Port Klang boat capsize: Bodies of missing couple found, teen survivor recounts horror
'The incident happened very fast,' 17-year-old Alvin Chang Yan Qin told the media on Saturday, a day after he was rescued.
According to Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), patrol teams found the two missing bodies at around 7.45am on Sunday as search and rescue operations resumed, reported local news outlet the New Straits Times (NST).
'Both bodies were found floating, approximately 200m apart,' Syafiq told reporters after the victims' bodies were brought ashore at the Selangor MMEA Jetty.
They are the parents of a three-year-old boy who was earlier found dead along with two other Malaysians after the boat capsized on Friday afternoon.
Chang, the only survivor among the six, said that the tragedy happened when the boat made a U-turn about 30 minutes after departing from the Royal Selangor Yacht Club dock.
'The incident happened very quickly when the relatively fast-moving boat suddenly overturned and in less than 10 seconds, water had entered all compartments of the boat,' Chang said at the Selangor maritime agency office on Saturday, as quoted by Free Malaysia Today (FMT).
Selangor maritime director Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh earlier said that the boat was believed to have lost control before capsizing about 0.3 nautical miles west of Tanjung Harapan.
'The situation inside the boat became chaotic, but I saved myself by trying to swim before managing to sit on top of the overturned boat,' Chang added.
The teen told the media that he could only scream for help after realising he could no longer see the other passengers. About five minutes of holding on to the boat, fishermen in another boat rescued him, before calling the authorities for assistance.
The missing victims are believed to be test-driving the boat, which was recently repaired, NST reported earlier.
'I understand this was the second test run for the boat and before this the boat was found to be in overall good condition,' he was quoted as saying by FMT.
The final two victims were earlier identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Carren Man, 29, both from Klang Utama in Selangor. Their three-year-old son Darren Gan was among the three found dead in the front compartment of the boat, alongside family friends Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29, also from Klang Utama.
It is still unclear how Chang, the only survivor, is related to the other victims.
When the boat was successfully refloated by rescuers on Saturday, the couple was not inside, said Port Klang Fire and Rescue Department Haikal Jammy Ngali at a press conference earlier on Saturday, according to Bernama.
This strengthened the fire department's theory that the missing victims drifted away with the current, he said.
Haikal also did not rule out the possibility that the married couple was thrown overboard during the capsize, FMT reported.
Police chief S Vijaya earlier said it is believed that all the victims were not wearing life jackets, which made the search-and-rescue effort more difficult. Initial investigations also found that the boat was operated by its owner at the time, he told FMT.
The boat is believed to belong to Cheu, according to The Star.
A woman who identified herself only as Hung, and claimed to be Cheu's widow, told The Star that the boat did not have any issues.
She said that the first test drive had gone smoothly and the boat capsized during the second attempt on Friday.

