Chris Brown pleads not guilty to UK assault charge

The 36-year-old appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court, where supporters filled the public gallery ahead of the hearing.
The two-time Grammy Award winner, known for hits such as "Loyal," "Run It" and "Under the Influence," was granted bail in May after promising to pay a $6.7 million security fee in order to begin his "Breezy Bowl XX" tour.
During the court hearing, Brown spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth and to deny the charge of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, telling the court clerk: "Not guilty, ma'am."

His co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, 38, also pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm. The pair were granted bail until their next court appearance on July 11, when they may be asked to enter a plea to a less serious charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Brown is also charged with having an offensive weapon, namely a bottle, but was not asked to enter a plea on Friday. Their trial is scheduled to begin on October 26, 2026.
Supporters said "We love you, Chris" as Brown left the dock after the brief hearing.
The R&B star was arrested at a hotel in Manchester, northern England, last month after returning to Britain for the first time since the incident two years ago.

Work to begin on 15 new homes in East Dunbartonshire

East Dunbartonshire Council has confirmed the properties will be built on derelict land beside the Forth and Clyde Canal, at the northern entrance to the village. Construction is scheduled to start in August and is expected to be completed by September 2026. Read more: Lanarkshire health professional awarded MBE in King's Birthday Honours List Urgent warning to concertgoers ahead Chris Brown's gig Councillor Gordan Low, leader of the council, said: "I'm pleased to confirm that work is progressing on the project to create 15 new homes in Twechar – the first part of an ambitious programme of affordable housing which will see over 300 new properties built in East Dunbartonshire. "They will all meet Passivhaus standards, maximising energy efficiency and minimising heat demand – cutting carbon emissions whilst also helping to address fuel poverty by reducing fuel bills for our tenants." The development is part of the council's Affordable Housing Investment Programme, which aims to deliver more than 300 homes across nine sites. The Twechar homes will be built to Passivhaus standards, an approach that will see design and the construction materials focus on maximising energy efficiency and cutting carbon emissions. The project is located next to the council's recently completed Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre. The scheme has completed the pre-construction phase and will be delivered through the SCAPE Scotland Construction Framework. The total cost of the project is estimated at just under £8.8 million. Funding will come from the council's Five Year Housing Capital Investment Plan and the Scottish Government's Affordable Housing Supply Programme. The wider site, including the outdoor centre, has also benefited from the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund, which supported remediation costs.

Lizzo shows off her incredible 60lb weight loss underwear pics as she strips down to thong underwear Seemingly proud of her weight loss, Lizzo is continuing to showcase her figure after she revealed a massive milestone earlier this year. At the start of 2025, the Grammy Award-winner revealed that she had lost around 16 per cent of her body fat from dieting and intense workouts. Advertisement Lizzo previously revealed that she had also reduced her body mass by 10.5. In January, she said on social media: "Today when I stepped on my scale, I reached my weight release goal. "I haven't seen this number since 2014! Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to. Time for new goals!" Meanwhile, a source exclusively told Life & Style in September, 2024 that the the singer had dropped more than 60 pounds since her weight loss journey began. Yet fans then urged the chart star to not "get too skinny." It came after she donned a red bikini in another sizzling social media snap. REAL DEAL Last year, she told The New York Times: "I've been methodical, losing weight very slowly." Advertisement She added to the publication: "I don't really see it because if anyone who's on a natural weight-loss journey knows, losing weight is actually the slowest thing in the world and you don't really notice it until you notice it. "Also the scale's not really moving. "But anyway, that doesn't matter. I'm super proud of my current lifestyle." Yet earlier this month, she confessed to having used fat loss jabs - despite previously denying opting for the drug. Advertisement In a chat onTrisha Paytas' Just Trish podcast, she said she had "tried everything" in her slimming mission. She admitted she tried the medication in 2023 but decided against continuing it. Yet Lizzo said counting calories then proved to be the bets approach for her. She told the podcast: "It's just the science for me, calories in versus calories out. Advertisement "Ozempic works because you eat less food. That's it. "It makes you feel full, so if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same s–t." It came after she doubled down on not using the drug on her Instagram page - leaving fans confused. Last year, she uploaded a caption which read: "When you finally get Ozempic allegations after 5 months of weight training and calorie deficit." Fury as abuser Chris Brown gets to play Hampden while Kneecap axed from TRNSMT

Chris Brown will perform to thousands of fans at Scotland's national stadium on Tuesday despite his history of assault and domestic violence. Women's groups are furious that convicted domestic abuser Chris Brown will play Hampden – while Irish rappers Kneecap were axed from TRNSMT. R'n'B star Brown, 36, will perform to thousands of fans at Scotland's national stadium on Tuesday despite his history of assault and domestic violence. ‌ In 2009, Brown was sentenced to five years probation and community service for attacking ex Rihanna. The Bajan star was pictured with a split lip after Brown hit her. ‌ The move came after calls by John Swinney to axe the Irish hip hop act, with the First Minister saying the political rhetoric 'crossed the line'. Kneecap band member Mo Chara was charged with a terror offence over allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a gig in London last November. Jenni Snell, CEO of Scotland's Young Women's Movement, said: 'It is deeply disappointing that performers with histories of violence against women are able to play major, national venues like Hampden Park. 'With the recent context of Kneecap being dropped by TRNSMT following controversy sparked by a political campaign against them, we are forced to question why a known domestic abuser playing a major Glasgow venue has not generated any controversy whatsoever. ‌ 'When you consider TRNSMT and Chris Brown's UK tour are run by the same promoter, it's only right these double standards are scrutinised.' Scots promoter DF Concerts –behind next month's TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green – is a subsidiary of Live Nation which is organising Brown's tour. The singer has been able to continue performing despite appearing in court this month over an alleged bottle attack against a man at a London nightclub in 2023. ‌ Brown has pleaded not guilty and was freed on conditional bail. Domestic abuse charity Glasgow Women's Aid accused the entertainment industry of repeatedly 'turning a blind eye' to violence against women. The group said: 'Kneecap were recently removed from a UK festival line-up because of political views. They were deemed too controversial and dropped from the bill. Yet artists accused of repeated violence against women continue to tour, headline and profit with little pushback. ‌ 'Promoters, venues and sponsors claim to stand against violence against women but continue to hand a mic to men who harm.' Male Allies Challenging Sexism (MACS), which has been running its #NoAbusersOnStage campaign since 2023, said: 'Chris Brown's booking at Hampden underlines how accepted male violence against women is in our society. ‌ "Within the music industry and the general public the vast majority of people won't care enough about Chris Brown being a violent abuser. Promoters and venues will be more interested in making money and his fans will care more about his music than his 'past actions'." Snell added: 'We're currently seeing a rise in sexism across society, driven by misogynistic influencers, celebrities and politicians in an increasingly vitriolic landscape… ‌ 'We need to be mindful of the message we send to young women about how they are valued in society when domestic abusers are celebrated, and of the message this sends to young men too.' Glasgow City Council said its role is to 'ensure events are safe and properly organised', adding: 'Any issues in relation to an act performing at an event are a matter for the promoter of the event.' DF Concerts, Brown and Kneecap were contacted for comment.
