Former Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle recently shared his thoughts on rookie tight end Tyler Warren.
Doyle sat down with Jeffrey Gorman on the latest episode of 'High Volume,' and the two discussed a variety of topics, including Doyle's initial impression of Warren.
Doyle also spent time with JJ Stankevitz to break down Warren's 17-catch performance last season against USC. As GM Chris Ballard noted after the draft, this particular game told the Colts everything they needed to know about Warren during the pre-draft process.
In that game, Warren caught 17-of-20 passes for 224 yards with one touchdown. He rushed the ball once in that game as well.
'He is just a stud," Doyle said of Warren. "I mean, an all-around tight end. Obviously, I'm biased to the tight end position, but the willingness to block, his body control, his balance, his run after catch, the dragging guys four, five yards. Getting 10 yards after a seven-yard catch that saves your team from getting another first down. It's huge and maybe something you don't notice when you're a casual fan just watching, but being able to not make your team convert more first downs, that's good. We want to get yards.
Doyle continued: "And a tight end just helps a quarterback get in rhythm. It builds confidence. So, usually easier throws. Get him the ball early, make some rhythm throws, I think it's gonna be a good thing for the Colts.'
Warren totaled over 100 receptions and over 1,200 receiving yards for Penn State in 2024. He will immediately provide the Colts' passing game with a needed boost and has already been a favorite target during offseason programs.
Stephen Holder, who covers the Colts for ESPN, wrote recently that it was "practically impossible to watch an Indianapolis practice and not notice how often Warren touched the football."
However, Warren's impact within the offense will go well beyond the passing game. As Doyle mentions, he's an "all-around tight end." Warren has the versatility to line up across the formation and is a capable run blocker. That do-it-all presence at tight end adds some unpredictability to an offense with that player able to fill so many roles and the flexibility it then provides Shane Steichen as a play caller.

Lincoln Riley's Cryptic Six-Word Reaction to Future of USC, Notre Dame Rivalry Debate
Lincoln Riley's Cryptic Six-Word Reaction to Future of USC, Notre Dame Rivalry Debate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The long-standing rivalry between college football powerhouses USC and Notre Dame is tenuously hanging on for dear life in recent weeks. Both schools have expressed varying interest in continuing the rivalry which dates back to 1926, nearly 100 years; however, there's been little forward progress on solidifying an upcoming schedule. Advertisement The Trojans and Fighting Irish will compete for the Jeweled Shillelagh, the trophy given to the winner every year, on Oct. 18. However, there is nothing on tap between the two schools in 2026 and beyond. USC head coach Lincoln Riley was asked for comment about the rivalry by On3's Pete Nakos and the 41-year-old coach's empty response only adds to the mystery. "We will at the appropriate time," said Riley when pushed for a statement. USC associate athletic director Cody Worsham pushed the narrative that the Trojans want the rivalry to continue in an article from college football insider Pat Forde. Advertisement 'We want the USC–Notre Dame rivalry to continue, which is why we offered an extension of our agreement,' said Worsham. 'It's a special game to our fans and our institution. We will continue to work with Notre Dame on scheduling future games.' A week ago, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was more plainspoken in responding for comment about the rivalry. 'It's a great rivalry for all of college football,' Freeman said. 'If it was up to me, we would play them every single year for the rest of college football time.' Advertisement Notre Dame leads the all-time series 50-37-5. The Irish have won six of the last seven matchups against USC. No. 1 Recruiting Class Gets Major 4th of July News
No. 1 Recruiting Class Gets Major 4th of July News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The USC Trojans already have the No. 1 recruiting class for the 2026 cycle. With 31 commitments, 10 of which appear in On3's top 100 player rankings, coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans are hitting on all cylinders. Advertisement On Friday, that top class got a whole better with a pledge from four-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster. The DeSoto, Texas, native delivered 57 receptions for 824 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. With more than 50 offers from competing programs, Feaster chose the Trojans over LSU, Texas A&M, Miami and Alabama, where he also took official visits over the last two months. In detailing why USC would be his destination, Feaster spoke on the offense and how he believes he will find success with the Trojans. 'With USC, you know they will have a great quarterback throwing their receivers the call with Lincoln Riley as the head coach,' said Feaster. 'I love the coaching staff, I love the city around it, I love L.A., and it's a great place to be in. And Coach Simmons, that's my guy.' With Feaster, four-stars Trent Mosley, Luc Weaver and Roderick Tezeno, and three-star Ja'Myron Baker, the Trojans now have five receiver commitments in this class. Passing the ball wasn't the issue last season at USC, as the team finished 10th in passing yards by averaging 291.9 yards per game. The Trojans finished with a 145.3 rushing yards per game average, 82nd in the country. That imbalance led to the offense generating 30.2 points per game, ranking 50th. Packers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands $31 Million Pass Rusher
Packers Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands $31 Million Pass Rusher originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With less than three weeks until training camp begins, General Manager Brian Gutekunst still has time to make a few final additions before the Green Bay Packers resume team activities. Still, that should not stop him from seeking upgrades during the preseason if the right opportunity comes along. Advertisement If the Packers were to make any additional acquisitions, they would most likely come on the defensive side of the ball. The team did a solid job this offseason of surrounding quarterback Jordan Love with more talent—both in the receiving corps and along the offensive line. However, on defense, there is still a noticeable void: the Packers lack a true No. 1 cornerback and are missing a superstar-caliber pass rusher to anchor the defensive line. Green Bay is betting on internal growth, trusting that Jeff Hafley and DeMarcus Covington can elevate the defense through development. Still, it would not hurt to explore a few additional options—whether on the free-agent market or via potential trades with other NFL teams. With that in mind, AtoZ Sports writer Wendell Ferreira, along with Colts beat writer Destin Adams and Saints beat reporter Adam Holt, proposed a blockbuster three-team trade involving the Packers, Giants, and Raiders. New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux (5) warms up before a game against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium.© John Jones-Imagn Images The proposed trade terms are as follows: Advertisement Packers receive: Edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux Raiders receive: Wide receiver Romeo Doubs Giants receive: Tight end Michael Mayer and a 4th-round pick from Green Bay Wendell then explained why the trade makes sense for Green Bay, highlighting that Kayvon Thibodeaux's profile aligns well with the type of player Brian Gutekunst typically targets. "The Packers didn't invest much in the edge defender position this offseason, despite underwhelming production from the group in 2024. Even though general manager Brian Gutekunst is not exactly aggressive in the trade market, Kayvon Thibodeaux is the type of player he would consider," Wendell wrote. "The edge rusher is young, plays at a premium position, is a former top-5 pick, and has a track record of solid production in the NFL. The Packers would absorb $4.978 million in 2025 and $14.751 million in 2026, which is an excellent value." Wendell also pointed out Romeo Doubs' contract situation, noting that it could influence Green Bay's decision to include him in a trade package. "Parting ways with Romeo Doubs might not be an easy decision, but he's entering the final year of his rookie deal, the Packers haven't wanted to give him an early extension, and his ceiling is limited," he wrote. "To make things fair, Green Bay would also send the Giants a fourth-round pick, but that's still a great net value to the roster." Advertisement Kayvon Thibodeaux recorded 21 sacks and 121 pressures in his first three seasons with the Giants. In 2024, New York traded for Brian Burns and then selected Abdul Carter third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. While Thibodeaux should still see some playing time in New York, the significant investments in Burns and Carter—both projected starters—could create a scenario where Thibodeaux becomes available for trade.
