BNPL Service Providers Urged To Practise Self-regulation
Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the approach was needed pending the introduction of a more comprehensive law.
'My advice to platform owners is to ensure their platforms are used responsibly and with integrity, as the e-commerce law has yet to be tabled in Parliament.
'For now, let us self-regulate, protect consumers, and foster a positive culture,' she said after the Closing Ceremony of the TikTok Shop Summit and the 2025 Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign here today.
Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying was previously reported to have said that BNPL transactions increased to 102.6 million in the first half of this year, compared with 83.8 million in the second half of 2024.
According to Lim, the surge in BNPL transactions had exposed consumers, particularly low-income earners and those with low financial literacy, to the risk of unmanageable debts.
Meanwhile, commenting on the one-off RM100 cash aid for citizens aged 18 and above, Fuziah said it can only be used at designated outlets under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme to prevent misuse.
She said enforcement would be carried out continuously to prevent price hikes at the outlets involved.
'Aid recipients must use their identity card to make purchases at any of the 4,100 designated outlets nationwide and are only allowed to buy listed items to prevent misuse of the funds.

Kuching-Pontianak Direct Route Provides Flexibility, Convenience For Travellers
KUCHING, July 26 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the Kuching-Pontianak route, scheduled to commence on Sept 12 and operate twice daily, would provide greater flexibility and convenience for travellers from both sides of the border. In a statement today, he said the opening of these air routes was not just a milestone in aviation, but also a testament to the strong historical, cultural, and familial ties shared by the people. 'It will boost tourism, trade, education and social linkages, especially among border communities,' he said. According to him, the Sarawak government appreciated the Indonesian government's move to reopen Supadio Airport in Pontianak for international flights, which is a strategic air route connecting Kuching and Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan. He said he was formally invited to attend the launch, but was unable to be present due to prior official commitments, and delivered a pre-recorded video message to show his full support. 'I wish to first extend my sincere apologies for not being able to attend today's very special event. 'Nonetheless, I am truly delighted and would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Sarawak Tourism Board for the successful organisation of the Sarawak Travel Fair in Pontianak,' he said in the message. Sara recipients can shop at over 470 premises in Sabah

RANAU: A total of 470 supermarket and grocery premises in Sabah are now part of the 4,152 nationwide outlets where Sara recipients can use their MyKad to purchase basic necessities. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said his Ministry is also exploring ways for the Sara aid to be used at Rahmah Madani Sales programmes (PJRM), especially in remote areas. As of July this year, RM410 million has been channelled to 830,000 STR recipients in Sabah, while RM500 million has reached 506,000 Sara recipients. Armizan, who is also Papar MP, announced this during the KPDN Carnival Tour and Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign 2025 for the Sabah Zone, held here from July 25 to 27.
