Previously, only 7 lakh hectares in the state were irrigated; now 55 lakh hectares are under irrigation. The target is to expand it to 100 lakh hectares in the next five years, he added.
Additionally, he announced that on the upcoming occasion of Raksha Bandhan, all Ladli Behnas in the state will receive Rs. 1,500 in their accounts--Rs. 1,250 as the fixed scheme amount and an additional Rs. 250 as a Raksha Bandhan gift. He added that with everyone's cooperation, Madhya Pradesh's landscape will be transformed in the next five years.
He further emphasised that the state is working for farmers' prosperity and aims to surpass Punjab and Haryana to become the No. 1 state in India. Agro-based industries are being promoted, and schemes have been launched to make Madhya Pradesh the dairy capital of the country.
Women in self-help groups and farmers are being encouraged to start cattle rearing, with a 25 per cent subsidy provided. The government will buy the milk. Ten gaushalas (cow shelters) are being opened in each municipal corporation. The per-cow subsidy has been increased from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40. The government will support anyone interested in opening a gaushala, he added.
CM Yadav furthermore announced that a stadium would be constructed in Bareli, Barna and Jamgarh irrigation projects in Udaipura Assembly constituency would be launched soon. Along with this, Bareli Nagar Parishad will be upgraded to Nagar Palika, a new veterinary hospital will be built in Bareli and development works will be undertaken at temples in Chhind, Bapauli, and Udaipura regions.
The Chief Minister also participated in a Tiranga Yatra (Tricolour Rally) held in Bareli to honour India's brave soldiers. The event witnessed massive public participation and the CM raised patriotic slogans like Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai, as people showered him with flower petals along the roadsides. (ANI)

BENGALURU: Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was sentenced to life imprisonment Saturday after being found guilty of repeatedly raping a 47-year-old domestic worker, the first of three rape cases filed against him. The 34-year-old grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda, once seen as a rising political star, became the first former MP in Karnataka to get life term as a convicted rapist. Special court judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat delivered the sentence in a packed courtroom, a day after Prajwal was convicted under eight sections of IPC. Two of those - IPC 376(2)(k) and 376(2)(n) - triggered a life sentence for rape by a person in a position of control and for repeated rape of a woman. The survivor alleged Prajwal exploited her over months, filmed her without consent, and used them to blackmail her. The woman alleged sleaze videos of Prajwal surfaced during 2024 LS election campaign, and her husband began suspecting her. Prajwal was arrested in June. His conviction put his family under intense scrutiny as his father HD Revanna, a former MLA, mother Bhavani, and brother Suraj, a surgeon-turned-politician, also face serious allegations. SIT chief BK Singh praised the survivor's courage. 'She stood like a rock. The defence tried every possible way to derail the proceedings,' he said. SIT faced challenges in gathering evidence since the crime occurred nearly four years before the survivor filed her complaint. 'Despite the time gap, her testimony proved crucial,' Singh said. Prajwal's counsel Nalini Mayegowda, alleged political conspiracy. 'Why did the woman come forward only just before the elections, despite SIT inviting complaints earlier? EC doubles pay for BLOs involved in roll revision
. NEW DELHI: A day after asking its poll personnel in the field to ignore repeated threats and allegations by some opposition netas and continue working impartially, the Election Commission decided to reward the officers involved in electoral roll revision, reports Bharti Jain. For booth-level officers (BLOs), annual remuneration and incentive for roll revision stands doubled to Rs 12,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. These rates were last revised in 2015. BLOs will also get Rs 6,000 as special incentive for special intensive revision (SIR). The BLO supervisor will receive an annual remuneration of Rs 18,000 as against Rs 12,000, in force since 2015. EROs and assistant EROs, who did not get any honorarium so far, will now receive an honorarium of Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 each. Stating that pure electoral rolls are bedrock of democracy, EC Saturday commended the electoral roll machinery comprising EROs, Asst EROs, BLO supervisors and BLOs for doing "a lot or hard work" and playing "a pivotal role in preparation of transparent rolls". New Delhi: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his son Chaitanya Baghel have approached the Supreme Court, seeking the legal authority and jurisdiction of central investigative agencies-the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED)-in probing alleged irregularities linked to the multi-crore liquor scam in the state. The petition, according to reports, filed amid escalating political tensions, seeks clarity on whether the agencies have overstepped their mandate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and other statutes. The matter is scheduled for hearing on Monday before a bench comprising Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. The move comes days after Chaitanya Baghel was arrested by the ED in connection with a Rs 2,160 crore liquor scam that allegedly operated during Bhupesh Baghel's tenure as Chief Minister. The ED claims that a parallel liquor distribution network siphoned off massive sums through unaccounted sales and illegal commissions, implicating several political and bureaucratic figures. Bhupesh Baghel has publicly denounced the arrest and subsequent raids at his Bhilai residence, calling them politically motivated and designed to suppress dissent. "The ED is being used as a tool to target opposition leaders," Baghel said, alleging that the timing of the arrest-on his son's birthday-was symbolic of the Centre's vendetta politics. The Congress party has backed Baghel's stance, staging protests across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and other districts, accusing the BJP-led Centre of weaponising investigative agencies to intimidate political opponents. Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 18, 2025, which was also his birthday. The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into a Rs 2,160 crore liquor scam allegedly involving a nexus of politicians, bureaucrats, and liquor contractors operating during Bhupesh Baghel's tenure. ED officials conducted raids at the Baghel family residence in Bhilai, Durg district, early in the morning on July 18. Chaitanya was taken into custody under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED cited non-cooperation during the search as grounds for immediate arrest. Bhupesh Baghel publicly condemned the timing, calling it a "birthday gift" from the Central government and alleging political vendetta. The first ED raid at Bhupesh Baghel's Bhilai residence occurred on March 10, 2025. Baghel claimed that this earlier raid was timed to prevent him from participating in the state budget session, alleging that it was politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices. Between the March raid and the July arrest, Baghel stated that no formal notice or inquiry was issued to his son, raising questions about procedural fairness. The ED alleges that Chaitanya Baghel received Rs 16.70 crore in illicit funds and played a key role in laundering over Rs 1,000 crore through real estate and other channels. The case has since become a flashpoint in the broader debate over the use of central agencies against opposition leaders.
