2026 marks the first model year for a new generation of the Mazda CX-5, but the redesigned crossover's most noteworthy new offering is still in development. Unlike the current CX-5, which is available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants, the new car will launch with only the former; a 187-horsepower, 2.5-liter unit that carries over from the 2025. Extra oomph this time around will come in the form of a hybrid powertrain that we won't see for at least another year. Why?
Simply put, it's not ready yet.
'The Skyactiv Z with our in-house Mazda hybrid development? Well, quite frankly, the technology is still in development and our hope is really to develop a hybrid solution that reflects our driving DNA as much as possible,' said Stefan Meisterfeld, Mazda's North American Vice President for Strategic Planning, in an interview with The Drive .
Mazda sells the CX-5's sibling, the CX-50, with a Toyota-sourced hybrid system, which, while functional, falls flat in terms of driving engagement. Our reviewer called the powertrain 'so coarse, and so unenjoyable to use' that it actually bummed him out to drive it. He did get within 1 mpg of Mazda's claimed fuel economy figure, but at the end of the day, it felt 'like something Mazda is forced to make, rather than something it wants to make.'
This time, Mazda wants to imbue the system with the sort of sporting character that its buyers expect. The trick, of course, is not compromising its efficiency in the process.
'It should really be something that on the one hand is very efficient, but on the other hand it's also extremely fun to drive,' Meisterfeld added.
You'll just have to wait for it. The CX-5 is due to hit showrooms early next year as a 2026; the hybrid isn't due to land until the 2027 model year.
'We will launch with this SkyActiv-G engine and this is 90% of our customer base. I think that's an important reference here. So we are quite confident that this will be a great engine for the first year,' said Meisterfeld.
And what about a plugin?
'At the moment, we are only talking about Skyactiv G and the hybrid system, not a plug-in hybrid system yet,' he said.

YouTube Clarifies Changes to Monetization Rules Around Inauthentic Content

After announcing a change to its monetization guidelines to disincentivize the posting of duplicate content, YouTube has now been forced to explain the change in more detail, as creators speculate on the potential impacts of the update. As you may be aware, YouTube recently announced an update to its enforcement of 'mass-produced' content, with improved detection measures now coming into effect. As per YouTube: 'In order to monetize as part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube has always required creators to upload 'original' and 'authentic' content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube is updating our guidelines to better identify mass-produced and repetitious content. This update better reflects what 'inauthentic' content looks like today.' So, here, it seems to suggest that YouTube is looking to enforce AI-generated rip-offs, and emerging processes in replicating content, though YouTube specifically says that the type of content it's aiming to crack down on is: 'Channels that upload narrative stories with only superficial differences between them [and] channels that upload slideshows that all have the same narration.' So, as it sounds, repetitive content, replicating almost exactly other videos already posted to the app with no significant change. Seems pretty straightforward, and nothing major to worry about. Indeed, YouTube has further explained that this is a 'minor update' to its longstanding YPP policies, in order to help better identify when content is mass-produced or repetitive. Yet, even so, speculation about the potential impacts, and what exactly 'mass-produced' and 'repetitive' means in this context, is running rife among creator communities. In response, YouTube has now shared further detail on the exact nature of the update, and what types of content will and won't be impacted as a result. As explained by YouTube's Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie, the main change is that 'repetitious' content is being renamed 'inauthentic' content in order to clarify that the policy includes content that's mass-produced or repetitive. The change does not impact re-used content, so you can still post content from other platforms, or re-post videos on YouTube, and it will remain eligible for monetization. 'All of [this type of content] can continue to be monetized if you've added significant original commentary, modifications, or educational or entertainment value to the original video.' The change also doesn't specifically relate to AI-generated content: 'YouTube welcomes creators using AI tools to enhance storytelling, and channels that use AI in their content remain eligible for monetization. YouTube provides AI tools to creators, including autodubbing, Dreamscreen, and more. Channels still have to follow YouTube's monetization policies, and creators are required to disclose when their realistic content is altered or synthetic.' But again, AI-generated content is also not the specific focus of this update, though it is worth noting that YouTube has been cracking down on channels that post fake, AI-generated movie trailers of late. So there has seemingly been some action on IP-violating AI content, and YouTube hasn't provided a heap of detail on a change in policy on that front as yet. But this update isn't it, and YouTube's keen to reiterate that the impact of this change will be minor, and is only focused on combating those who re-post exact replicas of existing content. Should You Buy Amazon Stock Before July 31?

