Conan Gray Masters the Art of Yearning in 'This Song' Lyrics
Along with heartfelt lyrics that openly yearn for romance, the track is married with whimsical string-heavy production reminiscent of the Goo Goo Dolls' 'Iris'... we can hear those TikTok mashups already. The song brings Conan back to his vulnerable bedroom pop songwriting roots, which is fitting since he wrote most of his fourth studio album, Wishbone, from that very place.
Wishbone is set to be released on August 29, and Conan revealed that he had 'secretly' stumbled upon the writing process almost two years ago.
'Over the past two years, I've been secretly writing songs. After shows in the basements of the venues, in the sheets of my hotel beds, in narrow gaps between tours— I'd come back home and write all the things I felt nobody wanted to hear. Maybe even the things I didn't want people to hear,' Conan wrote on Instagram. 'It felt like the music was reminding me who I am, at an experimental time in my twenties where 'who I am' had no definition at all.'
He continued, 'I played the songs to the very first person I'd ever made music with, Dan Nigro, and I quietly began to record. I didn't know why I was recording, I just was. I didn't know what story I was telling, I was just living in it. Slowly I started to see myself in full picture. The slivers of myself I'd always been, but never faced. The songs I'd always been writing, but never singing. Before I knew it I was surrounded by an album.'
That being said! Now seems like a good time to learn the lyrics of 'This Song' as Conan is hitting a few music festivals later this year.
Lyrics by Conan Gray
[Verse 1]
Yeah, I know that I love you
And I have a feeling that you love me back
I'm sat in my bedroom
And I hear your heart like a train on the tracks
Your eyes are like heaven
Your voice is like rain
Eleven elevens, they all hear your name
Too shy to tell you the words on my mind
I hope you can see if you read through these lines
Get in, it's time to yearn (aka... a likely thing to do during a Conan song). In the first verse, he confesses his love for his subject with pure poetry. When he feels those emotions could potentially be reciprocated, he seemingly calls back to Train's 'Drops of Jupiter': 'She acts like summer / and walks like rain.'
Conan shares that he wishes for this person every time the clock turns 11:11 — it's also a nod to another Wishbone track of the same name.
[Chorus]
That I wrote this song about you
A song that I wish you knew
A song that I tried to sing
But now I'll say it straight
I wrote this song about you
In case the subject needed clarity on whether this song was about them... now they know.
[Verse 2]
I drive through the suburbs
And you're playing all of your favorite songs
You joke about your mother
She can't help but cry when she hears Elton John
You're singing obnoxious
I'm laughing like spring
Your brown racer jacket
My hands through the sleeves
The smell of your perfume
Is all over me
I can't wash it off so it's easy to see
The second verse is truly what love is all about... it's the little things. Singing along to Elton John songs, wearing each other's clothes, and embracing the lingering scent of each other's fragrances.
Also, there could be a cute lil Easter egg that potentially ties back to Conan's bestie, Olivia Rodrigo, here with 'You're singing obnoxious' and her 'Deja Vu' lyrics: 'Watching re-runs of Glee / Being annoying.'
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
You know that I love you
Is it dumb believing you might love me too?
