Chamber choir to mark 50 years of music with special concert

A chamber choir will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special concert. The St John Singers (SJS) has been providing a wide variety of music to the community and supporting local charities for half a century. The group was founded by John Powell as an extension of the St John the Baptist, Bishopstone's church choir. Since then, it has expanded its scope, offering regular concerts of both church and popular choral music in Salisbury, across the UK and abroad. Sidcup school to host concert celebrating 15 years of nurturing young talent

A school is set to host an anniversary concert to celebrate 15 years of nurturing young musical talent. Hurstmere School in Sidcup will host the concert on Tuesday, July 8, to celebrate both past and present musicians from StudioFix, the school's student record label. The event will put a spotlight on the success of various bands, solo artists, and the school's award-winning choir, Harmony Army. StudioFix has seen its students evolve into performers at major UK venues like the Royal Albert Hall, and even winners on national competition platforms. Notable alumni include Zach Loizou, Tom Monks, Robert Taylor, Jamie Moreland, and The Gas Tanks, the latter having supported Madness after forming at Hurstmere. Andy Gilbert, StudioFix's music teacher and the programme's founder, said: "We want to ensure the next generation of musicians at Hurstmere have the same experiences moving forward." He added that all funds raised from the concert will be channelled back into the school's music department. Tickets for the event are available for purchase via Eventbrite, with early bookings recommended. The school said: "This is more than a concert — it's a celebration of 15 years of passion, creativity, and community spirit."
