Yahoo17 hours ago
Both Meta Platforms META and Reddit RDDT are major players in the social media domain. Meta Platforms owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, serving over 3.4 billion daily userswhile Reddit focuses on community discussions with 108.1 million daily users. Both the stocks generate majority of their revenues from advertising.Per a report by The Business Research Company, the global social media advertising market is expected to grow from $228.18 billion in 2024 to $406.64 billion in 2029, indicating a CAGR of 12.25%. Both companies are heavily investing in AI to enhance their respective advertising capabilities and user experiences. Meta Platforms has deployed AI across its recommendation systems and launched Meta AI with nearly a billion monthly users, while Reddit has integrated AI-powered search through Reddit Answers and improved content recommendation systems. However, META or RDDT, which has an edge right now? Let's delve deepto find out.
Reddit is benefiting from strong growth in user engagement, including rising daily and weekly active users, ARPU gains and expanding advertiser tools like DPA, Reddit Pixel and CAPI. Reddit's AI-powered features, including Reddit Answers, are key catalysts in enhancing content discovery and personalization. Reddit Answers has more than one million weekly users. Reddit aims to deepen advertiser onboarding and improve campaign outcomes through integrations with Smartly.io and Meta Platforms' campaign import tool.Reddit expects revenues between $410 million and $430 million for the second quarter of 2025, indicating 46-53% year-over-year growth. AI-led product development is improving platform experience and scale. The company hosts a data trove that becomes the foundation of large language model training. Reddit's platform has more than 100,000 active subreddits, with over 500 subreddits that each have at least one million subscribers. Investments in AI have improved new user onboarding and driven engagement with existing users. Internally developed models are powering feed ranking, onboarding, translation and moderation.Reddit's growth appears less stable despite recent strong performances. While the company reported its third straight quarter of more than 60% revenue growth in first-quarter 2025, several concerns limit its prospects. The platform depends heavily on Google search traffic for new users, making it vulnerable to changes in search algorithms that Reddit cannot control. The platform's community-based model, while unique, makes it harder to grow quickly compared to automated content systems Reddit's subscription services and tools for content creators remain underdeveloped, limiting ways to diversify revenue. The company's advertising technology is less advanced than Meta Platforms and Google, which may hurt its ability to keep advertisers and run effective campaigns in the competitive digital advertising market.
Meta Platforms continues to show strong performance across its ecosystem, supported by deep AI integration and a broad user base. Upgrades to its recommendation systems have led to a 7% increase in time spent on Facebook and 6% on Instagram over the past six months. Meta AI now reaches nearly one billion monthly users, underscoring the platform's ability to scale new experiences across products. The advertising business remains the core revenue engine. AI-powered improvements have boosted conversion rates by 5% in Facebook Reels. More advertisers are adopting Meta's creative tools, making campaign development faster and more accessible. WhatsApp's push into business messaging, especially in emerging markets, is expected to open additional revenue streams. The company recently announced features to the Ads Manager that enable businesses to manage their marketing strategy across WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Businesses can now upload their subscriber list and either manually select marketing messages as an additional placement or use Advantage+. META's AI system will then optimize budgets across placements to maximize performance. Ads Manager will help businesses in creating ads in Status once the feature is available. Meta Platforms is planning to introduce Business AI that can make personalized product recommendations and facilitate sales on any business' website. Over a WhatsApp chat, the Business AI can also follow up with customers to answer questions and provide updates. Moreover, Meta Platforms plans to launch calling and voice options for large businesses that use the WhatsApp Business Platform, thereby strengthening the relationship between businesses and customers.

Pixel 10 series FCC filing confirms connectivity features, hints at Samsung modem

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR The Google Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro XL have passed through the FCC website. Both phones apparently have satellite support, and there are hints of a Samsung modem once again. Meanwhile, the Pro version has Thread and UWB support while the standard model misses these features. Google is expected to launch the Pixel 10 series in the coming weeks, and we've already seen a steady stream of leaks. However, the latest leak comes via the company's own regulatory filings. The Pixel 10 (model number GLBWO, GL066, GK2MP), Pixel 10 Pro (G4QUR), and Pixel 10 Pro XL (GUL82) passed through the FCC website this week, revealing a few details about the phones. Starting with the XL model, the FCC filing confirms features like wireless charging, Wi-Fi 6E, Thread support, and UWB. However, we also have evidence that the company is indeed using a Samsung modem. The Pixel 10 Pro's listing also confirms all of these features and hints at a Samsung modem. Meanwhile, the standard Pixel 10 filing mentions connectivity features like wireless charging and Wi-Fi 6E. However, Google's vanilla phone doesn't seem to offer Thread or UWB connectivity. We see evidence of a Samsung-made modem here, too. All three Pixel filings also mention satellite functionality, also known as NTN (non-terrestrial network) connectivity. This wouldn't be a surprise as the Pixel 9 series offers satellite connectivity. Check out the screenshots below. Pixel 10 Pixel 10 Pro Pixel 10 Pro XL These aren't the only recent Pixel 10 series leaks. A trusted outlet recently revealed EU pricing for the phones, and it looks like Europeans aren't getting a price hike this year. Leaked specs also suggest bigger batteries for the standard and XL models. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Google inks $3B deal to buy hydropower from Brookfield

