2nd WODI: England cruise to 8-wicket victory to level series 1-1
In reply, England openers Jones and Tammy Beaumont (34 off 35 balls) added 54 for the opening stand before off-spinner Sneh Rana removed the latter who attempted a reverse sweep but was caught plumb in-front.
Once play started, it became a cakewalk as England's revised target was 115 in 24 overs and Kranti Gaud bowled a perfect nip-backer to breach Sciver-Brunt's defence. Finally it was Sophie Dunkley who hit a boundary off Kranti to finish the game in 21 overs.
Twenty overs were required to constitute a match and the Lord's ground-staff worked at an alarming speed to get the ground ready so that at least eight balls were bowled and England were ahead in terms of DLS par score.
The three-match series is now levelled 1-1 and the final game will be played at Durham on July 22.
Earlier, Mandhana played a fine hand of 42, but steady England bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, restricted India to 143 for eight after the match was reduced to 29 overs-a-side.
India lost opener Pratika Rawal in the second over, getting castled while trying to steer a fuller length delivery from pacer Em Arlott (2/26) to third man.
Mandhana (42) and Harleen Deol (16) added 40 runs for the second wicket as India appeared to have survived the early jolt.
But the dismissal of Deol, caught off her own bowling by Ecclestone (3/27), opened the floodgates. Mandhana, who was dropped on two by Lauren Bell off her own bowling, stayed firm at one end.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was deceived by a quick, straight one from Ecclestone to lose her timber. Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh also returned to the dugout in quick succession.
India lost four wickets for 26 runs at that juncture, and Mandhana's dismissal completed the rout.
The elegant left-hander pushed an otherwise expensive left-arm spinner Linsey Smith (2/28) to Charlie Dean inside the circle.
India were 98 for six at her fall, but Deepti Sharma (30 not out) and Arundhati Reddy (14), who came in for Amanjot Kaur, added 26 runs for the seventh wicket to take India forward a bit.
However, the dismissal of Reddy ended that promising stand and India's chances of a decent total. PTI UNG AT KHS PDS PDS

Rishabh Pant rushed to Manchester hospital for scans; Gautam Gambhir, Shubman Gill worried, but if he can stand...
India's worst nightmare may just have come true. Rishabh Pant, one of their in-form batters, could be ruled out of the ongoing fourth Test against England in Manchester, let alone the series. Pant was driven off the field in an ambulance after a yorker from Chris Woakes struck him flush on the right toe. Pant immediately started limping, but the extent of the injury became clear when the physios rushed to the ground and checked on him. As Pant took his foot out of the shoes, it had a small cut with blood pouring out. More concerningly, the part of the foot had a decent amount of swelling. Rishabh Pant was in immense pain, unable to stand(PTI) Every time the physio touched the bruised area, Pant screamed in agony. He could be seen constantly urging the physio to stop; such was the pain he was in. Pant could not even get back to his feet – he was helped by Akash Deep and one of the physios. Eventually, it required an ambulance to wheel him off the ground. This was the second time in two matches that Pant copped an injury. However, going by the expressions on Pant's face as he was being carried off, you knew this was a lot more serious than his nail chipping accident at Lord's. The latest from the Old Trafford cricket stadium is that Pant has been rushed to a nearby hospital for scans, and necessary measures will be taken as soon as the reports come in. Sai Sudharsan, who anchored India's innings with a maiden Test fifty, addressed the PC and delivered not great news. "Oh, he was in a lot of pain, and he's now at the hospital taking scans. We'll know about the update probably soon. If he's not coming back in this match, it's obviously a blow, but the other batters are also ready to do their part," he said, confirming it's not looking too bright for the India wicketkeeper. The mood inside the dressing room is tense as well. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill are worried – and rightly so – but amid all the gloom, there is some positive development. BCCI issues official statement on Rishabh Pant's injury "Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress," the BCCI said in an official statement. The team management believes that if Pant can stand, there is a good chance he will come and bat at some point. Swellings are never a good sign. Often, they indicate a fracture; even a hairline crack is enough to cause insurmountable pain and end Pant's tour. But if it's not, not all is lost. What happens to India's chances if this is it for Rishabh Pant? Still, in the worst-case scenario, if this indeed is the last we see of Pant in the series, it affects India's chances terribly. Already down 1-2 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Pant getting ruled out is no less than a body blow for India. With Pant out, India will technically resume their innings on 264/5, with just Washington Sundar as the last recognised batter to come. Remember, this isn't a concussion, so there's no way Dhruv Jurel can bat for him. Yes, he can keep wicket coming in as a substitute, but at the same time, substitutes can only field, not bat or bowl. Pant's injury is not what India needed. They are already dealing with multiple injuries, with Akash Deep ruled out due to a groin strain and Arshdeep Singh ailing a cut finger. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has already been ruled out of the series due to a knee injury. And adding Pant to this list only diminishes their chances of staging a come-from-behind victory. Pant is the second-highest run-scorer in the series (462) behind his captain Gill. He scored twin centuries in the series opener at Leeds, becoming the first and only Indian keeper to do so, and smashed a couple of half-centuries each at Edgbaston and Lord's. Even in Manchester, Pant came to bat when India had lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill in quick succession and put on a fifty-plus partnership with Sudharsan, playing out a tricky little period after tea. He was on 37 off 48 balls, having struck two fours and a six, before he attempted a reverse scoop, only to miss it as the ball hit his toe.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Out For Golden Duck In 2nd Youth Test, Video Goes Viral
Vaibhav Suryavanshi tried to play a big shot on the first ball of the second innings but failed to connect with the ball properly and got out for a golden duck. The India U-19 team had high hopes from 14-year-old left-handed opening batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Wednesday (July 23), but he failed to live up to the billing and got out for a first-ball duck in India's second innings of the ongoing second youth Test against England. In the match taking place at County Ground in Chelmsford, England declared their second innings at 324/5 and set a target of 355 runs for the Ayush Mhatre-led side to chase down and win the fixture. Indian team management expected Suryavanshi to give a flying start along with captain Mhatre, but on the first ball of the Indian innings, he lost his wicket against fast bowler Alex Green. Vaibhav tried to play a big shot but failed to connect with the ball properly, and after kissing an edge of his bat, the ball shattered his stumps. Vaibhav couldn't believe his luck and was left disappointed and heartbroken at the manner of his dismissal. The clip of Suryavanshi's wicket was shared by fans on X, and within no time it went viral on the internet. Golden Duck for Vaibhav Suryavanshi vs ENG U19 — Varun Giri (@Varungiri0) July 23, 2025 While Suryavanshi was a big flop on Wednesday, Mhatre kept India's chances alive by scoring 124 runs from just 80 balls with the help of 13 fours and six sixes. He completed his century in just 64 balls and added 100 runs for the second wicket with Vihaan Malhotra (27 runs from 40 balls) in 13.4 overs and 117 runs for the third wicket with Abhigyan Kundu (65 runs from 46 balls) in 12.5 overs. The century on Wednesday is Mhatre's second century in youth Tests. In the first innings of the first youth Test played at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham last week, Mhatre scored 102 runs from 115 balls. In the first innings of the ongoing match, he scored 80 runs from 90 balls with a strike rate of 88.89. Mhatre, who is 18 years old, scored a total of 206 runs in the second youth Test from just 170 balls, and his strike rate in the game was 121.17. The batting strike rate of 121.17 helped Mhatre equal former New Zealand captain and star batter Brendon McCullum's 24-year-old batting record. During the 2001 New Zealand-South Africa youth Test played in Lincoln from February 4 to 7, McCullum also scored more than 200 runs in the match with a strike rate of 100+. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
