Minister Mahadevappa inspects Chamundi Temple preparations for Aashada month
Mysuru: In view of the heavy influx of devotees during the Hindu month of Aashada to Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop the Chamundi Hills, district minister HC Mahadevappa visited the religious site on Sunday to inspect the facilities arranged for devotees and tourists. After the first Friday during Aashada on June 27 saw over 1.5 lakh devotees visit the temple, the minister reviewed crowd management plans, transportation facilities, and security arrangements as the Aashada Friday celebrations will be held on July 4, 11, and 18. Besides, Chamundeshwari Vardhanti will be celebrated on July 17, which also attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees to the hill shrine. To streamline the darshan process, the authorities decided to open an additional ticket counter near the Nandi Statue on Aashada Fridays, as well as on the following Saturdays and Sundays. This move aims to reduce waiting time and improve accessibility for devotees. During the inspection, Mahadevappa stressed the importance of efficient inter-departmental coordination and robust security measures. He expressed satisfaction with the preparations and assured the public that the administration is fully committed to providing a safe and smooth darshan experience of goddess Chamundeshwari. The minister also interacted with devotees waiting in the free darshan queue after they arrived by city buses from Lalitha Mahal Grounds. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 안구건조 걱정 없이 안전하게! 강남아이원스안과 지금 신청하기 Undo MJ Roopa, secretary of the Shree Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority, said that over 1.25 lakh devotees visited the temple on the first Aashada Shukravara. She noted that some changes were implemented following the initial review meeting conducted by the deputy commissioner and the minister. "To ease congestion, we have introduced block-wise queue systems and appointed nodal officers to manage drinking water supply. Devotees will now be moved forward block by block, preventing overcrowding near the temple premises," she said. On the first Aashada Friday, 1,881 devotees availed the Rs 2,000 special darshan, and 3,416 devotees took the Rs 300 ticket. Zilla panchayat CEO S Ukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, and deputy commissioners of police M Mutturaj and KS Sundar Raj accompanied the minister during the inspection. Local traders at the Chamundi Hills submitted a memorandum requesting permission to open their shops on days other than Friday. As per current regulations, all commercial establishments are required to remain closed on Fridays due to the high volume of devotees. However, traders claimed they were also being forced to close on Saturdays and Sundays, significantly affecting their income during this crucial season. In the presence of local leaders Shambulinga and Sridhar Nayak, the traders said that their earnings during Aashada sustain them for the rest of the year. "Being shut for 12 days during this month would be unsustainable," they said. Acknowledging their concerns, Mahadevappa said, "While the safety and convenience of devotees remain the highest priority, we also recognise the livelihood needs of traders. The deputy commissioner will assess the situation and take appropriate action. A balanced approach is necessary, especially given the higher-than-expected turnout this year."

Mahadevappa dismisses Ashoka's CM change claims
Mysuru: Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa firmly dismissed opposition leader R Ashoka's claim that would not inaugurate this year's Dasara festivities. Ashoka is not the Congress high command—he is merely the leader of the opposition. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now What authority does he have over Congress matters, Mahadevappa questioned, even as he refuted any internal discussions or plans suggesting a change in leadership. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, the minister asserted that no such conversation took place. I didn't hear anything about a transfer of power. Siddaramaiah is the chief minister and will inaugurate Dasara. He will continue to be the CM, Mahadevappa, who is a close associate of Siddaramaiah, said. Emphasising the govt's stability, Mahadevappa added, "The Congress govt is stable and will complete its full five-year term. I say this with full confidence." Taking a jibe at the BJP, he remarked, "The BJP is in a state of anticipation—just watching, hoping the elephant (the Congress govt) will stumble. But the elephant will not fall. They'll keep waiting in vain." Responding to certain MLAs predicting a political 'revolution' within three months, the minister dismissed it as baseless speculation. "Ask them what they meant. Some may have spoken from a personal viewpoint, but it has nothing to do with the party or the govt." He said that while political changes are not unusual, the Congress govt in Karnataka remains strong and unaffected.

