Alex Eala made quick work of Lucia Bronzetti with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win as the Filipina netter was off to a flyer in the Round of 32 of the Eastbourne Open main draw on Monday night (Manila time) in the United Kingdom.
The 20-year-old tennis star made a statement right from the get-go, not dropping any game en route to a one-sided Set 1 victory.
But the older Bronzetti put together a gallant stand in Set 2, clinching a game point multiple times in an extended Game 6 before the Philippine bet seized her own break point and the win for a huge 5-1 lead.
Bronzetti had a 30-15 start in Game 7 before forcing a deuce, but Eala made sure to finish it off by going for a slow attack.
With the win, world no. 74 Eala is through to the Round of 16 against either home bet Sonay Kartal of UK or third-seeded Jelena Ostapenko, whom Eala defeated during the Miami Open Round of 32.
?Eala previously had to go through a pair of games in the qualifying round, outlasting Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey and Hailey Baptiste of the United States to book a main draw ticket.

Alex Eala falters vs Maya Joint in Eastbourne Open finals
Tennis - Eastbourne Open - June 28, 2025 Philippines' Alexandra Eala reacts during her women's singles final against Australia's Maya Joint Action Images via Reuters/Paul Childs Alex Eala put on a gallant stand but lost steam to bow to Maya Joint of Australia, 4-6, 6-1, 6(10)-7 in their 2025 Eastbourne Open finals showdown on Saturday in the United Kingdom. The 19-year-old Joint thus denied the Filipina tennis star her first-ever WTA Tour crown while also winning her second pro title following her Morocco open clay court victory just last May. The 19-year old Joint flexed her muscle right away after taking an early 3-0 lead in Set 1 before she swept the Philippine bet in Game 7 to take a commanding 5-2 cushion. Eala then staged a brave fightback by winning the next two games, but her attack error late in Game 10 proved costly as Joint drew first blood in the battle of two young guns. In Set 2, the 20-year-old Eala then took advantage of a frustrated Joint, who was seen throwing her racket after Eala secured a 40-15 lead in Game 6, which then allowed the Filipina netter to reach the set point at 5-1. Joint continued to commit errors as Eala leveled the game at one set apiece by dominating the Set 2, 6-1. Eala's tournament recap: Qualifying draw: Main draw: —JKC, GMA Integrated News
