"I think in anticipation of him going past my record, I got something for him. But well, I mean, this is all in God's hands. But 754 runs, it's fantastic," he said on Sony Sports.
"The difference is that 754 came with the additional responsibility of being captain. I was the baby of the team. You know, it wouldn't have mattered if I had failed.
"Nobody would have given a hoot if I had failed. But to be the captain and score 750-plus runs—750-plus runs where he's making a difference to his side's fortunes.
Don't go by those 20 runs, but just see what that 754 has done for Indian cricket."
Following the day's play, Gavaskar presented Gill with a personalized shirt bearing his initials "SG" and a special autographed cap.
"I have got a gift for you in anticipation of you going past (me). At least you've got something to aim for in the next series. It is just a little gift. It is a shirt with SG initials; someone made it for me, and I am giving this to you, but I don't know if it will fit you.

This is a cap that I give to very few people with my signature. All the best," Gavaskar told Gill in a video shared on X by Sony Sports.
The match saw an impressive tactical display by Gill and Mohammed Siraj in the final moments of Day 3. They executed a clever strategy by setting up the field for a bouncer but instead delivered a yorker that dismissed Zak Crawley.
Gavaskar expressed his admiration for the tactical play and made a promise regarding the next day's play: "That last over was fantastic.
Sending a fielder over there but then bowling the yorker. Tomorrow I am going to wear my lucky jacket, which I wore in Australia—the white one during the Gabba Test—on the last day."

Ravindra Jadeja hyped for showing ‘more consistency' than Shubman Gill: ‘Is anything required to be said?'

Ravindra Jadeja rose to the occasion with the bat against England in the five-match Test series, making a strong statement about his place in India's Test side. With stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin stepping away from the format, Jadeja's performance underscored his readiness to shoulder greater responsibility in the new era of Indian red-ball cricket. Ravindra Jadeja scored 516 runs in five Tests against England.(PTI) Jadeja was the most experienced player in the Indian team during the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy, and he lived up to expectations by scoring 516 runs lower down the order. The left-handed batsman took the onus on himself and stitched crucial partnerships with lower-order batters to rescue India on numerous occasions. His century in Manchester was a clear reminder of the impact he brings to the side, showcasing his adaptability and importance regardless of pitch or playing conditions. Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja praised him for his batting efforts and even stated that he was more consistent than Shubman Gill, who scored 754 runs and was named India's Player of the Series. "Is anything required to be said? The man has shown you what he can do. I think outstanding. Shubman Gill has scored 754 runs, and you are saying that he has reached close to the best. He (Ravindra Jadeja) has scored nearly 550 runs," Ajay said on Sony Sports. "He has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill. He had four innings that didn't end, because the batting ended from the other end. In the entire series, there were only two innings where he got out early," he added. Jadeja also became the first-ever batsman to register six 50-plus scores in a single Test series in England while batting at number six or lower, breaking a 59-year-old record previously held by Sir Garfield Sobers. 'It started with Lord's…': Jadeja Ajay pointed out the Indian all-rounder's valiant efforts at the Lord's, too, where he scored an unbeaten 61 off 181 deliveries and fought hard for India. However, the visitors eventually ran out of partners and suffered a close defeat. "If we try to remember his moments, it started with Lord's, where you couldn't win for sure, but he and (Mohammed) Siraj fought there. A change was seen there. The fortitude started from there. Then he kept standing in the next match and drew the match. Then he scored runs in this match (last Test) as well," he observed.