No confusion over CM's post in Cong.; Siddaramaiah will inaugurate Dasara, says Mahadevappa
Clarifying that there was no confusion over the Chief Minister post in Karnataka in the Congress, Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa on Sunday said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the Dasara festival this year. About the claim made by the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok that Mr. Siddaramaiah will not remain at the helm in the State by Dasara, Mr. Mahadevappa said Mr. Siddaramaiah will continue as the Chief Minister, and the Congress will complete its full five years in office. He hit out at Mr. Ashok saying that he was not the Congress High Command to predict a change of leadership in the Congress government in the State. He was only a leader of the Opposition in the BJP. About the reported statement by MLA for Ramanagara Iqbal Hussain that an agreement had been reached to make Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar as the Chief Minister in the coming months, Mr. Mahadevappa said he had no information about such an agreement and the report could be speculative. Regarding the BJP's statements on the change of Chief Minister, Mr. Mahadevappa said the condition of the BJP was like somebody waiting for a passing elephant to fall. 'The elephant will not fall, and the BJP will not stop waiting for the elephant to fall,' he said.

40% kharif sowing completed in Yadgir district
After three weeks of south-west monsoon and a good spell of rainfall before that, farmers, who had already prepared land in the district, have begun sowing. And, 40% sowing has been recorded till the start of this week. According to data provided by the Agriculture Department, Yadgir district has recorded 40.77% sowing. The department has set a target of 4,16,474 hectares for 2025-26 and of this, so far, 1,69,181 hectares, which is 40.77%., has been brought under cultivation. Farmers prefer green gram, red gram, cotton and paddy, which is widely covered in the irrigated area under the Upper Krishna Project network, more particularly in Hunsagi and some parts of Shahapur and Shorapur taluks, for the kharif season. Green gram has been sown in 11,587 hectares (76.58%) against the targeted area of 15,000 hectares. Red gram has been sown in 36,342 hectares (36.90%) and cotton has been taken up in 1,20,785 hectares (64.94%) against a targeted area of 1,85,999 hectares. Meanwhile, paddy is set to be taken up in 1,07,856 hectares with sowing yet to start. The taluk-wise sowing target and actual sowing in brackets are as follows: Shahapur 75,627 hectares (23,610 hectares), Wadagera 57,284 hectares (20,075 hectares), Shorapur 94,952 hectares (28,569 hectares), Hunsagi 66,134 hectares (19,682 hectares), Yadgir 69,505 hectares (42,979 hectares) and Gurmitkal 52,968 hectares (34,795 hectares). The highest sowing of 65.54% has been recorded in Gurmitkal taluk while the lowest of 30.03% is in Hunsagi taluk, which has a largely irrigated area where farmers choose paddy. 'Farmers can sow crops, except green gram, till the end of July. We hope that more than 90% of the area out of the target set will be covered in the rest of the period,' Joint Director of the Agriculture Department Ratendranath Sugur told The Hindu over phone. The district has experienced scattered rainfall since sowing started in this season. And, there has been a dry spell even as cloudy atmosphere prevails across the district. At present, crops, mainly green gram, which is considered a short-term cash crop, are almost 10-15 days old. So, farmers have started tilling to remove weeds between rows of crops to help them grow elegantly. 'Even if not immediately, crops will require rainwater in the next couple of days as the soil is slowly getting dry after tilling,' Mahadevappa, a farmer who was tilling in his green gram field, said. Many farmers have said that the district has received good rainfall, even above normal figures, before the onset of the monsoon itself. 'More importantly, crops will now give good yield if they get the required rainfall and fertilisers,' another farmer Basavaraj Patil has said.

13 years on, Ambedkar Bhavan remains incomplete in Mysuru; activists issue 15-day ultimatum to resume work, warns of indefinite protest
MYSURU: More than a decade after its foundation was laid, the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan on Dewan's Road in Mysuru remains incomplete. We are setting a 15-day deadline for the govt to resume the work and complete the project, Prabhudha Bharatha Bheem Sene President Siddaraju said on Monday. If work does not resume within 15 days, the organisation will launch an indefinite protest in front of Ambedkar Bhavan, he told reporters. Siddaraju called the delay a grave insult to national leader B.R. Ambedkar. Despite Mysuru being home to prominent political leaders such as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and district social welfare minister H.C. Mahadevappa—both vocal proponents of Dr. Ambedkar's ideals—the continued inaction is unacceptable, he stated. The Bhavan's construction began in 2012 with an estimated cost of Rs 4.66 crore. Over the years, that figure ballooned to Rs 20.66 crore, with 60% of the work reportedly completed. The remaining tasks, which include parking facilities and interior development, are estimated to require an additional Rs 23 crore. Though the govt approved Rs 23.80 crore, which was also confirmed by Mahadevappa for the second phase, no tangible progress was made. 'If there are obstacles in executing the remaining work, the authorities must come forward and explain. But if they continue to remain silent and inactive, we will have no choice but to protest indefinitely,' warned Siddaraju.
