged for suspicious transactions and a fresh set of 'alert indicators' for capital market, money exchanges and bulk property or gems and jewellery purchases. The move aims to make disclosures more robust in the fintech and cryptocurrency space to prevent suspicious transactions before it is too late to track. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Monatelang ausverkauft – Ohrenreiniger Nummer 1 endlich wieder verfügbar! We are discussing it with RBI and other regulators and will formally approach them with a framework for detailed discussions," a senior official told ET. Live Events In April, both FIU-IND and RBI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for better information exchange and effective implementation of requirements of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and Rules. While most of these reporting agencies send their reports to the FIU on quarterly basis with suspicious transaction reports, officials said that by the time the report reaches, money crosses several borders making it difficult to get the trail. "The idea is that when a big bulk transfer or purchase happens, it will immediately send an alert to the internal system so that FIU can be immediately alerted, which makes it easier to track the transaction. This will also help FIU to generate meaningful intelligence for law enforcement agencies like the income tax department, ED and CBI, the official said. FIU had introduced the 'alert indicators' in 2022 for the capital market, but it is felt that these need to be revamped in view of technological changes over time. "The idea is to track order spoofing, misutilisation of client funds by stock brokers and suspicious off-market transactions by brokers and users," the official added.

Maharashtra legislative council member Anil Parab alleges mangrove destruction and land filling in Andheri CRZ
Mumbai: About 350 acres of land near the coastal and mangrove areas of Lokhandwala Back Road in Andheri (West) is being illegally levelled by cutting mangroves and trees and filling the land and it is leading to severe environmental and biodiversity degradation, said Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab during a calling attention motion in the legislative council on Monday. Despite being within a 50-metre buffer zone from private properties, unauthorised filling was reported, violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Rules, 2011, and the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, said Parab. In her reply, environment and climate change minister Pankaja Munde said that an FIR was registered and a Rs 27 crore penalty imposed on those violating rules. Of the 350 acres, 70 acres were in the development zone, of which 35 acres were reserved for the National Law University, said the minister. The govt's negligence in addressing this issue highlights the urgent need for a thorough investigation, immediate removal of unauthorised filling, environmental impact assessment, and strict legal action under MPDA (Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, and Dangerous Persons Act). " Munde said that she will institute an inquiry committee. She informed the house that she will personally visit the site, along with the guardian minister and council members, to check the violations — especially whether mangroves are impacted. In that case, she will take stringent action. Parab, during his speech over the calling attention motion, said there were 2,500 vehicles spotted lately for the landfill. "My demand is that the land filling should be stopped and stringent action taken. Such a huge area has been encroached in the prime part of the city, and the state should take this seriously," he said. Deputy chairperson of the council Neelam Gorhe said that it was an important discussion on a serious issue. "The outcome should be time-bound. The minister should expedite the setting up of the inquiry panel and also visit the site at the earliest to verify the extent of violations," she said. Sachin Ahir of the Shiv Sena (UBT) said that such CRZ violations were seen in other parts of western suburbs as well.
