13 years on, Ambedkar Bhavan remains incomplete in Mysuru; activists issue 15-day ultimatum to resume work, warns of indefinite protest
MYSURU: More than a decade after its foundation was laid, the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan on Dewan's Road in Mysuru remains incomplete. We are setting a 15-day deadline for the govt to resume the work and complete the project, Prabhudha Bharatha Bheem Sene President Siddaraju said on Monday.
If work does not resume within 15 days, the organisation will launch an indefinite protest in front of Ambedkar Bhavan, he told reporters.
Siddaraju called the delay a grave insult to national leader B.R. Ambedkar.
Despite Mysuru being home to prominent political leaders such as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and district social welfare minister H.C. Mahadevappa—both vocal proponents of Dr. Ambedkar's ideals—the continued inaction is unacceptable, he stated.
The Bhavan's construction began in 2012 with an estimated cost of Rs 4.66 crore. Over the years, that figure ballooned to Rs 20.66 crore, with 60% of the work reportedly completed.
The remaining tasks, which include parking facilities and interior development, are estimated to require an additional Rs 23 crore. Though the govt approved Rs 23.80 crore, which was also confirmed by Mahadevappa for the second phase, no tangible progress was made.
'If there are obstacles in executing the remaining work, the authorities must come forward and explain. But if they continue to remain silent and inactive, we will have no choice but to protest indefinitely,' warned Siddaraju.

Telangana Fire: Death Toll Rises To 34 In Sigachi Factory Blast, Rescue Underway
The death rose to 34 in a devastating explosion at Sigachi Industries Pvt Ltd, a chemical manufacturing unit located in Pashamylaram, Telangana, on Monday morning, according to ANI. The blast occurred around 9:30 am on Monday and triggered a large fire and caused the industrial structure to collapse, trapping multiple workers under the debris. Fire department officials confirmed that five bodies have been recovered from the rubble so far, while efforts continue to locate any survivors. Over a dozen workers were injured in an explosion at a chemical factory in the Pasamailaram Phase 1 area of Telangana's Sangareddy district, according to officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolence over the loss of lives in the explosion at the Sigachi Pharma chemical factory in Telangana's Sangareddy district. The PMO also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy offered full support to the State government in the relief operations following the blast at a chemical factory in Telangana's Sangareddy, which killed at least 34 people and injured many. "NDRF, Police and other agencies are engaged in relief financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs each will be given to families of the deceased persons and Rs 50,000 to the injured," Kishan Reddy told reporters here."The BJP never does politics on such issues. We will fully cooperate in relief state government should take all steps to prevent such accidents," Reddy said, ANI reported. Rescue operations are still underway.

Punjab minister alleges 'drugs reached every house' during SAD-BJP tenure
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 1 (ANI): Punjab Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond alleged that 'drugs reached every house' in Punjab during the ten years of the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance government. He further alleged that the Aam Admi Party (AAP)-led government in Punjab has 'proof' of their link with the drug smugglers. On action taken against Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a money laundering case linked to drugs, Sond told ANI a day earlier, 'Everyone knows in Punjab that before the formation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government in Punjab in 2007, no one had heard the name of heroin in the SAD-BJP government was in power in Punjab for 10 years, and during that tenure, drugs reached every house in the government has proof of their involvement with drug smugglers, and action is being taken accordingly'. Meanwhile, on Saturday, former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Siddharth Chattopadhyaya said that irrefutable evidence is present against Bikram Singh Majithia linking him to drug traffickers. Chattopadhyaya alleged that crucial evidence against Majithia has existed since 2012. 'These are young and new officers who have shown the courage to work. I had gone there to guide them that the evidence has been in the file since 2012. So, use it and present it before the court. This is irrefutable and on-record evidence, legally acceptable in court as evidence. But with his influence, he had suppressed it,' the former DGP told ANI. Majithia was sent to seven days of police custody by a Mohali court on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case linked to drugs. He will be produced before the court again on July 2. Earlier, the Public Prosecutor Advocate Ferry Sofat told ANI, 'Bikram Singh Majithia's income of Rs 540 crore remains undisclosed, and he could not mention any details about it.' He informed the court that there were large and unexplained cash deposits made by Saraya Industries, a company operated by Majithia's family since the 1950s. The court was also informed that Majithia had allegedly threatened the investigating officers during his arrest, and the incident was captured on video. (ANI)
