Man told he faces jail over crash death of girl, 9
Alice Williams died in hospital three days after Qadeer Hussain struck her on a pedestrian crossing as he was driving a Vauxhall Corsa down King Cross Street in Halifax on 8 July 2023, Bradford Crown Court heard on Friday.
After his plea, Judge Sophie McKone imposed an interim driving ban on Hussain, who the court was told had no previous convictions, and ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Granting him bail until a sentence hearing on 2 May, the judge told Hussain, 55, of Essex Street, Halifax, he faced an inevitable prison sentence for the offence.
Soheil Khan, Hussain's barrister, said his client "knows the tragedy in which his actions ended will mean an immediate custodial sentence".
Following Alice's death, her family issued a statement describing her as "a bright, loving and beautiful girl who brought joy every day to family and friends".
She was described by her school's headteacher as a girl who was "gentle, kind-hearted and full of smiles".

'Daftest' city flytipper caught on camera
A Coventry City Council employee has posted what they believe could be the "daftest" video yet of fly-tipping in the city. The local authority has run a series of videos entitled "Coventry Wall of Shame", highlighting illegal dumping in the city. The most recent video includes a clip of a man on a bicycle with a large, round object balanced on his head. The incident took place on Bedlam Lane on 10 June, and anyone with information is urged to contact the council. "I've been making these videos for about a year, and this might be the daftest clip I've had yet," the council commentator said. "I can't tell if it's a lampshade or some sort of chair thing. Bravery award for man, 84, who fought off mugger
A pensioner who fought off a mugger with the help of a pair of jeans has been commended for his bravery. Ron Croker was on his own at the Coin-Op Launderette in Maltby, Rotherham, on 7 January when a masked Lloyd Smith burst in and demanded his wallet. Mr Croker, 84, wrapped a pair of jeans around his arm to protect him from any potential weapons and shoved Smith, 42, back through the door. This week, Mr Croker was presented with a commendation for his "tremendous courage" in fighting off Smith, who has since been jailed for the attack. Mr Croker suffered bruises to his hands and arm but otherwise escaped without losing his wallet or any other items. He previously told the BBC he had worked "all my life" for his money and decided Smith was "not having it". Rotherham District Commander Ch Supt Andy Wright said Mr Croker's actions had been "nothing short of remarkable". "We often talk about police officers running towards danger when others run away from it," he said. "In this instance, Ron did neither. He stood his ground, fought for what is right and showed tremendous courage when it would have been easy not to." According to South Yorkshire Police, Smith was identified by members of the public after CCTV footage of the attack was publicised. Smith, of Myrtle Grove, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and was jailed for three years and nine months at Sheffield Crown Court in June. Boy, 14, dies after being struck by car at bridge over Cessnock Water in East Ayrshire
A 14-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in East Ayrshire. Emergency crews were called to the A76 at the bridge over Cessnock Water, near Hurlford, at about 5.10pm on Wednesday. Police said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and his family has been notified. The male driver of the Vauxhall Corsa and his two passengers were checked over by paramedics, but were not required to attend hospital. The road was closed for several hours to allow for investigation works. Police Scotland is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
