Uttarakhand: 9 workers missing from under-construction hotel after cloudburst hits Uttarkashi
Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [India], June 29 (ANI): As many as nine workers staying at an under-construction hotel site went missing after a cloudburst severely damaged the construction site at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand.
Speaking to ANI, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said, 'Due to a cloud burst in Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg of Uttarkashi district, a hotel under construction has suffered heavy damage. Eighty-nine workers staying at this under-construction hotel site are missing.'
He also informed that the Yamunotri Marg had also been affected by the heavy rainfall and debris.
The Uttarkashi administration, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the police, immediately launched a rescue and search operation. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and began efforts to trace the missing workers.
Vinod Kumar Suman, Secretary of Disaster Management for Uttarakhand, also confirmed the incident and said the government was closely monitoring the situation. Suman added that necessary instructions had been passed to ensure the safety of pilgrims and residents in the region.
Meanwhile, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours amid a heavy rain alert. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told ANI that the pilgrimage has been temporarily halted as a precaution.
'I have given instructions to the police and administration officials to stop the pilgrims in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag and Vikasnagar,' Pandey told.
The suspension follows the cloudburst at Silai Band and the ongoing heavy rainfall, disrupting travel.
Continuous rainfall on Saturday caused severe disruptions across Uttarakhand, including blockage of the National Highway near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani.
In a post on the social media platform X, Chamoli Police Uttarakhand stated, 'The Badrinath National Highway is blocked near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani. Work is underway to open the road.'
The National Highway near Nandprayag is a critical route for pilgrims travelling to Kedarnath, making the clearance of the road a priority.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has appealed to the public to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel on Saturday, due to the forecasted heavy rainfall in the state's hilly and some plain areas over the next 24 hours. (ANI)

The aircraft landed safely in Kolkata and is currently undergoing checks," said the Air India airline further said, "Our ground colleagues in Kolkata are providing all necessary support to passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen diversion. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly our passengers to Delhi at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers."

J-K: Joint mock landslide drill conducted in Udhampur ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 29 (ANI): In a preemptive effort to ensure safety during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2025, a joint mock landslide drill was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the JKSDRF (Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force) at Samroli, Toldi Nallah, on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday. The exercise aimed to assess emergency preparedness in case of landslides or natural disasters during the pilgrimage. The simulation involved rescuing stranded vehicles and providing immediate aid to injured pilgrims, with security and disaster response teams efficiently coordinating evacuation and medical assistance. During the drill, a mock victim was safely rescued by the joint teams, administered first aid, and transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance. The exercise demonstrated seamless coordination among agencies for rapid response in real emergencies. Deputy SP (Headquarters) Udhampur, Prehlad Kumar, emphasised that security forces are fully equipped to handle any challenges during the yatra and ensure pilgrims' safety. He stated that such drills enhance the readiness of disaster management and security personnel to address emergencies and protect devotees throughout the pilgrimage season. The exercise reaffirms the administration's commitment to a safe and smooth Amarnath Yatra 2025. Meanwhile, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Saturday, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start from July 1 to August 9, a release said. The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved. The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range Sarah Rizvi-, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police. SSP Udhampur gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district's security plan, including deployment of forces, convoy and traffic management, safety of camps and langar sites, emergency plans, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams. Addressing the meeting, the DGP emphasised to all the officers to maintain very close coordination, which he said is of utmost importance to ensure an incident-free Yatra. He directed that the zonal/sectoral officers must have the information regarding the availability and location of special teams like Drone Units, BD squad, Dog squad, QRTs etc. to ensure that services of these teams are utilised on a real-time basis in case of any emergency. Uttarakhand: Search on for 7 missing workers after Uttarkashi cloudburst
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 29 (ANI): Search and rescue operations are underway in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district after a cloudburst triggered a massive landslide near Barkot on Sunday, killing two workers and leaving seven others missing. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the disaster management department, and the local administration are continuing their search to trace the missing workers, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said. Addressing a press conference, CM Dhami said that 20 of the 29 people present at the site had been rescued safely. 'The bodies of two people have been recovered. Search operations are ongoing,' he said, adding that all district officials have been instructed to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season. According to officials, the incident occurred near the Silai Band area on the Barkot-Yamunotri road, after a landslide triggered by a cloudburst demolished an under-construction hotel. Officials said that two bodies have been recovered so far, while efforts to locate the remaining missing workers were ongoing. 'Bodies of two out of the nine workers have been recovered who went missing from an under-construction hotel, at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunatri road in Uttarkashi, after the cloud burst incident,' Uttarkashi District Magistrate's office stated in a statement. 'There have been landslides at two locations before Silai Band, and a washout of the road at one location,' the statement added. Meanwhile, due to the severe weather conditions, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours, officials said. CM Dhami stated that arrangements are being made for food, shelter, and accommodation for stranded pilgrims. 'As soon as the weather improves, travel will resume. Until then, all necessary support is being provided,' he added.
