Lewis Capaldi 'blown away' by response to new song after topping the charts

The Glasgow-born singer has enjoyed a remarkable comeback to the music scene in recent weeks. Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has expressed his astonishment at the overwhelming response to his latest single, marking a triumphant return to the music scene. The 28-year-old's new track, Survive, shot to the top of the charts this week, securing the Number 1 spot. According to the Official Charts, the song has garnered over four million streams in its debut week. ‌ That marks the largest opening week of any Number 1 single in 2025 thus far. The accomplishment is the latest milestone in Capaldi's remarkable comeback, which has included a surprise performance at Glastonbury. ‌ The Glasgow-born artist also made an appearance at a Swiss music festival and has announced a comeback tour, with scheduled dates at the Hydro and P&J Live in Aberdeen later this year. The talent will also play shows in London, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Nottingham, Cardiff, and Dublin. Taking to Instagram, the Forget Me chanter expressed his gratitude, stating he has been "absolutely blown away" by the response and "cannot thank everyone enough". In a video message, he added: "I just wanted to do a video to say thank you to every single person who has streamed, downloaded, and bought a physical copy of Survive this week. "We are number 1 in the UK, it's the fastest-selling song in the UK this year. ‌ "I'm over the moon to be back doing what I love doing, and thanks to you we're back at number 1. "I'll see you all soon. Love you. Bye." ‌ Thousands of people rushed to the comment section to congratulate the Someone You Loved singer on the feat, including some famous faces. Liverpool musician Jamie Webster commented: "Good to have you back lad. Congratulations." Sonny Jay, Capital Late Show Host and Dancing on ice 2021 champion, scribed: "What a man". ‌ Meanwhile, rapper Professor Green and TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson posted red love heart emojis in support. X Factor duo Jedward also made their feelings known, writing: "Always number 1 in our hearts". Last weekend, Capaldi performed a 35-minute set at Glastonbury's Pyramid stage, two years after struggling to manage his Tourette syndrome symptoms while singing on the same stage. ‌ The condition causes you to make sudden, repetitive sounds or movements and while there is no cure, treatment can help manage the tics, according to the NHS website. Introducing Survive at the festival, Capaldi became visibly emotional as he said: 'The last two years haven't been the best for me, it's been difficult at times... This has been my f****** goal, to get back here." ‌ Speaking to Official Charts, Capaldi thanked fans who had streamed and downloaded Survive, saying it "really means the world". "I've been away for a little while, and to come back to this outpouring of love and support has been absolutely incredible," he said. "I can't thank everybody enough for all the kind words since Glastonbury – and now this. "It's been the best week of my life." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Strictly's Rachel Riley takes drastic action before TV show where 'anything can happen'

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Rachel Riley has confessed that she "wrote my will" prior to participating in a new reality TV programme which involves celebrities plunging into shark-infested waters. The 39 year old Countdown host joins a star-studded cast including Sir Lenny Henry, McFly's Dougie Poynter, actress Lucy Punch and Call the Midwife's Helen George in Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, set to broadcast on ITV on Monday, July 14. Rachel revealed that her trip to the Bahamas prompted her to ensure "everything is signed". Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said: "I wrote my will before we went. This trip made me want to make sure everything was signed, just in case. They're wild animals. You're scuba diving. Anything can happen," reports Devon Live. The Countdown maths genius has two children with her husband Pasha Kovalev. The couple first met when they were partnered on Strictly in 2013, and were the fifth pair to be eliminated. (Image: Getty Images) Their daughters Noa and Maven are only three and five years old respectively. Rachel admitted that she didn't inform her children about what she was going to do because she didn't want to frighten them. The airing of the show has been timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's iconic Jaws film, which premiered on June 20, 1975. At the time of its release, the film was the highest grossing movie in history and was considered a landmark moment in cinema due to its music and editing. The series' synopsis describes how celebrities "first-hand experiences will provide immeasurable excitement and new perspective; they'll come to appreciate sharks' valuable place on the food chain and in our ecosystem, recognising that a world devoid of these notoriously terrifying creatures is downright frightening". Rachel confesses to being quite trusting and believes the TV producers wouldn't have put the contestants in harm's way. (Image: Alan Chapman/Dave Benett/Getty I) She shared with the Mail: "I've got quite a rational brain so the way there I was thinking: 'How can they get insurance for this unless it's safe? How bad could it be?' "Also, I'm quite trusting. But then Paul, who's been through the worst thing that could possibly happen, was like: 'No, don't be complacent, these are real sharks.' The killer instinct was never far from the surface." Paul de Gelder, a former Navy diver, lost a limb in a shark attack in Sydney Harbour, Australia. He has since become an advocate for shark conservation. Rachel's television career took off when she secured the role as Carol Vorderman's replacement on Countdown in 2009, beating out 1,000 applicants. She also hosts the comedy spin-off, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Lewis Capaldi sends emotional message to fans at Noah Kahan concert

Lewis Capaldi is back in the spotlight, where he belongs (Image: Getty Images) Lewis Capaldi sent a tear-jerking message to fans at Noah Kahan's gig in Hyde Park last night. The Scottish star, 28, who brought the house down singing Northern Attitude with Kahan - who has been vocal about his own mental health journey - is now back where he belongs after taking a break from the spotlight following a difficult few years. Following his glittering return to Glastonbury last week after taking time out to focus on his mental health and 'adjust' to his Tourette's diagnosis after he was left unable to finish his set back at Worthy Farm in 2023, Lewis told fans - who had no idea he would be performing at BST - he was glad to be back. Thanking the audience for their "outpouring of love", he continued: "I've been away for a little while and to come back to this outpouring of love and support has been absolutely incredible. "I can't thank everybody enough for all the kind words since Glastonbury - and now this! It's been the best week of my life. I hope you continue to enjoy the song, it means a lot to me." After bringing fans to tears at Glastonbury last week, Lewis has shifted a whopping 68,500 Survive records in its first week, including more than four million streams, surpassing the much-loved singer's previous best of 56,000 with the 2022 song Forget Me. The musician, who has spoken openly about having been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, heartbreakingly had to pull out of Glastonbury two years ago as he told fans: "I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order." Noah played Northern Attitude with Lewis (Image: Getty) Lewis issued an update later that year in which he said: "I'm currently taking some time off to focus on my health and wellbeing and it's been going great!" Following his epic comeback last week, it has now been announced that Lewis will embark on a UK and Ireland tour later this year. The news was shared on June 30 and it's been revealed that the star will perform ten shows in cities including Manchester and Glasgow. The new tour, which will be Lewis' first headline tour in more than two years, will kick off in Sheffield on September 7 and is scheduled to conclude in Dublin on September 29. The Hold Me While You Wait star will visit a host of other cities in between those two dates, including two nights at the O2 in London. He will also visit venues in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham and Cardiff.
