The truth behind Eamonn Holmes being 'booed and heckled' at awards show
Further light has been shed on claims that Eamonn Holmes faced a 'chorus of boos' as he accepted a major accolade at an entertainment awards show.
Footage from the event shows the 65-year-old presenter appearing to be 'heckled' as he collected the best news award on behalf of GB News Breakfast at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) awards on Tuesday.
Using a wheelchair ramp to access the stage at London's Grosvenor House, the former This Morning host expressed gratitude to the production team and viewers.
However, just moments later he was seemingly jeered by members of the audience in what was reportedly a feisty environment.
However, despite the claims of Eamonn being 'booed and heckled' at the ceremony, a source who was present at the event told Metro that 'no one booed' and instead 'people applauded him'.
A source had previously told MailOnline: 'After it was announced that GB News Breakfast had won, there were a few boos around the room. Due to his wheelchair, Eamonn needed a ramp to get up on the stage.
'He gave a moving speech about the work of colleague Charlie Peters, who had earlier won news presenter for his work on exposing grooming gangs in Britain.
'It was a nice moment seeing Eamonn pay tribute to a fellow news presenter, but it seemed someone in the audience didn't agree.
'They heckled for Eamonn to 'get off,' and it was an awkward end to his speech.'
Applause and cheers could also be heard in the video that was recorded at the awards ceremony.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Eamonn sparked an investigation at GB News after a 'young female producer was hit by his wheelchair'.
The former This Morning presenter, who joined GB News in 2022, was first spotted using a wheelchair late last year.
It came after years of ill health, first starting with a double hip replacement in 2016, before he slipped three discs in his back in 2021. He then underwent a back surgery that went 'wrong' in 2023, which left him needing to use a wheelchair.
In The Mail on Sunday, it was reported that a young female producer was 'left bruised' after being hit by Eamonn's wheelchair, sparking an investigation at GB News.
Metro previously reached out to the TV presenter's representative for comment.
At the Tric Awards, GB News fended off the likes of BBC News At Six, ITV's Good Morning Britain and ITV Evening News to win the award for best news show.
Elsewhere on the night, GB News reporter Charlie beat former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, Fiona Bruce and Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid to win the award for best news presenter.
But it was not the only evening's upset, after Amazon Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm beat The Traitors for the best reality series award.
Jeremy Clarkson's series, which recently returned for a fourth season, came out on top over other popular reality shows, including BBC's The Traitors and ITV's I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Last month, Eamonn went viral after toppling off his chair during a live broadcast on GB News, which left him 'bruised, sore and embarrassed'. More Trending
Speaking straight after his fall, Eamonn said of the wheels on his chair: 'They're a bit slippy and slidey, and I've slipped and slid off mine there.
'Not the first guest to have done so; we've had a few. They have to remain nameless because they're well-known people, but they've hit the floor really badly, quite frightening.'
Despite Eamonn playing down the mishap, he did admit the accident had left him a bit shocked.
'The worst thing about this, of course, this was at a time when I was hospitalised two weeks ago for a very similar fall in the same area, back of the head, my neck, my shoulders,' he explained. 'So it all came back, as it were.'

BBC star details 'horrific' car accident and says 'I should have died'
She's bravely showing how her PTSD and mental health issues won't be stopping her take on a once in the lifetime challenge. A contestant on the upcoming BBC gameshow Destination X has opened up about a near-fatal car crash that changed her perspective on life. The show, which will be hosted by Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, is set to premiere next week with 13 contestants vying for a £100,000 prize. In what promises to be an epic adventure, reminiscent of The Traitors meets Race Across The World, the participants will traverse the continent without knowing their location or destination, deciphering truth from the clues, deceit, and lies presented to them. The diverse group includes an 11-time world record holder, a London cabbie who's conquered Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru and rowed the Atlantic without prior experience, a pilot, a nuclear engineer, and a content creator. Among the competitors is Claire, a retired detective sergeant from West Sussex, who's eager to "go missing for a while" in this unique challenge, reports Wales Online. he 51-year-old from West Sussex is already physically prepared for the game after training in the army and police, having worked with the latter for 26 years. She's also had some adventurous experiences, as an HGV one lorry driver travelling through France and the Alps. But it's not just her professional and adventurous pursuits that define her; Claire has also survived a harrowing ordeal. She disclosed the details of a dreadful car accident she was involved in, describing the scene as "carnage". This brush with death nearly cost her life and has since led her to adopt a new outlook on life. Claire opened up about her past, sharing: "I was in a horrific car accident seven years ago and should have died which was a life changing experience. It made me look at life completely differently. They had to shut the road for six hours, there were four ambulances, five fire engines and it was carnage. My car was in the middle and they didn't expect me to be alive. But there I was." Now gearing up for Destination X, Claire is keen to tackle the show's challenges head-on, despite grappling with mental health issues. She continued: "I'm most excited about getting stuck into the challenges. I have got PTSD and the reason I'm doing this show is to say to the world that even though you might have mental health issues, you can still do it. But equally, I know my limitations. I'm excited about pushing myself to the absolute limit but will say no if I need to." The 10-episode competition will see the players travel on a bus with sensory deprivation and no contact with the outside world, as they're tasked with attempting to figure out where they could possibly be after being offered a series of bizarre clues to help them. Only the smartest will be able to decipher the red herrings from the truth behind the hints, and the players are slowly whittled down to the winner (who scores a £100,000 prize) as they guess their locations, with the contestant furthest away from where they really are being eliminated from the game. "It's the adventure of a lifetime, with one simple question at its heart: where in the world am I? Rob Brydon masterminds the high-stakes competition where nothing is as it seems...," the synopsis teases.