Amazon is caught in a tug-of-war between the growing demand for AI and macro and geopolitical factors. The accelerating adoption of AI and growth from the company's cloud and advertising businesses may be enough to offset weakness resulting from higher tariffs. Despite these challenges, Amazon has a long track record of growth and is selling at a discount to its historic valuation. 10 stocks we like better than Amazon › Second-quarter earnings season is about to hit the ground running, and to say investors will be sitting on the edge of their seats may be an understatement. One company that's caught in the underlying economic tug-of-war is Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). On the one hand, many of the products on the digital retailer's platform are sourced from around the world, so it's particularly vulnerable to the Trump administration's tariff agenda. On the other hand, the company's digital advertising business and its cloud segment -- Amazon Web Services (AWS) -- stand to gain from accelerating adoption of AI, which could be a significant catalyst for growth. The company faces a key hurdle when Amazon reports its second-quarter results, which are expected to be released on July 31. Given the competing economic forces at play, should investors buy Amazon stock ahead of this key financial report or wait until the results have been made public? Let's take a look to see what the evidence suggests. One of the biggest unknowns in the upcoming quarter is the impact of tariffs. Third-party merchants account for roughly 62% of unit sales, and many of those sellers source their goods from China. The U.S. announced a trade deal with China last month that set tariffs on Chinese goods at a minimum of 30%, though the levies on some products are higher. While this is down from the peak of 145%, the timing of the deal in early June suggests Amazon's second-quarter sales and profits will likely take a hit. However, the company expanded its Prime Day sale to four days, double the length of its member-only sale last year, which could boost sales. Unfortunately, the event began after the close of the second quarter, so the impact on any additional sales won't hit the financials until Q3. Results from the first quarter came in before the imposition of tariffs, and investors liked what they saw. Overall net sales increased 9% year over year to $155.7 billion, with 60% of its revenue coming from digital sales or third-party seller services. Investors will be watching closely to gauge the impact of tariffs on Amazon's biggest business. The news isn't all bad, as the breadth of Amazon's business will insulate the company somewhat from the trade war, starting with its cloud segment. AWS is the undisputed leader in cloud infrastructure services, controlling 32% of the market in the first quarter and growing 17% year over year, according to market analyst Canalys. It's also Amazon's biggest moneymaker, generating 19% of revenue and 63% of operating income. Growth has reignited over the past year or so, fueled by demand for AI. Last month, CEO Andy Jassy noted that Amazon had more than 1,000 generative AI services and applications in progress or built, with plans to develop many more, saying, "AI will be a substantial catalyst." This, in turn, could drive higher demand for AWS. Let's not forget Amazon's advertising, which has quickly become the company's fastest-growing business. Ad revenue grew 18% year over year in Q2, fueled by Amazon Prime and the company's live sports programming. Recent reports suggest marketers are moving millions in ad spending to Amazon's platform, according to advertising industry publication Adweek. Amazon's advertising business began as a way for the company to capitalize on the valuable digital real estate on its e-commerce platform, but has since expanded significantly. Earlier this year, advertising on Prime Video became standard, with users required to pay a $3 monthly fee to forego the ads. The company also gets ad revenue from Freevee, its other ad-supported streaming channel, and from Twitch, its live-streaming gaming platform. Amazon sought to expand its advantage, inking a groundbreaking deal with Roku to give advertisers "access to the largest authenticated CTV [connected TV] footprint in the U.S.," available exclusively through the Amazon Demand-Side Platform (DSP), which connects ad buyers with available advertising. Roku and Amazon reach combined reaches an estimated 80 million CTV households, which represents more than 80% of CTV households in the country, according to the press release. This could be a significant catalyst for ad growth going forward. I generally don't recommend making buying decisions based on arbitrary days on a calendar, but rather the totality of the circumstances and the opportunities that could fuel revenue and profit growth. Each of Amazon's major business segments is growing at a respectable clip, and the proliferation of AI could act as an ongoing catalyst. Wall Street is nearly unanimous in its bullish view of Amazon. Of the 70 analysts who