Looking for Monday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:
Well, well, well. I see it's Monday again. The wheel of time keeps spinning. We're back to square one, and spring is finally making itself known here in the mountains. Soon, the crab apple trees in my front and back yards will blossom into stunning pink clouds.
If I could pick the seasons, in my own private world, I would have Blossom Season, Monsoon Season and High Autumn. Between High Autumn and Blossoms, I'd sneak in a couple weeks of snow, though it would always be snowing up on the mountain peaks and skiing would go year-round. The snowpack would provide constant runoff for rivers and streams and lakes, a riparian cornucopia ensuring only the mildest wildfires would ever come for our arboreal paradise. The pink and white blossoms of spring, the green of summer monsoons, the orange and yellow and red of fall, and the mountains always waiting in bridal white.
And a Wordle, of course. Let's solve today's!
The Hint: One of Watership Down's main rabbits.
The Clue: This Wordle contains a 10-point Scrabble letter.
Okay, spoilers below!

All the tea in CHINA couldn't get me a 3-guess game today, alas, even though I only had 54 words after my first guess. DEATH cut that down to just three, but I guessed HAREM, leaving me with just the Wordle remaining: HAZEL for the win!

I suppose I should be glad at today's results, but I only get 1 point for beating the Bot and none at all for guessing in four. The Bot loses 1 for guessing in five and another for losing to me, which brings us to an April tally of:
Erik: -4 points
Wordle Bot: 7 points

The word "hazel" comes from Old English "hæsel", which referred to both the hazel tree and its nuts. It ultimately derives from the Proto-Germanic *hasalaz, which in turn comes from the Proto-Indo-European root *koselos, meaning 'hazel tree.' Related words appear in Old High German (hasal), Old Norse (hesli), and Dutch (hazelaar). The word has also been used historically to describe the color of hazel nuts—usually a light brown or greenish-brown—especially when referring to eyes.

Today's Quordle Hints (and Answer) for Tuesday, August 5, 2025
If you're looking for the Quordle answer for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, read on—I'll share some clues, tips, and strategies, and finally the solution. Beware, there are spoilers below for August 5, Quordle #1289! Keep scrolling if you want some hints (and then the answer) to today's Quordle game. (If you play Wordle, Connections, or Strands, check out our hints for those games, too.) How to play Quordle Quordle lives on the Merriam-Webster website. A new puzzle goes live every day. If you've never played, it's a twist on The New York Times' daily Wordle game, in which you have a limited number of attempts to guess a five-letter mystery word. In Quordle, though, you're simultaneously solving four Wordle-style puzzles, and each of your guesses gets applied to the four puzzles simultaneously. Due to the increased difficulty, Quordle grants you nine guesses (12 if you play on 'Chill' mode, or eight if you play on 'Extreme'), rather than Wordle's six. To start, guess a five-letter word. The letters of the word in each of the four quadrants will turn green if they're correct, yellow if you have the right letter in the wrong place, or gray if the letter isn't in that secret word at all. Ready for the hints? Let's go! Can you give me a hint for today's Quordle? Upper left: To cook with intense heat Upper right: Slippery or stylish Lower left: To inspect and intensely scrutinize Lower right: A type of goat or club Does today's Quordle have any double or repeated letters? Upper left: No. Upper right: No. Lower left: No. Lower right: Yes, a double consonant. What letters do today's Quordle words start with? Upper left: R Upper right: S Lower left: A Lower right: B What letters do today's Quordle words end with? Upper left: T Upper right: K Lower left: T Lower right: Y What is the solution to today's Quordle? Upper left: ROAST Upper right: SLICK Lower left: AUDIT Lower right: BILLY How I solved today's Quordle SLATE and MOUND are my go-to starter words. Next, I'll try ROAST for the upper left. Nailed it. Let's try SLICK for the upper right. On a roll! The bottom left has to be AUDIT. Not sure about this last one. I'll try LIPPY. Getting closer. HILLY? One off. Hmm. GILLY, BILLY, or WILLY seem like the best options, but none seem like common words. Let's try WILLY, I guess. OK, BILLY? There it is. I wonder if that refers to a BILLY goat? The best starter words for Quordle What should you play for that first guess? We can look to Wordle for some general guidelines. The best starters tend to contain common letters, to increase the chances of getting yellow and green squares to guide your guessing. (And if you get all grays when guessing common letters, that's still excellent information to help you rule out possibilities.) There isn't a single 'best' starting word, but The New York Times's Wordle analysis bot has suggested starting with one of these: CRANE TRACE SLANT CRATE CARTE Meanwhile, an MIT analysis found that you'll eliminate the most possibilities in the first round by starting with one of these: SALET REAST TRACE CRATE SLATE Other good picks might be ARISE or ROUND. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO get more vowels in play, but you could argue that it's better to start with an emphasis on consonants, using a starter like RENTS or CLAMP. Choose your strategy, and see how it plays out. Solve the daily Crossword

Today's Wordle #1508 Hints And Answer For Tuesday, August 5th
Looking for Monday's Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here: How To Solve Today's Wordle It's hot out. I suppose that's normal for August, but sometimes it just wears me down. The evenings are lovely, though. Nothing like a perfect summer evening, the sun finally setting. The night air cool but not cold. It's perfect. Of course, we're here to solve a Wordle, not wax poetic about balmy summer nights. Let's solve it! Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer: Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Today's Wordle Hints And Answer Wordle Bot's Starting Word: SLATE My Starting Word Today: DRONE (19 words remaining) The Hint: Brings the babies. The Clue: This Wordle has far more consonants than vowels. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. DRONE was actually a fantastic opening guess today, leaving me with a yellow and green box and just 19 remaining words. At first, I thought STORY might be the Wordle. I was so close! Only two words remained and I debated between STORK and STORM. I was pretty sure we'd had STORM in the past, however, so I went with STORK and lucky for me, I was right! This Wordle made me think of the film Children Of Men, a fantastic movie that I just wrote about recently. The film is about a dystopian future where women are no longer able to have babies. There's a joke that Michael Caine's character, Jasper, tells. It goes like this: I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot. The Bot gets -1 for guessing in five (something we rarely see!) and -1 for losing to me. At last, I take the lead in August, making up for a disastrous start to the month. Erik: 0 points Wordle Bot: -1 points The word "stork" comes from Old English storc, which is of Germanic origin. It is related to Old High German storah and Middle Dutch storc. The word likely imitates the bird's call or is derived from a root meaning "stiff" or "rigid," possibly referring to the bird's stiff-legged stance. The ultimate origin is uncertain, but it is common across Germanic languages. Be sure to follow me for all your daily puzzle-solving guides, TV show and movie reviews and more here on this blog!