Yeah
[Outro]
(I wrote this song about you)
(I wrote this song about you)
You know that I love you

Owner Sees Dog's Medical Records—Can't Cope With Photo the Vet Used
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A routine vet visit took an unexpected and highly amusing turn for a woman when she received her dog Gigi's medical records. In a viral TikTok video, the owner revealed the photo chosen by the veterinary office for Gigi's official file, instantly transforming the Chihuahua-Italian greyhound mix into an internet sensation. Gigi's owner, Arielle, 27, told Newsweek about the clip, which received nearly 2 million likes, and about Gigi, who has proved an unwavering support during a difficult time. The image shows Gigi with a wide, almost-manic grin, her eyes gleaming. "The photo the vet took for Gigi's medical records … They also said she was in perfect shape," Arielle captioned the video. Photos from Arielle's TikTok video of her dog, Gigi. Photos from Arielle's TikTok video of her dog, Gigi. @coffee.g0blin/TikTok Arielle, who recently moved from Florida to North Carolina to start fresh, had taken her then-5-year-old Gigi to the vet for the first time on her own. "When we got to the vet office, one of the techs came in, saying she needed to take a photo of Gigi," Arielle said. "As she was taking the photo, Gigi gave her what I like to call her 'iconic Gigi smile.' Gigi smiles when she gets excited." The vet tech, aware of the photo's comedic gold, showed it to Arielle and even sent it to her. It wasn't until moments later, when the paperwork for Gigi's treatments and costs arrived, that Arielle realized the hilarious image was now permanently fixed to her pup's official medical history. 'I Knew Gigi Was Special' Despite her wild-eyed photo, Gigi's everyday personality is surprisingly mellow. "Gigi's personality is calm but alert," Arielle said. "She's always aware of her surroundings but spends most of her time snuggled up in a blanket or perched on a stack of pillows." And Gigi's unique charm hasn't just captivated her owner; she is becoming a local celebrity. "I was at a bar the other day and a complete stranger came up to me to say she's seen me walking Gigi around the neighborhood and absolutely loves her," Arielle said. The TikTok video itself has also boosted Gigi's fame, with Arielle gaining "thousands of followers" since posting the photo. "Some people even have her as their profile photo and will comment on everything I post with her in it," she said. For Arielle, though, Gigi is more than just a funny face. "I knew Gigi was special the moment I met her, so it's amazing how so many other people are seeing that as well," Arielle said. "I'm a cancer patient, so having her in my life has made my treatments much more bearable. Dogs are such a gift—we are so lucky to have them in our lives. I am forever grateful for my Gigi and will keep sharing how great she is with the world."

These Homeowners Found a SECRET Note From the Past—and It's Melting Hearts on TikTok
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Homeowners on TikTok are falling in love with the sweet surprise a couple received when moving into their new home. TikTok user @madisonelizabethgrace posted a now-viral video of the sentimental gift her and her husband, David, were given by their home's previous owners. Included was a note and the photographic history of their newly purchased residence. "The prior owner (who owned the house since it was originally built 30+ years ago) left us the sweetest surprise - a note saying 'this is your house…from the beginning' along with Polaroids that she took of the home construction & build," Madison wrote in the caption of her TikTok post. Selling a home is a process often filled with emotion, and it often includes leaving behind a place you loved and hoping someone else will care for it the same way you did. Passing along the stories of memories made in that house to the next owners is a way to help keep the history alive, and Madison's former homeowners aren't the only ones doing it. "Our previous owner did a few sweet things like this and now I still text her about updates we make or questions etc, even told her we made their spare bedroom into a nursery," commented TikTok user WinnyTheAussie. Comments flooded Madison's TikTok with adoration for the transparent thoughtfulness of the photos and the feelings they evoked, leaving many viewers in love with the idea and fellow homeowners chiming in with their own similar experiences. "Our home came with a binder. Pictures, permits, anything they changed over the years. My favorite is that on our wall is a photo of the original homeowners on the front porch. Over 100 years later and that photo has been passed down from one homeowner to the next..." read a comment from TikTok user kaymfka. Numerous responses to the video of people sharing their own stories proved the idea of gifting the next owners the story of your former home is becoming an ongoing trend, and we're here for this incredible gesture. Whether you've recently moved into a new place, or are updating the house you've called home for years, consider taking photos of any changes you make and documenting the history over time. Not only will future owners enjoy learning about the evolution of their house, but you'll have memories to share with your family, photos to hang on the wall, and stories to reminisce on for years to come. Madison has continued to chronicle the transformation of her new house, this time in video form. She posts TikToks of her and David sprucing up their new abode, tackling the unexpected tasks of homeownership, and prepping a nursery for their baby, due later this summer. Needless to say, they're continuing the history of love and heart in their beloved new (old) home. Follow on Instagram and TikTok.
