You're a TV star, Harry: Potter series to debut in 2027
NEW YORK : Filming has begun on a Harry Potter TV series that will debut in 2027, bringing the Hollywood hit to the small screen for the first time.
Adapted from the wildly popular books, which have also yielded blockbuster films and stage shows, the latest outing for the boy who lived is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Britain, the studio said Monday.
While no exact release date has been confirmed, the show will be available on the HBO Max streaming platform.
The franchise sees the eponymous Potter plucked from non-magical obscurity and thrust into a wizarding world in which he and his close friends Ron and Hermione battle against the forces of darkness.
With the mega-selling books' author JK Rowling among its executive producers, the show is envisaged as 'a decade-long series' featuring a new cast from the films.
Potter will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton will star as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley.
Established stars will appear alongside them, with John Lithgow playing headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Rowling has faced accusations of transphobia in recent years for placing an emphasis on biological sex over gender identity in comments about trans women. She denies the accusation.

Astronomer chief executive officer Andy Byron was filmed embracing the company's chief human resources officer, Kristin Cabot, during a kiss cam segment at the band's Wednesday night show. The moment was broadcast live on the stadium's big screen and has since gone viral on social media. As the camera panned across couples in the crowd, it landed on Byron and Cabot, who appeared startled before quickly attempting to hide their faces. The pair were seen interlocking fingers, with Byron holding Cabot from behind as they stood together. Both are reportedly married with children. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin added to the spectacle by offering live commentary from the stage. "Oh, look at these two," said Martin, as Byron visibly ducked out of view. "Oh, what either they're having an affair or they're just very shy." Footage of the incident has gone viral, sparking online criticism over workplace conduct and professional ethics. Byron's wife reportedly removed his last name from her Facebook profile before deactivating her account in the wake of the viral incident. ‘Harry Potter' stars grounded: Emma Watson and Zoe Wanamaker banned from driving for speeding
LONDON, July 17 — Two stars of the Harry Potter films, including actress Emma Watson, were each banned from driving for six months Wednesday after being caught speeding in separate incidents. Watson, 35, who played Hermione Granger, the friend of boy wizard Potter in the hugely popular movie franchise, was banned for driving at 38 miles (61 km) an hour in a 30-mile zone in southeastern Banbury last July. Zoe Wanamaker, 76, who played Quidditch teacher Madame Hooch in Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, was banned for six months for her offence. She had been caught driving at 46 miles an hour in a 40-mile zone of the M4 motorway in southeastern Berkshire last August. The cases were dealt with separately by a lower magistrates court in the town of High Wycombe. Neither of the stars attended the hearings, at which they were each fined £1,044 (RM5,936). Watson, who was stopped while driving her blue Audi, has been studying at Oxford University. Her lawyer told the court that although she was a student 'she is in a position to pay the fine'. — AFP
