AIADMK will form govt with majority, says EPS in response to Shah's remarks in TNIE interview
His statement came in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks in an exclusive interview with The New Indian Express, where Shah said the BJP would be part of the government.
When asked about Shah's remarks, Palaniswami responded to reporters in Puducherry, saying, 'Have I not said it clearly? AIADMK will win with a majority and form the government. Thank you!'.
He did not elaborate further or categorically rule out the inclusion of alliance partners even if AIADMK secures majority on its own.
Palaniswami's comments on Saturday were his clearest indication yet that the AIADMK is not comfortable to share power with the BJP.
The idea of coalition government has remained a thorn in the AIADMK-BJP alliance ever since the Dravidian party joined back the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the presence of Shah in Chennai on April 11.

Needs to be ascertained further why engines of AI flight 171 shut down after take off: Rudy
'The report says when the aircraft crashed, the switches were in the run position, which means the switches were on. There are some preliminary evidence that indicates that the pilots may have noticed the engine power declining. It appears that both engines had flamed out, which in common parlance means the engines had stopped,' he said. Talking to reporters here, Rudy, himself a commercial pilot, said a preliminary report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), released on Saturday, has pointed out that when the plane crashed, the fuel switches were in the 'run' position, which means they were on. New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) There is a need to further ascertain why the engines of the Air India flight 171 shut down soon after the plane took off, BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy said on Saturday, noting that the pilots might have turned the fuel switches off and on within a fraction of a second to re-start the engines after they flamed out. 'We know what happened, but we still need to find out if at all both the engines had flamed out…,' he said, adding, 'The RAT (Ram Air Turbine) had been deployed and the auxiliary power unit had automatically re-started the engines. It is ample indication that the engines had lost power.' Rudy, however, said even though he is a pilot, his comments should not be taken as an expert opinion. 'I am a seventh-term MP and my profession is politics,' he said, The AAIB report said seconds before Air India flight 171 crashed while ascending from Ahmedabad on June 12, the fuel control switches of both its engines were cut off, suggesting a catastrophic pilot error in the cockpit of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The Airlines Pilots Association of India has raised issues with the report and alleged that the investigation is 'shrouded in secrecy', appears to be biased against the pilots and has come to a conclusion hastily. Asked if there was any possibility of human error, Rudy told PTI Videos that the pilots, who were 'well-experienced and qualified' to fly, took 'corrective actions' to re-start the engines but unfortunately, the plane still crashed because there was not enough height and speed for both engines to relight, and there were also obstructions due to buildings. The BJP leader said one of the engines restarted due to the pilots' efforts but the other continued to struggle. Asked if the cockpit audio suggests some kind of confusion and miscommunication between the two pilots, he said, 'Absolutely wrong.' 'It is a call and a confirmation which the captain has sought from the other. There was no pilot confusion. I would appreciate the action on the part of the senior commanders who initiated the re-start of the engine within a span of 30 seconds by flicking the fuel-control switches,' Rudy said. 'Why the engines shut down is a matter of analysis,' he added. According to a chronology laid out in the AAIB report, both the fuel cut-off switches moved from RUN to CUTOFF one second apart, almost immediately after takeoff. A RAT pump was deployed to supply hydraulic power as both engines fell below the minimum idle rate. About 10 seconds later, the first engine's fuel cut-off switch moved to its so-called RUN position, followed by the second engine four seconds later. The pilots managed to relight both engines, but only the first one recovered, while the second failed to build up enough power again to reverse deceleration. One of the pilots issued a 'Mayday, Mayday, Mayday' distress call, but before air-traffic controllers could get a response regarding what had gone wrong, the plane crashed just outside the Ahmedabad airport boundary, having grazed some trees before plunging into a hostel packed with students. Uttarakhand minister's kin among 7 held under Gangster Act in UP
The group includes Saurabh Rathore, the alleged gang leader, and several associates, including Shivam Rathore, Akash Rathore, Vishal Rathore alias Bhura, Lalu Patel alias Shivraj, and Santosh Sahu. Among those booked is Tinkoo Rathore, the nephew of senior BJP leader Girdhari Pappu, whose wife, Rekha Arya, is an Uttarakhand minister. Bareilly (UP), Jul 12 (PTI) Seven individuals, including a relative of an Uttarakhand cabinet minister's husband, were held under the Gangster Act, for allegedly being involved in a shootout incident, officials said on Saturday. 'Considering the criminal tendencies and records of the gang, a case was registered under the Gangster Act on July 9 after obtaining approval from the SP Crime and the SSP,' Baradari Police Station SHO Dhananjay Kumar Pandey said. The incident occurred on December 9, 2024, in Jogi Nawada, within the Baradari Police Station area. A personal rivalry led Saurabh Rathore and his associates to allegedly open fire on Lakhan Rathore and Prempal Rathore, who were hospitalised for several days following the attack. Following the shootout, the police registered an FIR against Saurabh and his accomplices under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Rathore (27) has a history of nine cases, including attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons, assault, and rioting, police sources said. The decision to invoke the Gangster Act was made after a thorough review of the gang's criminal record and nature, with approval from senior officials, SHO Pandey said. The police are currently investigating and are in the process of attaching the gang's illegally acquired assets as part of the ongoing investigation. DMK will remain in power with absolute majority, says Vaiko
MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Saturday said that the DMK would get absolute majority in the 2026 Assembly election in the State. Speaking to reporters here, he said the question of a coalition government would not arise as the people of the State would not accept such an idea. He did not want a coalition government either. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin would continue to lead the Dravidian model government by winning the upcoming Assembly election. The MDMK, after holding intensive consultations with its decision-making bodies, aligned with the DMK to defeat the communal forces. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP, the RSS, and other Hindutva forces were working hard to make inroads in the State, he alleged. 'They cannot be allowed to succeed. The MDMK will have no change in its stand in continuing the alliance with the DMK, and the party will work towards the success of the alliance,' he added. Asked to comment on Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that the National Democratic Alliance would form the government in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Vaiko said the former was a person to be sidelined in politics in the country. 'He is a backbone of the Hindutva forces. The people of the State will never accept a coalition government. The electorate will give its overwhelming support to the DMK alliance, and Mr. Shah will witness it,' he asserted. When his attention was drawn on the strong objections raised by the AIADMK for his comment on aligning with it in the past, Mr. Vaiko said he had said that it was a mistake to forge an alliance with the AIADMK that put him behind the bars for 19 months under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). However, he did not utter a word criticising the AIADMK and its leaders M.G. Ramachandran or Jayalalithaa, Mr. Vaiko said.
