European Commission aims for quantum dominance
The European Commission has introduced a new plan to position Europe as a dominant force in the quantum technology sector by 2030. This initiative seeks to develop a robust and independent quantum ecosystem that will support startup growth and help transform scientific discoveries into market-ready applications. Quantum technology, with better processing speeds compared to conventional computing, is expected to address complex challenges. This includes advancements in pharmaceuticals and securing critical infrastructure. These technologies are also anticipated to enhance the EU's industrial competitiveness and technological sovereignty, with notable implications for defence and security. European Commission estimates that the sector will create thousands of skilled jobs across the EU and surpass a global valuation of €155bn ($183bn) by 2040. The new strategy particularly targets five primary areas: research and innovation, quantum infrastructures, ecosystem development, space and dual-use technologies, and quantum skills. The planned actions will include launching the Quantum Europe Research and Innovation Initiative with EU Member States to support foundational research and develop applications in crucial public and industrial sectors. Additionally, a quantum design facility and six quantum chip pilot lines will be established to convert scientific prototypes into manufacturable products. The strategy also includes plans to launch a pilot facility for the European Quantum Internet and expand the network of Quantum Competence Clusters across the EU. The European Quantum Skills Academy is expected to be established by 2026. The plan also envisages a collaboration with the European Space Agency for the development of a Quantum Technology Roadmap in Space. A significant aim of the strategy is to boost the share of global private funding that European quantum companies receive. The figure currently stands at approximately 5%. 'We have to now focus more on private funding because we are very strong already in public funding,' EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen was quoted by Reuters as saying in a press conference. In the past five years, the European Commission and EU countries have provided more than €11bn in public funding for quantum technology. The commission intends to work closely with Member States and the European quantum community, including academia, startups, industrial actors, and innovation stakeholders, to achieve the strategy's objectives. A High-Level Advisory Board, comprising leading European quantum scientists and technology experts, will offer independent strategic guidance on implementing the Quantum Europe Strategy. This will be followed by a Quantum Act proposal, expected in 2026, to further build on the strategy. Hyundai opens UX Studio user experience lab in Seoul
Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) has opened its first 'UX Studio' participatory research center in Seoul, designed to engage customers to 'co-create' future mobility experiences. The South Korean automaker said the new centre 'marks a significant milestone in its ongoing journey of innovation.' HMG claims that UX Studio Seoul is one of the first open research platforms in the global automotive industry where customers can actively participate in the development of mobility user experiences (UX) and apply their insights to new UX concepts. The company said that 'customers can freely explore various future mobility environments, take part in pioneering UX research, and experience firsthand how customer feedback influences vehicle features and their development.' Hyolin Kim, head of HMG's Feature Strategy Group, said in a statement: 'Our vision for the best UX goes beyond convenience to foster a truly inspiring mobility experience. At the heart of this vision is the voice of our customers. 'UX Studio Seoul' is not about delivering a one-way experience – it is a collaborative hub where customer insights are directly integrated into the actual vehicle development process.' HMG said that UX Studio Seoul reflects its commitment to revolutionizing user experiences amidst a paradigm shift driven by electrification and autonomous driving. The studio aims to showcase HMG's ability to deliver 'differentiated value' across all aspects of mobility, including driving performance, infotainment systems, and convenience features. HMG confirmed that visitors can test UX concepts using virtual reality, join research programmes, and explore the company's software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture in the 'Open Lab.' The company describes the Open Lab as an interactive space divided into three distinct areas: the UX Test Zone, SDV Zone, and UX Archive Zone. 'Each zone is designed to provide visitors with unique opportunities to explore the cutting-edge technologies and research processes that define HMG's approach to mobility UX.' The SDV (Software-defined Vehicle) Zone introduces HMG's latest SDV hardware and software technologies, including its new electrical and electronic (E&E) architecture introduced at the 'Pleos 25' developer conference. This architecture reduces system complexity by consolidating the high-performance vehicle computer (HPVC) and zone controllers, enabling continuous software updates by 'decoupling hardware and software development.' The SDV Testbed allows visitors to interact with the Group's next-generation infotainment system, Pleos Connect, based on Android Automotive OS (AAOS). Pleos Connect enables seamless mobile-to-vehicle integration and incorporates the AI voice assistant Gleo AI, allowing advanced voice control of infotainment features. 'Le'Chaim America' Launched - An Initiative to Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary Year in a Jewish Way
