New Delhi, Labour and industry must work in close coordination for the greater good of the nation's workforce and economy, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday. The Minister for Labour & Employment made the remarks while chairing a high-level meeting of state labour and industry ministers on the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme (ELI).The objective of the meeting was to deliberate on the implementation modalities and explore collaborative strategies for the effective rollout of the ELI Scheme, the ministry said in a statement."Labour and industry are two sides of the same coin...both must work in close coordination for the greater good of the nation's workforce and economy," he stated. He assured participants that procedural formalities under the scheme have been kept simple to ensure ease of access and encourage wide participation. The ELI scheme represents the second step after the PLI plan in the direction of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, the minister said, adding that the ELI scheme will provide financial support to employers, enabling them to generate additional employment, particularly for the youth.Mandaviya cited KLEMS data published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), highlighting that over 17 crore employment opportunities were generated during the last decade. This, he noted, is a reflection of the significant economic progress made by the country, particularly driven by robust growth in sectors like construction, manufacturing, and services. He emphasised that this momentum must be sustained and further accelerated through schemes like ELI, which are designed to create quality jobs, deepen formalisation, and support inclusive development.

Donald Trump says trade deal with India is ‘very close'
The United States is very close to a trade deal with India, President Donald Trump told Real America's Voice channel on Wednesday. Trump added that a trade deal could also be reached with the European Union. It is too soon to say whether an agreement can be reached with Canada, the US president said. Washington has set August 1 as the deadline to conclude trade negotiations. The US president had repeatedly said he intended to impose a reciprocal tax on several nations, citing high tariffs the countries impose on foreign goods. Trump's so-called reciprocal tariffs took effect on April 9. Hours later, however, he had reduced the rates on imports from most countries to 10% for about three months to provide time for trade negotiations. The tariff plans led to concerns of a broader trade war that could disrupt the global economy and trigger a recession. Trump had said on June 27 that New Delhi could sign a 'very big' trade deal with Washington soon. On July 2, the White House said that the deal was close to being finalised and would be announced soon. An Indian team led by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had visited the US in May to negotiate the agreement. Following this, a team of negotiators from the United States was in India for a week in June. Goyal said on Monday that the talks were ' going on at a very fast pace

Indias EV charging infra grew 5 times in last 3 years, but still only 1 public charging station for every 235 EVs
New Delhi [India], July 17 (ANI): India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is growing rapidly, with the number of public EV charging stations registering a five-fold increase from FY22 to early FY25, according to a report by CareEdge Ratings. The report stated that public EV charging stations (EVPCS) have grown significantly from just 5,151 in CY22 to 11,903 in CY23, and further to 25,202 by the end of FY24, reaching 26,367 in early FY25. This marks a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 72 per cent over the three-year period from FY22 to FY25. It stated, "Charging infrastructure is scaling rapidly, with public EV stations growing over 5x from FY22 to early FY25." The report stated the rapid growth has been led by strong initiatives from the central and state governments. The Indian government has significantly stepped up efforts to boost public charging infrastructure across the country. Several state-level EV policies are also playing an important role by attracting both public and private investments into the sector. The report noted that this growth reflects the government's strong commitment to encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. Additionally, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for battery manufacturing, along with duty exemptions on key minerals, is expected to reduce India's import dependency by up to 20 per cent by FY27. This is likely to make EVs more affordable and help lower the overall cost of ownership. However, the report also pointed out a gap between the growth of EVs and the charging infrastructure. Currently, India has just one public charging station for every 235 electric vehicles on the road. It said, "With only 26,367 public EV charging stations available, India currently has around one charger for every 235 EVs on the road." This highlighted the need for continued and faster development of EV charging stations to keep pace with the increasing number of electric vehicles being sold in the country. Overall, while the EV charging network in India is expanding quickly, there is still a need for more balanced growth to fully support the transition to electric mobility. (ANI)