have offered an opinion in July, 66 -- a whopping 94% -- rate the stock a buy or strong buy, and none recommend selling. Furthermore, the average price target of $242 suggests there's additional upside of 8% compared to Friday's closing price. However, just this week, analysts at Morgan Stanley lifted their price target on Amazon to $300, which represents 33% potential upside for investors. The analysts called Amazon a "top pick" and cited more manageable tariffs, cloud growth, and strength across its AI offerings as fueling the firm's bullish call. Amazon is the undisputed leader in e-commerce and cloud infrastructure services and a key player in digital advertising. Add to that the company's portfolio of AI offerings, and it's easy to see why Wall Street is so bullish on Amazon's future. On a final note, Amazon is currently selling for roughly 37 times trailing-12-month earnings. While that's a premium, it's well below the stock's three-year average multiple of 83, so from a historical standpoint, it's a bargain. I'd suggest that's a reasonable price to pay for a stock that gained 95% over the past three years, far exceeding the 61% gains of the S&P 500. For those reasons and more, Amazon stock is a buy. The most widely used platforms and services create a windfall of profits for the companies that own them, which can create a self-reinforcing cycle of investment and more growth. This is certainly true for Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) and Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX). These growth stocks have more than doubled since 2020. Here's why they are still excellent investments. Meta Platforms has benefited from a growing social media advertising market. Strong financial results have pushed the stock up 200% since 2020. But the company is making significant investments in artificial intelligence (AI) that could lead to more amazing returns for investors. The company has rolled out the Meta AI personal assistant on all its social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. It is powered by the company's Llama AI model, and it's becoming one of the most used personal assistants, with around 1 billion monthly active users. Meta is investing around $70 billion annually in technology, and it can afford it. The company generated $66 billion in net income on $170 billion of revenue over the last year. It has the money to buy graphics processing units (GPUs) for AI research, and now it's making a play to bring in the best talent. In just the last few months, management has reportedly hired top executives from OpenAI, Alphabet's Google, Anthropic, and Apple. This talent will form Meta Superintelligence Labs, which will work on Llama and other AI projects and products. CEO Mark Zuckerberg sees a future where AI personal agents are seamlessly integrated into wearables, including glasses (its Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses have already tripled sales over the past year). Wearables, including watches, could become the new iPhone in the next decade, and Meta Platforms is positioning itself to benefit. It has the money, talent, and more than 3.4 billion people using its services every day, yet the stock trades at a reasonable 28 times this year's earnings and 25 times 2026 estimates. This "Magnificent Seven" company is likely worth a lot more than that, and that could spell magnificent returns for investors who buy shares and patiently hold for a decade or more. Shares of Netflix have had an incredible run the past few years. Even if you had bought shares in 2020 and held through the market sell-off in 2022, you would be up 155%. And even at the current $1,276 share price, it's not too late to start an investment in the streaming leader. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Netflix's internal goal was to double revenue and triple operating income by 2030. In response to an analyst's question about that report on the first-quarter earnings call, management said this doesn't reflect official guidance from the company, but it does see substantial opportunities ahead. Netflix has more than 300 million paid households and more than 700 million viewers. It has a huge audience already, but the streamer's share of TV viewing hours is less than 10%. As co-CEO Greg Peters said, "We still have hundreds of millions of folks to sign up." Analysts expect revenue to grow at a compound annual rate of 11% through 2030, which seems reasonable -- and even lower than the figures reported by the Wall Street Journal. This would bring revenue to $65 billion, up from 2024's $39 billion. However, Netflix is also improving margins, which is fueling robust earnings growth. Earnings jumped 25% year over year in the first quarter, but analysts expect earnings per share to grow at an annualized rate of 20% through 2029 to reach $49.59, up from $19.83 in 2024. Netflix stock currently trades at 50 times this year's earnings estimate. That's expensive, but it has historically traded at a high price-to-earnings multiple, given its recurring revenue from subscriptions.
