Dravidian Model 2.0 will be unparalleled, even BJP would acknowledge: TN CM Stalin

MAYILADUTHURAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin confidently declared that the next government will also be a Dravidian model government and assured that "Dravidian Model 2.0" will be an unparalleled governance that will stand as the best in India. While speaking at a government event in Mayiladuthurai on Tuesday, marking his second day of the two-day visit to the district, Stalin said, "We'll elevate Tamil Nadu to the extent that even the BJP government acknowledges it as the foremost state in development…I pledge that Dravidian Model 2.0 will be an unparalleled governance that will stand as the best in India." At the event, Stalin highlighted his administration's flagship initiatives: the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme and the Vidiyal Payanam scheme. Addressing criticism of the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, Stalin aimed at opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The Chief Minister thanked Palaniswami for promoting the very scheme he attempts to criticise.

AIADMK will form govt with majority, says EPS in response to Shah's remarks in TNIE interview

PUDUCHERRY: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will secure a majority and form the government after the 2026 Assembly elections, party general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Saturday. His statement came in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks in an exclusive interview with The New Indian Express, where Shah said the BJP would be part of the government. When asked about Shah's remarks, Palaniswami responded to reporters in Puducherry, saying, 'Have I not said it clearly? AIADMK will win with a majority and form the government. Thank you!'. He did not elaborate further or categorically rule out the inclusion of alliance partners even if AIADMK secures majority on its own. Palaniswami's comments on Saturday were his clearest indication yet that the AIADMK is not comfortable to share power with the BJP. The idea of coalition government has remained a thorn in the AIADMK-BJP alliance ever since the Dravidian party joined back the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the presence of Shah in Chennai on April 11.

AIADMK demands action against leaders of trade unions, political parties supporting bandh

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has requested Director General of Police Shalini Singh to order preventive arrest of leaders of trade unions and political parties supporting the general strike in Puducherry on Wednesday. In a memorandum to the DGP on Tuesday, AIADMK secretary A. Anbalagan said the District Administration has failed to take adequate preventive action in accordance with provisions of section 163 of BNSS Act. 'The Supreme Court in the past had ruled that any bandh or protest causing hardship to the public was unlawful and appropriate action should be taken by the administration to maintain law and order. In Puducherry, the District Administration has not acted upon the situation and so we request the police to take the leaders who have called for the bandh in the Union Territory into preventive custody,' he said.

DMK's membership drive shows the party has become weak, says K.P. Munusamy

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) deputy general secretary K.P. Munusamy has alleged that inducting new members by visiting every household shows the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has become weak. The AIADMK deputy general secretary inaugurated a medical camp and blood donation camp at Gangaleri in Krishnagiri block on Sunday. Mr. Munusamy told reporters usually if a person wants to be a member of a political party, he /she will pay the fee and submit a form. But under the Oraniyil Tamil Nadu inititaive, the DMK cadre are visiting every house to induct new members and it shows the party has become weak. On the 'custodial' death of a temple guard in Sivaganga district, Mr. Munusamy said that if the police picked up a person on suspicion, they should only question him. Based on the instructions from 'someone', he was beaten up and it led to his death. The post-mortem report revealed multiple injury marks in the body. The police took the law into their own hands, believing that some political leader will safeguard them. If this situation continued, it will not be safe for common people. During the AIADMK regime, the law and order situation was good.' Responding to a question on the claims of the farmers' association leader P.R. Pandian that they will contest against DMK in the 2026 elections, Mr. Munusamy said that the farmers were affected by the DMK government and their views were correct. The AIADMK demanded ₹30,000 an acre for mango farmers to safeguard their livelihood. But the government is doing politics. The DMK will pay for this in 2026 elections, he said.
