RCB victory parade in doubt after Bengaluru traffic police advisory

Indian Express04-06-2025
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory parade after winning the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) has come under a cloud of doubt after the city traffic police's advisory earlier on Wednesday. The Bengaluru traffic police had earlier said that there will be no victory parade and that the team will be feliciated at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in a function that will be held from 5pm to 6pm. It has since emerged that the parade is still under consideration and that the government is likely to take the decision soon.
According to the media advisory that was issued by RCB, they are scheduled to visit Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Vidhana Soudha from 4pm to 5pm IST. It ahs to be noted that the chief minister later shared the same timing with the media while announcing that he will be felicitating the team.
The victory parade, according to RCB's advisory, was scheduled to begin around 5pm or whenever he meeeitng with Siddaramaiah ended. It was to take along the route from the Vidhana Soudha to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on an open top bus. The team said that they will then arrive at the stadium at 6pm IST where there will be a 'celebratory event with fans'.
However, the Bengaluru traffic police pushed out an advisory saying:
RCB's much-awaited maiden IPL title came at long last on Tuesday night when they beat the Punjab Kings by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Former captain and talisman Virat Kohli was front and centre in the celebrations, having been with the franchise since the first season in 2008 and faced repeated heartbreaks over the years as captain of the side for over a decade.

'They gave a chance to Karun Nair...': Father of snubbed India player in England series slams BCCI selectors

Karun Nair The fifth and final Test between India and England is underway. While players like Anshul Kamboj and Sai Sudharsan made their Test debuts during the series, and Karun Nair returned to the playing XI after a long gap, a few players have remained on the sidelines throughout, including Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Despite being part of multiple India squads since receiving his maiden call-up in 2022, he is still waiting for his Test debut, even as 15 others have debuted during that time. Abhimanyu Easwaran's father lashed out at the team management. His father, Ranganathan Easwaran, has expressed his frustration over the way his son has been treated by the team management. 'I'm not keeping a count of the number of days that Abhimanyu has been waiting for his Test debut. I am counting the years; it has been three years now. What is the job of a player? It is to score runs. He has done that. People said he didn't perform in two India A matches during the last tour of Australia and didn't get into the team, which is fair enough. But Karun Nair wasn't in the team during the period when Abhimanyu performed before the BGT. Karun wasn't picked for the Duleep Trophy or the Irani Trophy. Abhimanyu scored close to 864 runs if you consider the period from last year to the current year,' Abhimanyu's father Ranganathan Easwaran told TOI. 'Then how do they compare? I don't understand. They gave a chance to Karun Nair. Fair enough, he scored 800-plus runs. The selectors have put faith in him.' Ranganthan also said that his son looks depressed Ranganthan further said that his son looks depressed, 'My son looks a little depressed, but that is bound to happen. Some players jump the gun based on IPL performances which earn them a spot in the Test team. IPL performances should not be counted while selecting the team for the longest format. Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy should be the basis for Test selection,' he said. The 29-year-old, has played 103 first-class matches, scoring 7841 runs at an average of 48.70, Easwaran has smashed 27 centuries and 31 fifties.

Duleep Trophy: Shardul Thakur to lead star studded West Zone team

SHARDUL Thakur will lead the West Zone team for Duleep Trophy, the Zonal selection committee decided on Friday. In a star studded line-up which has Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the selection committee preferred Mumbai's bowling all-arounder Thakur to lead the side. The reason for not naming Iyer as skipper was that the selection committee felt that he might be picked for the Asia Cup team which is scheduled to play from September 9 onward. The Duleep Trophy is scheduled to kick start from August 28 in Bengaluru. Thakur has been playing a vital role in Mumbai's Ranji success for the last few years. He has been contributing both with bat and ball. Over the last two seasons, where Mumbai has been bailed out from runs from lower-order, Thakur has had a lead role to play alongside Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani. The two also join Thakur in the West Zone squad that also has place for pacer Tushar Deshpande. Earlier, Iyer had expressed his availability to play in the Duleep Trophy. Iyer has played 14 Tests for India and scored one century to go with five fifties, but he hasn't played the longest format internationally since February 2024 against England. He was, however, an integral part of the Indian team that lifted the 50-overs Champions Trophy title in Dubai earlier this year. More recently, under Iyer's captaincy, Punjab Kings entered the final of the Indian Premier League's 2025 season, where they lost to the Royal Challengers of Bengaluru in Ahmedabad. Iyer wasn't picked for the Indian Test tour to England that is currently underway, as the selectors decided to go with Karun Nair, who had prolific returns in domestic cricket more recently. The 2025–26 domestic season will begin with the Duleep Trophy (August 28, 2025) and conclude with the Senior Women's Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy (April 3, 2026). The Ranji Trophy season is set to begin from October 15, with Phase 1 going up until 19 November and Phase 2 of the season (Elite) extending from 22 January 2026 to 1 February. This season the Duleep Trophy returns to the zonal format. The squads are picked by the state selectors from respective zones. South Zone were the champions when the Duleep Trophy was held in the 2023-24 season. West Zone squad: Shardul Thakur (Capt), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aarya Desai, Harvik Desai (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Jaymeet Patel, Manan Hingrajia, Saurabh Nawale (wk), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Dharmendra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, Arzan Nagwaswala.
