Anti Social Social Club (ASSC)has officially opened its first global flagship store inSeoul's vibrant Dosan neighborhood. This launch marks a significant milestone for the Los Angeles-born streetwear label, solidifying its international presence and offering a direct, immersive brand experience in the heart of South Korea.
Under the 'Step into the 'Weird Seoul' of ASSC' slogan, the store offers an immersive brand experience that blends fashion, culture and curated eccentricity. The space showcases an eclectic mix of products, which includes globally recognized Quickstrike collaborations likeAssassin's CreedandWWE. In addition to that, the brand also unveiled the 'Chapter Dosan' collection that is exclusive to their Seoul store.
Adding to the store's distinctive offbeat charm is a dedicatedWeirdArchiveexhibition. The exhibition features a playful array of non-apparel items, spanning lanterns, camping gear as well as nostalgic past collaborations like the Playboy cushion and sleep mask.
To celebrate the opening, founder and creative director Ian Coates hosted a talk session with Korean artists and fashion insiders, delving into the emotional and cultural DNA of the brand. The Seoul team also introduced a flagship-exclusive customization program, inviting visitors to create their own 'weird fit' in line with the brand's ethos of self-expression and unpredictability. What James Gunn's ‘Superman' Tells Us About the Future of the DC Universe
It's been years since James Gunn and Peter Safran first announced their plans for the future of the DC Universe. In that time, plans have changed slightly, and work is ongoing, but, with one exception, we have yet to see exactly how things are going to play out. That changes July 11 with the release of Superman. Not only is the film our first introduction to this brand-new, reimagined version of Superman, it's our first look at what Gunn and Safran's DC Universe looks like on the big screen. Speaking with James Gunn in Los Angeles recently, io9 asked the writer-director what he thinks Superman as a movie says about the DC Universe he is building as a whole. 'I think all the characters are incredibly important to us,' Gunn said. 'I think that this is a whole universe that is different from our universe. This is not Earth, and then superheroes have been thrust into it. This is a world in which we see giant imps in the background over the city, and it's not the most unusual thing you've ever seen before.' It being a version of our planet with a long, storied history of superheroes before we even drop in is certainly different from other iterations of the DC Universe as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Gunn continues. 'I also think that it also leaves a lot of room for surprises,' he said. 'I think that one of the things that I was excited about doing with DC is creating a reflection of some of the great graphic novels in DC, which are very tonally different from each other, which have different artists and different writers. Things are subtly different from graphic novel to graphic novel.' Gunn then pointed at the projects that DC currently has in the immediate pipeline to illustrate that. 'To be able to allow people like Craig Gillespie to come in and create this Supergirl as a space fantasy. That's totally different from this movie. Or Damon Lindelof to be working with Chris Mundy on Lanterns. That's a grounded story that's completely different. Or the grounded, messed-up-ness of Peacemaker season two, to start. And, you know, Clayface is body horror! So I wanted to make sure that we have room for very tonally different [projects]…They're all very different from each other. But I think that makes it more fun.' Basically, the fact that anything is possible in Superman is a tease at what we can expect in the DC Universe in the next few years. Are you ready? Tony Hawk says driving is his 'only alone time' in new CarGurus series
We're used to seeing skateboarding legend Tony Hawk on wheels, but a new campaign has him discussing his time behind the wheel rather than on a board. The campaign, called 'The Big Deal Show,' comprises three parts, with Hawk and Powell starring in the first, 'discussing life's biggest moments behind the wheel.' The campaign was released on July 1 and directed by Paul Scheer. Subsequent parts, and their respective celebrity guests, will be released in the coming months. Additionally, CarGurus will be giving away three new Nissan vehicles through a sweepstakes on its website. The company says that in tandem with the release of each episode, 'a winner will be selected to receive a brand-new car (approximately $50,000 in value), along with funds to cover related expenses.' As for what drew Hawk to the project? The answer, he tells Fast Company, is simple: He spends a lot of time in the car. 'I drive a lot,' he says. 'I live in San Diego, and most of the work I do is in Los Angeles, and I'm well-versed and run the gamut in terms of the cars I drive,' Hawk says. He makes the roughly 120-mile trip between the two Southern Californian cities several times per week, and the time behind the wheel is something that he cherishes, as it's often the only time he gets to find some 'zen,' with a busy professional and personal life. 'That's my zen time, my time to zone out and listen to music. It's really the only alone time I get in recent years,' he says. So, when it comes to driving, the time on the road is something that he values. That may not be the case for every driver, of course, and almost all Americans do drive. The most recent data available from AAA, for instance, finds that more than 95% of U.S. residents age 16 or older are behind the wheel at least occasionally, and on average, spend more than an hour in the car each day. Given that, it makes sense that CarGurus would lean into the experiences of a well-known celebrity and athlete to showcase that the average American isn't alone—which may make it a fairly effective campaign. Hawk, growing up, also says that he spent a lot of time on the road going on family trips, but also getting around for skateboard competitions. Driving, in that sense, has been something of a fundamental building block to who he is today, and he says that the act of being on the road itself can teach people a thing or two. 'You learn the value of patience and perseverance, much in the same way you learn to skateboard,' Hawk says. He adds that there's also something important to get on the road, see what's between the cities, and 'open your eyes to new sights and cultures.' So, while most people might think of their commute or a trip to the grocery store as a slog through traffic, Hawk takes a much more philosophical, high-minded approach, and urges others to try and do the same. And if he has a piece of advice for drivers, besides using CarGurus to find their next vehicle? Watch for distracted drivers, because they make it easier to merge. 'There's always someone not paying attention, they're on their phone,' he says. So, seize the gap, use the space, and 'stay safe, and respectful' behind the wheel. Neil Druckmann Is Stepping Away From HBO's ‘Last of Us'
In the wake of the controversially received second season of HBO's Last of Us TV series, series co-creator and executive producer Neill Druckmann has announced that he is stepping away ahead of production on season three. In a statement posted to Naughty Dog's social media accounts today, Druckmann said his move comes 'before any meaningful work' had begun on a third season of The Last of Us, set to continue adapting the remaining events of The Last of Us Part II.