Zara Qairina Mahathir, a Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datu Mustapha student, was found unconscious at about 4am on Jul 16. She is believed to have fallen from the third floor of her school dormitory in Papar in the East Malaysian state, and was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital the following day. Her death has sparked social media allegations of bullying by the child of an influential figure and garnered national attention for weeks through the hashtag #JusticeforZara. Though Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said last Saturday (Aug 2) the police had completed their probe, Zara's mother said she filed another police report on Sunday after recalling seeing bruises on her daughter's back while preparing her body for burial, Malaysian media reported. Zara's mother, Noraidah Lamat, has denied making allegations linking her daughter's death to prominent individuals, according to a statement on Saturday by her lawyers. 'Noraidah has never mentioned any high-profile individual in relation to Zara's death. Any such assumptions or allegations are baseless and did not come from her,' said her lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, as reported by Berita Harian. Noraidah's lawyers also denied their client made claims about what was said to a student on the day of the incident, and that three students had been transferred out of the school. The lawyers said Noraidah only learned of claims – including of a student being shouted at with the words 'you're a murderer' – after they began circulating on social media. Papar police chief superintendent Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said last Saturday his team had found no evidence suggesting children of prominent individuals, including ministers' families or those associated with Borneo state's palace, were involved. 'One such student … had threatened Zara by saying, 'If I touch you, you'll bleed',' the lawyers previously said. In the same police report, her mother had expressed doubt over the alleged cause of Zara's death that she had fallen from the third floor of a building. 'Zara's body showed no signs of physical trauma, bruises, or injuries typically associated with a fall from such a height,' the lawyers earlier said on Jul 30, as quoted by the New Straits Times. 'No post-mortem was carried out before Zara was buried," they said. According to them, Noraidah believes Zara did not take her own life. According to Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun, the police have received four reports related to the case, including the latest report lodged by Zara's mother on Sunday, Malay Mail reported. They reiterated their call on Sunday for her body to be exhumed immediately and a post-mortem to be conducted. On the bruises that Noraidah now recalls seeing on her daughter's body, they said: 'Our client did not include this important information in her earlier police reports because she had completely forgotten about it … she had been overcome with grief since Jul 16 following what happened to her daughter.'

CAD probes Tokenize Xchange operator, director faces fraudulent trading charge as users say their assets remain 'in transit'
SINGAPORE: The operator of cryptocurrency trading platform Tokenize Xchange, AmazingTech Pte Ltd (ATPL), and its related companies are under investigation by the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) for potential offences including fraudulent trading, according to a joint statement from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Friday (Aug 1). Thirty-five-year-old ATPL director Hong Qi Yu was also charged on Thursday (July 31) with fraudulent trading, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both. The announcement of the investigation followed ATPL's announcement on July 20 that it is in the process of acquiring a digital financial services (DFS) licence from Malaysia's Labuan Financial Services Authority (LFSA), after failing to obtain a major payment institution (MPI) licence in Singapore. On the same day, the company informed users they had until Sep 30 to complete any withdrawals or transfers of assets, as it announced support for its Singapore staff in pursuing new career opportunities by then. Authorities said that Tokenize Xchange had been operating under an exemption from the Payment Services Act 2019 (PS Act) while MAS reviewed its application for an MPI licence. The exemption, which applied to entities already conducting activities that came under the Act when it came into force, ended on Jul 4 after MAS rejected its application. Authorities added that the operator is not licensed by MAS, and its activities were not supervised or regulated by MAS. 'Thereafter, ATPL was required to cease providing payment services, wind down its business in an orderly manner, and ensure that all monies and digital payment tokens received from its customers were returned,' MAS and SPF added. In mid-July, MAS received several complaints against ATPL over delays in processing customer withdrawals of funds and digital payment tokens. MAS told the firm to address these concerns and return all funds and digital payment tokens to customer accounts in an orderly manner, including covering any shortfall in their accounts. Through its engagements with the company, MAS subsequently found signs that the company did not have enough assets to meet customer claims and that it might have failed to keep customer assets separate from its own. MAS also found indications that the company might have made false representations regarding the segregation of its customers' assets when it applied for an MPI licence. The company was then referred to CAD for investigation. Student chokes teacher after refusing to pick up fallen paper
MALAYSIA: A secondary school teacher in Pahang was allegedly assaulted by a male student during a classroom altercation, according to a series of social media posts made by the teacher's brother earlier this week. The incident reportedly began when the teacher asked the student to help pick up a test paper, belonging to a female student, that had fallen near his feet. The teacher asked the boy to pick it up, but he refused. Instead, he allegedly stepped on the paper repeatedly and made a gesture as though he was about to throw water on it. This escalated into a physical confrontation during which the male student allegedly strangled the female teacher. Several other students who witnessed the scene intervened, allowing the teacher to break free. She later sought medical attention for her injuries and lodged a police report. The incident sparked concern among the teacher's family, who publicly criticised the school for what they viewed as an inadequate response.
