Ayodhya news: 14 temples in Ram Mandir complex to be consecrated on June 5; event to coincide with Ganga Dussehra

Mint14-05-2025
Fourteen temples within the Ram Temple complex in the holy city of Ayodhya are scheduled to be consecrated on June 5, reported news agency PTI.
The mega event will coincide with the Ganga Dussehra festival.
The temples slated for consecration include six located within the main precinct — dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Sun God, Ganapati, Hanuman, Goddess Bhagwati, and Goddess Annapurna.
Seven other temples are situated in the Sapt Mandapam area, housing deities and revered figures such as Sage Vashistha, Valmiki, Agastya, Vishwamitra, Ahalya, Shabari, and Nishadraj.
Additionally, an idol of Lakshman, in the form of Sheshavatar, will also be consecrated in the Sheshavatar Temple.
The consecration will be marked by an elaborate three-day festival from June 3 to June 5, the PTI report said, citing Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
However, the rituals are set to commence on May 30, beginning with the installation of the Shiva Lingam in the Shiv Temple located within the complex.
The consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple was held on January 22, 2024 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A total of 101 Vedic scholars from Kashi and Ayodhya will oversee the rituals, including worship of the 'Yagyashala', recitation of the Valmiki Ramayana, chanting of mantras, readings from the four Vedas, and other traditional ceremonies, said the report.
For the consecration ceremonies, two-foot-tall marble thrones have been crafted for the installation of the deities in the respective temples. The idols will be placed on these thrones, trust officials told PTI.
The event is expected to draw a large number of devotees and will further enhance the spiritual and cultural significance of the Ram Temple complex, said the officials.
More than half of the Ram Temple complex will be developed as green space, prioritising environmental conservation, the temple's trust said earlier this month.
Nripendra Mishra, chairman of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, said that 60 per cent of the complex will have green cover and the entire area will adhere to a zero-discharge policy to prevent any pollution in Ayodhya city.
Highlighting the scale of the green initiative, Mishra said that a significant portion of the land is being allocated for gardens and fruit-bearing and shade-giving plants likely to be named "Panchvati."

EC rebuts Rahul Gandhis Lok Sabha poll rigged claim

Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Election Commission on Saturday rejected claims of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that the 2024 Lok polls were rigged, saying it appears that these 'unfounded allegations" are intended to exert undue pressure on the election machinery and even threaten poll officials. Addressing a Congress event here, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha cited data collected by the Congress from an assembly constituency in Karnataka where the party checked the photographs and names of electors physically and reportedly found out that 1.5 lakh votes were 'fake" out of a total of 6.5 lakh voters. 'The election system in India is dead," he said, adding that the Lok Sabha elections were rigged. In a fact-check post on X, the poll authority said Gandhi's statements are 'misleading and baseless." It said during the preparation of the electoral roll for LS-2024, both the Draft and Final Electoral lists were shared with all political parties, including the Congress, and were appealable under provisions of the Representation of the People Act. 'Hardly any appeals were filed across all 36 states and Union territories by the Indian National Congress," it said. The poll body pointed out that in the 2024 parliamentary polls, only eight election petitions were filed by the losing Congress candidates under Section 80 of the RP Act 1951. 'Shri Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly made unsubstantiated and misleading allegations, including baseless claims such as 'vote chori', and has threatened lakhs and lakhs of hardworking election officials across the country. 'It appears that these unfounded allegations are intended to discredit their impartial and transparent hard work, attempt to exert undue pressure on the election machinery, and even threaten them without even filing an appeal against the electoral roll or even an election petition against the conduct of elections as per law," it said. The EC said it had extended an invitation to Gandhi for an interaction on June 12, 2025, 'there has been no response from him so far." Nagaland CM Rio bats for permanent school infrastructure

Last Updated: Kohima, Aug 2 (PTI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said the state must move away from temporary school structures and focus on building permanent, quality infrastructure to ensure long-term educational progress. He was speaking during the virtual inauguration of 51 school infrastructure projects funded under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, held at the chief minister's residential complex here. The projects include 15 new school buildings, additional classrooms in 17 schools, 18 teachers' quarters, and one residential hostel, spread across various districts, a DIPR statement here said. Calling it a 'significant step" in strengthening the education sector, Rio expressed gratitude to the Centre for its continued support and praised the State Samagra Shiksha Mission, led by Mission Director L. Jamithung Lotha, for effectively implementing the projects across the state. The CM said despite the state's difficult geographical terrain, particularly in remote areas, efforts were being made to consistently improve school infrastructure. He said, 'While infrastructure is critical, it is not enough on its own. Community participation and ownership are equally vital to ensure proper maintenance and effective use of the facilities." Rio also stressed that quality education is central to development. 'It empowers citizens, drives economic growth, creates opportunities, and helps build a responsible and prosperous society," he said. He urged all stakeholders to work together to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for students' holistic development. Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, shared detailed statistics on government school infrastructure, stating that of the 16,087 rooms in government schools, 13,767 (86 per cent) are used for instructional purposes, while the rest serve as laboratories, libraries, and teachers' rooms. Yhome emphasised that funding under Samagra Shiksha has been instrumental in addressing infrastructure gaps and said the department's goal of bringing back one lakh out-of-school children by 2030. This, he said, would improve both educational outcomes and economic conditions for families. In his introductory remarks, State Mission Director L. Jamithung Lotha outlined the objectives of the scheme, which integrates previous centrally-sponsored schemes—Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), and Teacher Education (TE)—in line with the National Education Policy 2020. He highlighted key interventions such as school building development, provision of textbooks and uniforms, teacher training, and smart classrooms, while also raising implementation challenges. The virtual event was also attended by MLA A. Pongshi Phom; Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mohammad Ali Shihab, Commissioner and Secretary for School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, and officials from various departments.
