'I thought I adopted a tiny cockapoo - but he just won't stop growing'
Laura McFarlane, 43, and Jamie Griffiths, 51, brought Bobby home from an animal rescue centre in November 2022 and were told by staff that he was a small cocker spaniel-poodle crossbreed.
But when he grew to four times his expected size, the couple from Pontypridd, South Wales, knew something was up.
'I don't regret adopting him, there's just more of him to love,' Laura said.
'He's my best friend. He's a lot of fun, he's extremely cheeky. He's extremely fun and he's got lots of doggy friends.'
When Bobby simply refused to stop growing, the couple carried out genetic testing that revealed he wasn't a cockapoo at all.
It turned out that Bobby was in fact a Bernedoodle – a mix between a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are bred for tasks like pulling carts because of their size and power often weighing up to 52kgs.
Bobby weighs 45kg and easily squirrels away three meals a day including full English breakfasts or even a Sunday roast on special occasions.
'He's always hungry anyway but we're quite strict with his food because he does have a sensitive stomach,' Laura revealed.
'We don't like leaving him at home on our days off because one of us is always working from home.
'We just take him everywhere. He's done everything – he's been on speed boats, been camping.
'He lives the life of Riley.'
Laura had some sound advice for people who want to avoid a situation like hers.
The longest and heaviest dog ever recorded is Aicama Zorba of La Susa, who was an Old English Mastiff owned by London resident Chris Eraclides.
He was verified by the Guinness World Records in September 1997 and measured 8 feet 3 inches (2.55 meters) from nose to tail and weighed 343 pounds (156 kilograms).
Typical male Mastiffs measure 30 inches or taller and female Mastiffs clock in around 27.5 inches or taller.
The average weight for an English Mastiff is 160-230 pounds for a male and 120-170 pounds for a female.

'I would always encourage adoption over going to a breeder and buying a puppy.
'That's the second dog we've had from a rescue. We had our first dog for 10 years and we've had Bob for three so I would [recommend adoption] because there's just so many dogs there.
'We can't live without a dog really. Bobby is no trouble to us.'

KATHERINE Ryan has revealed she's been hounded by bailiffs and treated like a tax dodger after council blunder saw her wrongly held responsible for £10,000 in unpaid bills. The comedian, 42, says she was footing the council tax bill for her tenants at a London flat she owns with husband Bobby ever since they rented it out in October 2023. 4 She paid the charge voluntarily - as a gesture of goodwill - to make things easier for her renters in the gothic church conversion in Crouch End. But she was shocked to then discover that Haringey Council believed she still lived there, classed the property as a second home, and hiked her council tax by 200%. When payments didn't match the inflated charge, they sent bailiffs to her house. Speaking on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything, Katherine said she sent them the tenancy agreement as proof that it wasn't her second home, and explained: "We pay the council tax because we want to make it seamless for everyone, but we don't live there.' 'I never got a reply. I emailed four times,' she added. 'I called and was on hold for 40 minutes - then they just sent me back to the switchboard.' Katherine, who is pregnant with her fourth child, was forced to take matters into her own hands last week and travelled to the council's Wood Green office herself. 'I finally spoke to a woman who said, 'Oh yeah, we didn't receive any of your letters.'' She was then told that, legally, landlords aren't responsible for council tax if the property is tenanted - unless it's classed as a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO). Because the tenancy agreement hadn't been logged, the council wrongly billed her and added the second-home premium. 'She goes, 'We can't go after you for council tax because you don't live there.' And I was like, 'Well, apparently you can - I've paid you ten grand and you've sent bailiffs to my house. Twice.'' Katherine was told she could apply for a refund but that the council would now send her tenants a backdated bill for the entire period. 'I was like, 'What!? You're going to send my tenants a bill for ten grand dating back two years?' She's like, 'Yep... Sometimes this causes problems - tell them not to freak out.'' She asked if the credit could be transferred but was told the tenants were 'just going to get a big bill.' 'Luckily, I'm in contact with the tenants,' she said. 'They trust me... But the bureaucracy! Pretty Little Baby singer Connie Francis dies aged 87 after illness
Legendary country and pop singer Connie Francis, known for her hit Pretty Little Baby, has died at the age of 87. Her death was confirmed on social media by her friend and copyright manager Ron Roberts. 'It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that i inform you of the passing of my dear friend Connie Francis last night,' he wrote on Facebook.
