Racial Justice, Mystery and a Lot of Ass Kicking in RZA's New Movie

RZA's new film One Spoon of Chocolate opens on a lonely stretch of Ohio highway. A handsome brother probably in his twenties is shooting phantom jump shots. A passing car of young white girls offers a lift. They leave laughing and flirting, his arms wrapped comfortably around two of them. But that seemingly harmless kindness is a setup: what happens next is brutal and chilling. They stop at a convenience store. The giggling girls ask him to buy them some snacks. When he exits the store, the girls are gone and he's pummeled by black hood wearing. bat-wielding white men. Blood seeps the asphalt. The next scene is even more horrific and from this vicious opening salvo, One Spoon of Chocolate plunges into Karensville—a small town that behind its quaint façade is teeming with racial violence, mystery and terror based on some 'real sh*t.'
'It's Get Out meets Rambo ,' says lead star Shameik Moore who most recently thrilled audiences in Spiderman. 'RZA is family. We've been working together for seven years. This one is art. This one is a very bold swing at being unapologetically Wu-Tang. Representing the culture in all the ways that we need it right now. It's exciting.
'It's about brotherhood,' reveals RZA. 'Redemption, which every man wishes he could find or is seeking it. And even more important, entertaining, provoking, and inspiring the audience is my mission. And I think this film does that.'
Blair Underwood who plays a parole office describes the film as 'a great action film, a vigilante film.' and Shameik as a 'beast.'

The movie is set in a modern yet timeless American rust belt, the film follows Unique (Shameik Moore), a wrongly convicted soldier newly released, as he seeks healing with his cousin, Ramsey (RJ Cyler). Instead, they discover an underbelly of horror and racism, a sheriff and his white paramilitary buddies terrorizing the Black youth—disappearances, ugliness, violence and a chilling mystery. Unique's martial arts come alive as he fights back, carving his own path of redemption.
True to RZA's signature style, the martial arts choreography blends old-school kung fu cinema with the raw intensity of modern street combat. The fight scenes are tightly staged and brutal, with Shameik Moore's Unique using fists, feet, and blades in battles that feel both artful and desperate. RZA worked with longtime collaborators from the Wu-Tang stunt team. Every punch, kick, and parry reflects Unique's inner struggle — as much about reclaiming dignity as defeating his enemies.

RZA first dropped hints in 2012 about a piece revolving around social unrest and martial art-cinema fusion. Over a decade later, production kicked off in April 2024 in Atlanta, with principal photography wrapping by July, spearheaded by a cast including Michael Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson, Blair Underwood, and Shameik Moore. The movie world finally got its first look at the Tribeca film festival this month. Radio/TV personality Jazmyn Summers was there for Radio One to bring you the tea.
RZA who won acclaim for The Man with the Iron Fists, says he's planning more films, 'If the universe allows it, I'll be making more movies for us. Movies are the culmination of all my art into one thing. Music is only now like a part of my brain. movies are my full brain,' he tells Summers.
RZA co-produced the film with Talani, his wife of 16 years. 'I asked my wife if we should build a new house or make a movie,' he discloses, 'She said 'what do you wanna do? I said make a movie and she said I got your back.'
The secret to their long loving marriage? 'We love each other and she is my best everything. Best friend. Best best best. That has to be the foundation,' he dishes.
As for bad habits, 'Bad habits. I think I got rid of them, 'he laughs.
Blair Underwood confesses his bad habits, 'Sweet sweets. My favorite candy is my wife, Josie,' he jokes.
Underwood says the secret to a strong marriage is, 'being great friends first and listening. I'm a better person today than I was two years ago… it's a lot of learning and listening and understanding.' He and wifey Josie Hart have been married two years.

Moore's bad habit is, 'I overthink a lot. I'm a Taurus.' And he invited the single ladies to come find him. 'But catch me in real life,' he warns 'not online'.
Cyler says his bad habit is 'Chewing gum. My wife don't like it because I smack when I chew,' he laughs,
Wendell Pierce who came to support the movie and will star in Superman as newspaper editor Perry White winked that his bad habit is a little naughty 'Ooh, I can't talk about that on any media platform but I don't do it with other people.'
One Spoon of Chocolate draws blood and emotion in equal measure—a visceral call to arms wrapped in familial bonds and modern relevance underlining that redemption is never just physical—it's deeply human. With this one, RZA proves he's not just making movies—he's building a legacy not just in music but in film.

