Bóka: Péter Magyar's platform is being drafted in Brussels
János Bóka, Hungary's EU affairs minister, said on Tuesday that another chapter has been added to opposition Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar's platform in Brussels in the form of the document entitled 'Rule-of-law Recommendations', adding that the document was 'nothing more than a politically-motivated order for Magyar'.
In a post on Facebook, Minister Bóka said the aim of the recommendations was for 'foreign-funded so-called civil groups to be given free rein to conduct political activities in Hungary, for which they could receive an unlimited amount of foreign funding in an uncontrolled manner'.
The minister said the aim was also for 'foreign-funded media' to receive public funding, and for 'smear campaigns against right-wing politicians and public figures to become an institutionalised practice based on the Polish model'.
'This is not about the protection of the rule of law, but about institutionalised political pressure,' he said.
'Brussels has also drafted Péter Magyar's economic policy programme in advance; these are the European Semester recommendations,' Minister Bóka said
He said Brussels wanted to scrap Hungary's regulated utilities price scheme, the interest rate freeze and the mandatory caps on markups. Brussels also wanted Hungary to phase out home creation subsidies, scrap taxes on excessive corporate profits and tax refunds on diesel fuel for farmers, he added.
'The aim is to draft an economic policy that serves Brussels's expectations against the interests of the Hungarian people,' Minister Bóka said.
He said Brussels had made it clear that 'Magyar can say whatever he wants in the campaign, but Ukraine has to be admitted to the European Union before 2030', regardless of what the European people may think about this and what consequences this may have for Europe.
'Magyar's platform is being drafted in Brussels,' Minister Bóka said. 'It goes by many names — recommendation, reform, report — but the essence is always the same: they want to control Hungary from Brussels through a puppet government.'

He also cited her as saying that Ukraine was delivering on the reforms expected of the country in connection with its bid to become a member of the EU. He said the commission was 'very clear' and 'Ukraine is ready to open' the first chapters concerning core values. Orbán also pointed out that von der Leyen concluded her speech with the cry 'Slava, Ukraini, long live Europe!'.

Orbán: A country in which forced conscription could lead to death cannot be member of EU
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in an interview with public radio that the Hungarian-Ukrainian dual citizen who was beaten to death in Ukraine during forced conscription is one of us. 'This must be taken seriously,' he said. 'The victim belongs to our community, not only in the cultural and national sense of the word but also in terms of public law,' he added. PM Orbán dismissed the 'cautious wording' of news reports, declaring that the deceased had not simply met his fate due to forced conscription but was 'beaten to death'. 'This is a case that we must investigate,' he said, adding that the victim's family must be taken care of and the Ukrainian authorities questioned. 'This is all underway.' The deceased, he said, had lived 15-20-30kms from the Hungarian border, 'and was beaten to death there'. The prime minister also warned that 'we live in an age of dangers', adding that every decision and every word 'can have significance here'. PM Orbán said that in light of this, the government's Vote 2025 survey on Ukraine's EU membership had been 'justified joint action' on the part of Hungarians. He said a country in which forced conscription could lead to death 'cannot be a member of the European Union', as integrating the country would be to integrate the war 'and all its consequences'. The prime minister dismissed a statement made by the Ukrainian Land Forces Command that the victim had not died due to abuse. 'This explanation isn't at all satisfactory,' he said. He said the war 'cannot be won', and diplomacy rather than prolonged fighting on the frontline should determine its settlement. PM Orbán said no one had the courage to concede that Ukraine had essentially 'lost this war and Europe has also lost this war alongside Ukraine. Instead, they're acting like this war can be won…' 'Diplomacy, a ceasefire and peace negotiations are needed,' he added. PM Orbán also said he rejected taking out an EU loan to finance Ukraine, saying: 'I will oppose this right to the very end.' The European economy, he said, had lost its competitiveness and was suffering, paying 3-4 times as much for gas and 2-3 times as much for electricity as its competitors. So while raising a loan 'is problematic in itself, there's no need to give that money to someone else', he said. 'Europe should spend it on itself' to restore its economy, he added.

FM: American tariffs increase proves incompetence of Brussels leadership
Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the new increases of US tariffs against the European Union also prove the incompetence of the leadership in Brussels, and it would be time for a patriotic turnaround. In a post on social media on Saturday, United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the European Union will face a 30 percent tariff on imports to the US from August 1. Hungary's foreign ministry in a statement quoted Minister Szijjártó that the measure taken by the United States is further evidence of the total incompetence of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EC. 'This incompetence has already caused a lot of damage and trouble for Europe in recent years, and now here is another failure: Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission were unable to negotiate a favourable tariff agreement with the US administration, and once again the European economy, European companies and European people are suffering,' Minister Szijjártó said. 'We called it in time, we told what should have been done: EU tariffs on the United States should have been reduced immediately after Donald Trump took office. Ursula von der Leyen and the Commission did not do this, and we, Europeans, once again suffer for it,' he said. 'It's time for change in Brussels: patriots should finally replace the likes of von der Leyen,' the minister said.
