BSNL posts Rs 280 crore Q4 profit, second straight quarter in green after 18 years
The turnaround comes a year after the company posted a loss of Rs 849 crore in the same quarter.
'For the first time in 18 years, back-to-back quarterly profits, net profits, not just operating margins, for the second time running after 2007,' Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said while addressing reporters.
BSNL had posted a profit after tax of Rs 262 crore in the October-December quarter of FY25. The company's cumulative loss for the full financial year has now narrowed sharply to Rs 2,247 crore, from Rs 5,370 crore in FY24.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A Robert J Ravi attributed the performance to 'professional management, government support and relentless focus on both the top line and the bottom line.'
'BSNL is not just being revived, but redefined,' Ravi said, adding that the company is focused on cost discipline and accelerating 4G and 5G deployments to maintain momentum.
'We will not be chasing profits as our end goal. We will be redefining telecom excellence in public service.

BSNL's operating revenue rose 7.8% year-on-year to Rs 20,841 crore in FY25, up from Rs 19,330 crore in the previous year.
The Ministry of Communications noted that while profitability could moderate in the short term due to increased capital expenditure and spectrum investments, the long-term outlook remains strong. It cited nationwide 4G/5G rollouts using indigenous equipment, network-as-a-service initiatives, and backhaul fibre upgrades as key drivers of future growth.
The ministry also highlighted BSNL's ongoing asset monetisation programme, which nearly doubled its proceeds last year and is expected to generate additional funds to support infrastructure expansion.

Visa boost for desi professionals, chefs in trade agreement
NEW DELHI: Independent professionals as well as business visitors, company executives and investors can expect a more predictable visa regime to the United Kingdom once the trade deal signed Thursday is implemented. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement seeks to "lock in" business mobility rules for Indian business visitors attending meetings and conferences, experienced employees, graduate trainees, investors, as well as musicians, chefs and yoga teachers. The British govt will, however, closely monitor eligibility norms to avoid a large influx. For instance, senior executives of service sector companies with branches in India and UK will get visas for three years. Contractual service providers across more sectors will be eligible for business visas of up to 12 months. Govt sources said the UK has agreed not to impose numerical limits on Indian business mobility and won't require Indian companies to advertise locally before applying for these visas. Last year, the UK granted 25,117 visas under the Global Business Mobility route. Sarma launches infra projects worth Rs 504 crore at DU, AMCH

The comprehensive development programme encompasses two of the region's premier educational institutions, with Dibrugarh University receiving projects worth Rs 147 crore, while AMCH benefiting from a massive Rs 357 crore investment involving residential and academic infrastructure. "This is a historic day for the people of Dibrugarh. With these projects at Dibrugarh University and AMCH we have taken one step forward in our endeavour to establish Dibrugarh as the second capital of Assam. These projects will transform Dibrugarh University and AMCH into premier institutions with world-class facilities. Our govt is committed to providing students and faculty with an environment conducive to learning, research and holistic development," CM Sarma said. The CM's Special Grant will fund several critical infrastructural projects, including a girls' hostel block accommodating 324 students, 16 new housing quarters for faculty and staff, extensive repair and extension of internal roads, a modern sports complex and a fully equipped gymnasium. Under the PM-USHA scheme, the university will receive additional student accommodation through a girls' hostel block with 176 beds, along with academic infrastructure, including a six-storied academic building and a three-storied research centre. Later in the day, the CM laid the foundation for residential and hostel facilities at AMCH worth Rs 357 crore. The project will be executed by the public works (health & education) department and will come up on the 504 bigha AMCH campus. The project includes extensive faculty accommodation, with two residential blocks housing 40 senior faculty flats and three blocks providing 60 junior faculty residences. Special quarters for the principal, vice-principals and medical superintendent have also been planned as part of the housing scheme. Student accommodation will see substantial expansion with the construction of multiple hostel blocks, catering to different categories of students and staff. The plan includes a 500-capacity female MBBS hostel, a 225-bed male MBBS facility and separate postgraduate hostels accommodating 232 female and 200 male students.
