Noida: ‘Van Mahotsav' celebrated at Okhla Bird Sanctuary
The initiative, jointly inaugurated by state and district officials under the ambitious 'Green Mission 2025', witnessed the launch of a plantation drive.
The programme is part of Uttar Pradesh (UP) government's endeavour to plant 931,520 saplings across the district this year, and the plantation will continue throughout this Monsoon season, said officials.
UP's minister of state for environment, forest and climate change KP Malik, the chief guest at the event, planted a 'rudraksha' sapling on the occasion.
'Protecting the environment is no longer optional. Each citizen must contribute to this effort. Tree plantation is a vital step in restoring ecological balance,' he said.
To raise public awareness, he also flagged off a publicity van that will travel across the district promoting significance of plantation and environmental care.
At the event, district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma called upon residents to plant at least one tree in their mother's name. He described this year's campaign as a 'mega mission'.
'We must treat this campaign as a collective movement. It is our social and moral duty to participate and inspire others,' he added.
On the occasion, speakers raised alarm over rising pollution and global warming, stressing on the essential link between human survival and environmental health.
Meanwhile, Ghaziabad divisional director Isha Tiwari, Hapur divisional forest officer Arshi Malik, officials from various departments of Gautam Budh Nagar, and representatives of NGO She-Wing were also present on the occasion.

Aimed at further increasing green cover in the coal belt, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) embarked on a mega sapling plantation drive as part of the State government's 'Van Mahotsav' programme. Giving a fillip to the green drive, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Balram set an inspiring example by personally planted 500 saplings in Ramagundam-1 Area of Peddapalli district on Sunday, SCCL sources said. Mr. Balram planted around 19,570 saplings individually across 52 locations in and around the SCCL coalfields spanning the State's vast coal belt since 2019. His greening efforts helped develop mini-forests in the coal belt spread across six districts and earned him 'Tree Man of Telangana' award by the Green Maple Foundation last year. The SCCL has already planted over 70 million saplings across 14,000 hectares.

Edu dept issues advance registration schedule for classes 9 & 11
Noida: The education department has released the advance registration schedule for students of Classes 9 and 11 in Noida who are expected to appear for the UP board exams in 2027. All affiliated schools must complete the online registration process by Aug 5 officials said. Students who pass the high school compartment exam have an extended deadline of Aug 20 according to the notice. "A registration fee of Rs 50 per student must be paid through challan," an official said. "Schools are required to upload the payment receipts and student records on the board's official website by Aug 25." Schools are required to submit the final list of verified students—along with their photographs and proof of fee payment—to the office of the district school inspector by Sept 30 as per the guidelines.

Chandigarh launches citywide tree plantation drive with sapling monitoring and sustainability commitment
1 2 3 Chandigarh: Chandigarh launched its citywide tree plantation drive on Saturday to mark Van Mahotsav 2025, planting over one lakh saplings across 253 pre-identified locations. For the first time, the drive includes a monitoring mechanism, with the UT forest department requiring undertakings from participating agencies, including government departments and private stakeholders, to maintain the planted trees for at least three years. The initiative was inaugurated by Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who personally planted saplings at 23 different locations across the city. Addressing the public, the governor urged citizens to treat the occasion not as a yearly ritual but as a pledge toward the planet's well-being. He emphasised that Van Mahotsav is not merely about planting trees, but about planting hope, balance, and the future itself. He described the event as a green movement that should resonate through every household, school, and institution in Chandigarh. The governor also commended the administration's past efforts in creating city forests and urban green corridors. He announced that over five lakh saplings are scheduled to be planted across the UT this year. During the event, he also inaugurated three key environmental policy frameworks: the Greening Chandigarh Action Plan, the State Action Plan on Climate Change, and the Chandigarh Tree Map. Reaffirming the administration's commitment to sustainability, Governor Kataria aligned Chandigarh's vision with the national mission and reiterated the goal of making the city a Net Zero Emission zone by 2030.