Director Jon Watts Opens Up About Why He Left Marvel's THE FANTASTIC FOUR Project — GeekTyrant
Jon Watts is no stranger to big swings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He directed all three of Tom Holland's Spider-Man films, culminating with No Way Home , a global juggernaut that brought together multiple generations of Spider-Man and nearly hit the $2 billion mark. So when Marvel tapped him to reboot Fantastic Fou , it made sense. But just months before pre-production kicked into gear, Watts quietly stepped away, and now we know why. While speaking at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts finally opened up about the real reason he dropped out. It wasn't because of creative differences or a scheduling conflict. It was burnout, specifically, the kind brought on by trying to make No Way Home during peak pandemic chaos. Watts explained: 'The emotional strain of having to go through all of those COVID protocols while also trying to make something creative while also trying to make sure that your cast and crew were all safe — literally, people could've died if you did things wrong — that and the postproduction process was very difficult. 'When you're doing [visual effects work], there's a whole international component to it where you're using vendors from all over the world, and the supply chain had been interrupted because of COVID. It was really hard to get effects done in a traditional way.' Making a Marvel movie is already like steering a freight train through a needle, but doing it under strict health guidelines, that's a different beast entirely. And No Way Home wasn't just another sequel, it was a multiversal event with a sprawling cast, a visual effects gauntlet, and a story that had to emotionally land across three separate franchises. So by the time Marvel came calling again, Watts had to take stock of where he was mentally and creatively. 'I am out of gas. The COVID layer on top of making a giant movie layer, I knew I didn't have what it would've taken to make that movie great. I was just out of steam, so I just needed to take some time to recover. 'Everyone at Marvel totally understood. They had been through it with me as well, so they knew how hard and draining that experience has been; in the end, very satisfying, but at some point, if you can't do it at the level that you feel like you need to for it to be great, then it's better to not do it.' The pressure to always jump to the next big thing, especially when it's something as legacy-heavy as Fantastic Four, can be overwhelming. Watts prioritized his mental and creative health over momentum, which I can respect and appreciate. Since stepping away, Watts worked on the Star Wars series Skeleton Crew . Meanwhile, Matt Shakman ( WandaVision ) took the reins on Fantastic Four: First Steps , which finally hits theaters July 25. Watts says watching the film from the outside will be a 'totally surreal experience.' He won't be returning for the next Spider-Man either as Brand New Day , due in 2026, will be directed by Shang-Chi 's Destin Daniel Cretton, but most recently, he co-wrote and produced Final Destination: Bloodlines . Sometimes the best career move is knowing when to sit one out.

If Tobey Maguire's surprise appearance in the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home is any indication, it's that fans haven't yet let go of their love for the famed iteration of New York City's resident wallcrawler. Starring in a grand total of three well-received superhero films from 2002 to 2007, Maguire handed in one of the earliest popular portrayals of Marvel's Spider-Man, setting a remarkably high bar for later actors like Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. With the anniversary of the trilogy's conclusion looming on the horizon, fans can now rejoice at the possibility of seeing Maguire's Spider-Man series in theaters -- I.E., the optimal setting for experiencing Maguire's webslinger soaring through the streets of Manhattan. Beginning later this fall, all three films of director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series will see a limited re-release to theaters nationwide. The exciting event begins with the screening of Spider-Man on September 26, followed by an extended cut of Spider-Man 2 on September 27 and Spider-Man 3 on September 28. Following these initial screening dates, the Spider-Man trilogy will promptly return for an encore presentation the following weekend, playing through from October 3 to October 5. If that weren't exciting enough, as mentioned above, this new retrospective of the Spider-Man trilogy will come with an extended cut of 2004's fan-favorite Spider-Man 2. Often hailed as the strongest entry in the trilogy (as well as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made), this new version of the film has been dubbed Spider-Man 2.1, with several scenes added back into the film that were originally left on the cutting room floor. "The success of Spider-Man in 2002 helped launch the modern era of superhero films," said Ray Nutt, chief executive officer of Fathom Entertainment, who will oversee screenings of the trilogy. "To this day, Tobey Maguire's take on Spider-Man resonates across generations. At Fathom Entertainment, we celebrate fandom and I am delighted that Spider-Man 2.1 in 4K will make its theatrical debut, a true gift for longtime fans and a thrilling discovery for new ones.' The ‘Spider-Man 2' Extended Edition Is Finally Swinging Into Theaters
Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy is heading back into theaters once more, but this time things will look slightly different for the webslinger. For the first time, the home-release exclusive extended edition of Spider-Man 2 will be part of the theatrical release. Today Fathom Events announced that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films will return to theaters for a limited time beginning September 26. All three movies will screen in 4K, but for the first time, the version of Spider-Man 2 hitting theaters is actually the 2007 extended cut of the film. Put out on DVD in 2007 in the run-up to Spider-Man 3's release, Spider-Man 2.1 features eight minutes of new footage integrated into the theatrical cut, extending multiple sequences in the film while also including a few brand-new scenes and alternate takes. Including, yes, that deleted scene of J. Jonah Jameson putting on the Spidey suit in his office to strike a few poses. The 2.1 cut has been available on home release ever since, including the Blu-ray releases of the trilogy, but the new theatrical run will mark the first time fans get to actually see it on the big screen. Maybe it'll make the wait for Brand New Day go a little quicker? Tickets for the Spider-Man trilogy are available starting July 25 through Fathom Events, with screenings of the trilogy taking place on September 26, 27, and 28, and with a follow-up run on October 3, 4, and 5.
