Two dead, 7 hospitalised in Ranchi; diarrhoea suspected
'Two women of the village died, but it is yet to be ascertained whether the cause of their death was diarrhoea or comorbidity as they were elderly women,' Bundu BDO Savitri Kumari told PTI.

Ranchi, Jun 23 (PTI) Two persons died while seven others were admitted to a hospital with diarrhoea-like symptoms in a village in Jharkhand's Ranchi district, an official said on Monday.
Ranchi civil surgeon Prabhat Kumar visited the village on Monday.
'Seven persons were admitted to the Primary Health Centre in Tamar and their conditions are stable,' he said.
A team from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) will be sent to the village on Tuesday to ascertain whether it is a case of diarrhoea or food positioning, Kumar said.
A medical team with an ambulance was deployed in the village.

Telangana pharma blast: At least 13 dead, 34 injured; five-member panel, experts to probe incident
At least 13 people were killed in the Telangana pharma blast. (PTI Photo) At least 13 people died and 34 persons were injured on Monday in an explosion at the Sigachi Industries' pharma plant in Telangana's Sangareddy district. About 90 people were working in the plant when the blast took place, reportedly due to a suspected chemical reaction, which also triggered a fire, Health Minister Damodara Raja Narasimha told reporters. Later in the evening, a police official told PTI that another body was extricated from the debris, bringing the total number of deaths to 13. 'Eleven bodies were recovered from the blast site and two people died while undergoing treatment at a hospital,' the official said. The explosion was so powerful that some of the workers were thrown nearly 100 metres away, eyewitnesses said. The cause of the mishap would be known after examination by the technical experts, Narasimha, who visited the accident site along with state Labour Minister G Vivek Venkatswamy, told reporters. Venkatswamy said 12 of the 34 injured people were critical and put on ventilator support in the hospitals. The respiratory system of these victims is under stress due to the burn injuries, he said. The government is hopeful that the remaining 22 people will recover soon, he added. Expressing grief over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the incident. He wished an early recovery to the injured. In a post on 'X', he announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The company said it deeply mourns the loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Asserting that the unit was fully insured, the firm assured all possible support to those affected. Sigachi Industries also said production at its Hyderabad plant would be paused for around 90 days to restore affected equipment and structures. In addition to the human impact, the incident also caused damage to certain ancillary equipment and civil structures within the facility, it said in a regulatory filing. Y Nagi Reddy, Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, said it was suspected that the blast occurred in the drying unit of the plant. However, Inspector General of Police (Multizone) V Satyanarayana told reporters that it was a case of reactor explosion. 'Industrial experts are saying that during the drying process, or a handling process, the pressure could have built up, followed by the blasting of the material that led to the blasting of the entire building,' Reddy told reporters. He said efforts were also on to search and rescue those trapped in the collapsed three-story building. Satyanarayana said the impact of the blast was felt for about five km in the Pashamylaram area. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed anguish over the incident and directed officials to take all steps to save the trapped workers and provide them advanced medical care, an official release said. He said the explosion occurred between 9.28 am and 9.35 am. Delhi HC allows minor sexual assault survivor to terminate pregnancy
The Delhi High Court on Monday allowed a minor sexual assault survivor to terminate her 26-week pregnancy. Delhi high court issued order allowing minor sexual assault survivor's pregnancy termination.(PTI) Justice Manoj Jain, therefore, directed the medical superintendent of AIIMS to terminate the over 26 weeks pregnancy of the girl, observing she was subjected to two sexual assaults. The survivor, 16, and her mother moved court with their plea for abortion citing serious mental trauma. The court directed AIIMS and its team of doctors to perform the procedure on the survivor on July 1 under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act. It came on record that the medical board was not in favour of allowing the termination of pregnancy in view of the advanced gestational age requiring most likely a cesarean section procedure which could adversely affect the girl's future reproductive health. The medical board opined that the girl was otherwise physically fit. The girl and her mother, however, insisted on not continuing with the pregnancy. She moved the court after the doctors expressed their inability to proceed due to the statutory restrictions provided under the MTP Act, limiting such procedures to 20 weeks in ordinary cases and 24 weeks in certain categories such as rape survivors. According to the girl's lawyer, the minor was sexually assaulted by a man during Diwali in 2024 but she did not disclose the incident to anyone. The second incident took place in March when she was sexually assaulted by another person and the pregnancy was the result of this incident, the lawyer said. She learnt about the pregnancy only when she went to a doctor with her sister and when her family members got to know, she confided in them about the sexual assault, leading to the filing of the FIR. At the time of the FIR in June, the gestational age exceeded the prescribed 24-week limit. The police arrested the accused of the March sexual assault incident whereas the man who assaulted her last year is yet to be nabbed, the court was informed. The high court in its order recorded judgments, including that of the Supreme Court, in which pregnancy was allowed to be terminated in cases where gestational period exceeded 27 weeks and even of 33 weeks. "The situation in this case is unfortunate. The girl was subjected to sexual assault for the first time on Diwali but she did not divulge about this to anyone and she was again subjected to sexual assault in March by another person," the court said. The order continued, "It is not difficult for this court to comprehend and understand the grave mental injury inflicted upon the minor." The AIIMS doctors, as a result, were ordered to maintain a complete record of the procedure aside from preserving the fetus tissue, which could be required for DNA identification and investigation purposes. The court further directed the state authorities to bear all the expenses of the medical procedure, the girl's stay at the hospital and the expenditure of post-operative care. "If the child is born alive, the medical superintendent of AIIMS along with state authorities shall ensure that every assistance is offered to such child and intimation will be given to the Child Welfare Committee," the court said. Since the minor's mother wants to get the pregnancy terminated, she has no objection if the child is born alive and given up for adoption, the order added.