SEASON 6 OF GRAPHIC INDIA'S HIT ANIMATED SHOW RANKS #6 ON ORMAX'S 50 STREAMING SHOWS LIST FROM JAN- JUN 2025

Mumbai, August 05, 2025: The Legend of Hanuman continues its extraordinary journey as one of the most beloved and successful animated series in Indian streaming history. The mythological epic, created by Sharad Devarajan and produced by Graphic India, has achieved yet another milestone ranking #6 across all platforms in Ormax's 50 Streaming Originals in India for January -June 2026. What makes this feat truly notable, is that The Legend of Hanuman S6 is the only animated series to feature in the entire list. Standing tall in the 10 the show shares space with Criminal Justice: A Family Matter, Paatal Lok S2, Squid Game S3, Panchayat S4 and ranking above titles like The Great Indian Kapil Show S3, The Royals, Black Warrant amongst high-profile live-action dramas and mainstream entertainment. The series also ranks as the #2 most-watched show on JioHotstar on the list, solidifying its place as one of the platform's performing titles of the year. Season 6 of the series, which debuted on April 11, 2025, has extended the franchise's legacy, emerging as a pan-India phenomenon with strong performance in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada. Since its debut, The Legend of Hanuman has consistently topped Ormax Media's most watched streaming originals charts (debuting at #1 in Ormax's weekly OTT rankings) and JioHotstar's weekly rankings for every one of its six seasons—making it the first animated series in India to achieve such a run. Season 5 reaching ~9.4 million viewers in its release window and Season 6 soaring to ~15.2 million over its first three weeks—clearly illustrating the series' escalating popularity. Sharad Devarajan, Co-Creator, Producer, and Showrunner of The Legend of Hanuman, shared, "To see The Legend of Hanuman Season 6 rank #6 across all streaming platforms and as the only animated series in the 50 is a profound moment for Indian animation. This milestone proves that audiences across India are embracing animation as a sophisticated storytelling medium, not just a kids' genre. When we first launched this series, our mission was to create a transcendent moment for Indian animation that would reshape how audiences perceive the medium—similar to how countries like Japan and Korea have always looked at animation as a medium and not a genre. The fact that Season 6 reached 15.2 million viewers and is standing alongside live-action giants like Criminal Justice, Panchayat and Paatal Lok, means that we've successfully moved animation from the margins to the mainstream. Hanuman's timeless story of courage, devotion, and inner strength continues to inspire billions, and through high-quality animation, we try to do justice to the visual grandeur and spiritual complexity that his mythic heroism deserves. This success belongs to the millions of fans who believed in our vision from day one and proves that India is ready for a golden age of animated storytelling.' Season 6 is once again directed by Jeevan J. Kang and Navin John. Daman Baggan is back as Hanuman in the vocal cast, and Sharad Kelkar provides his epic voice acting for Ravan. With its amazing graphics, moving soundtrack, and intensely emotional narrative, the show keeps pushing the limits of storytelling. What is the secret behind Shubman Gill's record-breaking run in England Test series? Gujarat Titans assistant coach explains

Shubman Gill had a poor record with the bat in England ahead of his maiden assignment as India Test captain. The 25-year-old, however, would thrive under the burden of captaincy in the five-Test series, breaking multiple records while amassing 754 runs and leading his side to a 2-2 series draw. read more Advertisement India captain Shubman Gill slammed four centuries while amassing 754 runs in the five-match Test series against England. Reuters Shubman Gill did not have the best of numbers in England ahead of his first assignment as India Test captain – the five-match series against Ben Stokes' side that concluded on Monday . Gill had scored 88 runs at an average under 15 in three Test appearances, leading to serious doubts over his ability to deliver with the bat under the added pressure of captaincy in the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Gill didn't just deliver as a batter against England while captaining India to a 2-2 draw – the second consecutive time a five-match series between these two teams concluded with this scoreline. He ended up smashing multiple records en route to finishing with a staggering 754 runs at an average of 75.40 , collecting four centuries along the way including a career-best 269 in the second Test at Edgbaston. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD What exactly was the key to his success with the bat, that too in a new role as he succeeded former captain Virat Kohli at the No 4 spot following the latter's Test retirement? GT assistant coach reveals Gill's preparation for England trip Naeem Amin, the London-based assistant coach of the Gujarat Titans franchise that Gill leads in the Indian Premier League, revealed that the 25-year-old had one eye on the crucial tour of England during the 18th IPL season that preceded it, going to the extent of practising with shiny new red balls in the nets. 'And the bit that you will find interesting was him keen to practice just against a new ball. As soon as the new ball would become a little bit old, he'd change it for another new ball,' Amin told The Indian Express. Amin also credited Gill's desire to learn from the best as a key factor behind his success, citing the example of him picking Kane Williamson's brain during the former New Zealand captain and batting icon's two-season stint with the franchise. 'His appetite always puts cricket first, and in that aspect, he is second to none. When Kane Williamson (former New Zealand captain and world's leading modern-day batsman) was in our team (GT), he was asking him about his thoughts all the time. 'How would you go about this or that? Why are you doing this drill? How does it benefit you?' Amin added. Thanks to the work he put in ahead of the tour, Gill ended up breaking a couple of Sunil Gavaskar's records – the most runs in a Test series by an Indian captain as well as the most runs in a match in the Test format. And it was his red-hot run during the series, combined with the heroics of other individuals such as senior pacer Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, that nearly helped India win a Test series on English soil for the first time in 18 years.