I physically recoiled at acclaimed horror's most stomach-churning scene
Disturbing new film Bring Her Back contains one of the most intensely grotesque and terrifying scenes I've ever seen – one that made me physically recoil – but the movie is more than just harrowing thrills. This A24 supernatural horror has had UK fans patiently waiting nearly two months longer than our US and Australian counterparts to witness its grisliness, which reportedly left some fainting in cinemas. Not only are there several truly hideous scenes in the movie, built up to by its looming sense of foreboding, but it leaps straight in with grainy footage from a cult showing people being tortured and hanged. I've now warned you what kind of film it's going to be from the very beginning, but this second feature from Australian sibling filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me) goes beyond simply wince-inducing. It's also a poignant tale about the devastation of grief and boasts two-time Oscar-nominee Sally Hawkins as its stunningly effective secret weapon. Not that anyone would expect anything less than excellence from Hawkins at this stage, but she triumphs here as an exquisitely off-balance and creepy presence, elevating the distressing – if sometimes slightly thin – material. Bring Her Back opens with the trauma of step-siblings Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong) finding their father dead in the shower, which leads them to be placed in the care of eccentric former counsellor Laura (Hawkins). To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Laura is cheerful to an almost manic degree, welcoming the pair into her cluttered home up in the hills, where she's also fostering a young mute boy, Oliver (Jonah Wren Phillips). Immediately smitten with Piper, who reminds her of her late daughter Cathy (Mischa Heywood) – who was blind and tragically drowned in the home's swimming pool – Laura is surprisingly brusque with the troubled Oliver as well as Andy, who she immediately begins to undermine with unnerving behaviour. This is all managed with icky cheeriness from Hawkins as Laura, who expertly masks her character's subtly nefarious motives with Laura's kooky disposition and professional experience handling displaced kids. But she's not the scariest presence in the film: that honour belongs to Phillips' deeply troubled Oliver, who eats flies, bangs on windows – and much worse. It's him at the centre of Bring Her Back's most stomach-churning scenes, including the worst, which may well have you gagging or at least groaning in disgust and fright as the audience in my screening did. I won't spoil the exact nature of what it entails (unless you want to know, then click here), but suffice it to say it's good old-fashioned body horror and a classic fear realised that many have nightmares about – and that's without the genuinely distressing cracking and splintering sound effects that accompany the blood onscreen. I'll never forget it. The movie's sound design by Emma Bortignon is particularly impressive, thunderous in parts and quietly foreboding in others, constantly ratcheting up the unease. It also pairs well with Cornel Wilczek's score – sometimes jangling and disorienting – to emphasise the audio overwhelm someone with compromised vision like Piper can experience. Director: Danny and Michael Philippou Writer: Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman Cast: Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, Mischa Heywood Age rating: 18 Runtime: 1hr 44 Release date: July 26, 2025 Bring Her Back's performances all around are knock-out, from Hawkins and Phillips providing the fear factor to Barratt and newcomer Wong giving the film its heart. But although it pushes further into depraved places than I expected and enjoys a fair amount of impact from that alone, the beats of the story can be a little slow and overly simplified; this goes as far as the film's title itself. As can be the case with horror movies, the revelations end up paling a little in comparison with the thrills of the journey to get there. You can guess what's behind the locked door of the shed, and the basis of the film's set-up is a little rushed and unsubstantiated, which left me feeling slightly deflated. More Trending Despite this, Bring Her Back's rawness – in more ways than one – is something seared into my memory, thanks to its twisted and extreme horror and powerful performances. Bring Her Back is in UK cinemas from today. This article was first published on July 21. Got a story?