As it races to build ever larger data centers, Google on Tuesday said it has agreed to pay more than $3 billion to source carbon-free hydropower from Brookfield Asset Management's company, Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners. The first contracts under the deal include 20-year power purchase agreements, the companies said, altogether amounting to $3 billion, for 670 megawatts of capacity from two hydropower plants in Pennsylvania. The deal is part of a broader framework agreement that will allow Google to source up to 3 gigawatts of capacity in total. The deal comes as Google and its hyperscaler rivals, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft, seek to source power for their seemingly ever-expanding data centers that they use to house, train, and host the AI tools that underpin the tech sector's current boom. This renewed demand for power has breathed new life into nuclear energy, boosted gas generation, and brought back focus on renewable energy. Google itself has committed tens of billions to making sure it won't run out of power; Meta more or less bought a nuclear plant; and Microsoft has struck a deal to source power for 20 years from a nuclear plant next to another one that melted down nearly 50 years ago. Power aside, renewable energy also presents an attractive opportunity for these companies to continue working towards their net-zero targets even as their burgeoning data centers add to their carbon emissions. Brookfield Renewable Partners, which operates renewable energy plants in the U.S., said its two hydropower facilities in Pennsylvania, Holtwood and Safe Harbor, will be relicensed, upgraded, or overhauled to meet the new requirements. 'This collaboration with Brookfield is a significant step forward, ensuring clean energy supply in the PJM region where we operate. Hydropower is a proven, low-cost technology, offering dependable, homegrown, carbon-free electricity that creates jobs and builds a stronger grid for all,' Amanda Peterson Corio, head of data center energy at Google, said in a statement.

Trump tax law quietly takes aim at popular perk: office snacks

The SkinnyPop in the break room may not last. Donald Trump is targeting the office snack. The president's signature tax law allows a long-standing business deduction for the cost of food provided to employees to expire, imperiling a workplace perk popularized during Silicon Valley's dot-com boom that is now an emblem of modern office culture. A well-stocked pantry is now a staple at Wall Street banks, among other places. US companies that continue to provide office snacks, coffee or on-site lunches will see them taxed after Dec. 31, when the deduction will be eliminated. The tax change gained little attention as the sprawling, nearly 1,000-page legislation moved through Congress and it isn't yet clear how companies will respond. A spokesperson for Goldman Sachs Group Inc., which provides employees $30 stipends for "out of hours" meals and a pantry stocked with complementary coffee and snacks, declined to comment on what the company will do when the tax deduction ends. So did a spokesperson for Meta Platforms Inc., another company known for employees' ready access to free food and coffee. Spokespeople for for Alphabet Inc.'s Google didn't respond to requests for comment. Far from Wall Street and Silicon Valley, Alaska's fishing industry was spared from higher-cost noshes. The state's fishermen earned a carve-out in a bid to keep Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski's support for the overall bill, which squeaked by only with Vice President JD Vance casting a tie-breaking vote. No such luck for Maine's lobstermen, whose senator, Republican Susan Collins, didn't vote for the legislation. Restaurants will also be able to deduct the cost of employee meals, a long-standing tradition for kitchen and wait staff. But that will no longer be the case for most other employers, including factories and hospitals, many of which also offer workers free or subsidized meals or snacks. Eliminating the deduction is projected to raise $32 billion in additional taxes on employers through 2034, according to Congress's Joint Committee on Taxation. Free food has become broadly entrenched in workplaces, with 44% of US employers now providing free snacks, double the rate a decade ago, according to surveys conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management. Free office pantries and cafes have been celebrated in recent decades for encouraging employees to work longer hours, boosting morale and sparking creative collaboration through chance encounters. Google co-founder Sergey Brin has been widely quoted as instructing his office designers to assure no employee was more than 200 feet away from food. Trump's 2017 tax law halved the deduction for employer-provided food and scheduled it for elimination at the end of this year, as the administration sought to lower that law's budget impact when a host of breaks expired Dec. 31. The new tax legislation Trump signed on July 4 rolled back most of the year-end scheduled tax increases but maintained elimination of office snack-deduction, except for the Alaska and restaurant carveouts. Still, Ali Sabeti, chief executive officer of ZeroCater Inc., a San Francisco-based corporate catering company whose more than 1,000 clients include major banks and tech companies such as Roku Inc. - said he doesn't expect to lose business as a result. The catering company didn't lose clients in 2017, when the deduction was reduced to 50%, he said. "It's pretty inelastic," Sabeti said. "When you take a tax deduction away, the cost is going to go up, but companies will continue to spend, just like if you took away a deduction on a laptop."
