The Junior Springboks' victory in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship shows that the game is thriving at every level in the country, according to SA Rugby Union (Saru) chief Rian Oberholzer.
As the Springboks have won the last two Rugby World Cup titles, the fact that the junior side is following in their footsteps means the long-term future of the game is in good hands.
It was also the first time in 13 years that an SA side has triumphed in the Under-20 showpiece event.
Oberholzer said a lot of work went on behind the scenes which has led to the strong position of SA rugby.

New Orlando Pirates signing will 'die' on the field

Orlando Pirates have signed a gem. Kamogelo Sebelebele's former TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganović has said the winger earned his big break and insists the Buccaneers are getting a complete player both on and off the pitch. The Tembisa-born player's development under Beganović at TS Galaxy culminated in a breakout 2024/25 season, during which he made 29 appearances, scored five goals, and delivered two assists. His progress has been rapid, and his elevation to one of the most exciting prospects in South African football is, according to Beganović, no accident. Update on Kaizer Chiefs and Nigerian striker New Orlando Pirates winger Kamogelo Sebelebele in Bafana Bafana colours. Image: CosafaTV 'He deserves to sign that contract because he has been with Galaxy for five years. He is an amazing human being, and the next step for him is to join a club like Orlando Pirates,' Beganović told Sowetan . Kaizer Chiefs news: R70 million income and experienced number six 'He made a good decision to join Pirates because he can still improve there; everything he needs is present. I believe he will get ample game time because he is a complete soccer player… I firmly believe he will excel. 'He's a good player with the right attitude… He deserves that, again he adds value to the team… Tired or not tired, he'll die on the field up until the last whistle. I'm happy for Kamogelo, he deserves this move to be honest,' the Serbian mentor concluded. Banyana's Salgado has ‘successful operation', Ramaphosa sends well wishes

Banyana Banyana midfielder Gabriela Salgado had an operation to a broken leg in Casablanca and remains in hospital after sustaining the horrific injury in South Africa's 2-1 Women's Africa Cup of Nations defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday. South African president Cyril Ramaphosa weighed in with his well wishes to Salgado on social media. The South African Football Association (Safa) confirmed details on Wednesday afternoon of the injury that came in the defending champions' loss against the Super Falcons at Stade Larbi Zaouli, meaning Nigeria will contest Saturday's final against hosts Morocco. 'Banyana Banyana star Gabriela Salgado underwent a successful operation at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca on Wednesday,' Safa said. 'Salgado remains in hospital while she recuperates and will stay with the team upon release. She will fly back home with Banyana next week.' Banyana team doctor Dr Lindi Mokoena said Salgado 'sustained a fracture of the mid-shaft of her left leg'.