New York, NY July 03, 2025 --( )-- Today, Reut USA and Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM) proudly announce the launch of 'Le'Chaim America' in honor of America's 250th anniversary year also known as the Semi-Quin-Centennial (SQC). Le'Chaim America aims to inspire and support a distinctly Jewish participation in the celebrations of the United States' 250th anniversary, which will likely include thousands of events over a two-year period from July 4, 2025 to July 4, 2027. Le'Chaim America will inspire and support American Jewish communities to celebrate the SQC both locally, within their own areas, and collectively, as a unified American Jewish community It will do so by sharing essential information about the celebrations and ways to participate, as well as by inspiring and supporting programs that will highlight the unique contribution of American Jewry to America's journey and successes. As part of Le'Chaim America, Reut USA and TOM will use the SQC as an opportunity for revitalization of American Jewry as the 'great Diaspora of our time,' which has at least decades of a promising future ahead of it. The effort of communal renewal will be marked by conferences, events and publications in various formats including articles and podcasts. In addition, a gift of gratitude to America: as part of Le'Chaim America, Reut USA's social impact arm, Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM), commits to deliver innovations, which were created in Israel for wounded soldiers with American support, and make them available to American wounded veterans. This will be done through collaboration with local Jewish communities. More information about this initiative will be shared separately. Finally, Le'Chaim America calls for using local, regional, and national events toward strengthening community relations with other minorities, as well as with elected and appointed officials. Gidi Grinstein, founder and president of Reut USA and TOM said: 'America's Semi-Quin-Centennial will be marked and celebrated in thousands of events on the federal, state and local levels over at least a two-year period. Through Le'Chaim America, we aim to showcase the power and relevance of Jewish values, entrepreneurial spirit, and community engagement while emphasizing our enduring partnership with and gratitude to the United States.' Grinstein called for every institution within America's Jewish communities '...to find its way to celebrate the SQC.' He said, 'Federations in particular must engage with their state and city SQC committees to ensure that the Jewish story is shared and celebrated as part of the celebrations in their area. Reut USA has done the research and developed tailored AI-based tools for this effort and is ready to support such institutions as they design their plans.' Grinstein added: 'American Jewry has faced dramatic and unanticipated challenges since October 7, 2023, which is why the SQC is an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine our communities, our role in American society and among world Jewry,' noting that 'the SQC offers an opportunity not only for assessment and gratitude, but also for deep reflection and a bold vision.' Rabbi Randy Brown, who is a chaplain at the VA and the Coordinator of Le'Chaim America and who also named the initiative, said, 'The United States of America offered Jews freedoms of religion and association like no other nation ever did. In America, Jews prospered, and American Jewry literally saved the Jewish world before and after the Holocaust. Over the years, American Jewry has played an instrumental role in advancing American causes such as civil rights, communal responsibility, caring for the vulnerable, as well as fighting antisemitism, bigotry, and chauvinism, and supporting the alliance between the U.S. and Israel and the wellbeing of Jewish communities worldwide. Le'Chaim America is our collective opportunity to express deeply felt gratitude and to inspire pride in our contributions to American society.' Read more about this call to action in Grinstein's piece in EJewishPhilanthropy, America's 250th Anniversary Offers Opportunities for Jewish Distinction, and check out his podcast, Flexigidity, which explores the direction and condition of the Jewish people. About Reut USA and Tikkun Olam Makers: Reut USA is a non-partisan strategy institute dedicated to tackling some of the toughest challenges of the Jewish world and the State of Israel.
