PVL: Erika Santos' 30-point explosion carries Cignal to QF; Creamline halts Chery Tiggo
The power-hitting opposite spiker erupted for a career-high 30 points to go with eight digs as the HD Spikers improved to 4-1 and clinched a quarterfinals spot in the preseason showcase.
The Thunderbelles, who were just coming off a five-set stunner over perennial champion Creamline a day before, fell to an even 2-2 slate even after another huge outing from Chinnie Arroyo.
Arroyo, whose 23-point performance against the Cool Smashers paved the way for ZUS Coffee's breakthrough win against Creamline, dropped 20 points this time around.
"Hindi lang ako nakukuntento sa kung ano pa 'yung kaya kong gawin. Gusto ko pang matuto and malaman 'yung areas for correction," Santos said.
"Ito 'yung first time ko na umabot ng 20 pataas. Bumalik lang kami, in-acknowledge namin 'yung nangyari, 'yung mga pagkakamali, 'yung mga lapses. Hindi lang kami nag-stop."
[I'm just not content. I want to learn and I want to know the areas for correction... This is my first time to reach 20 and above. We just came back, we acknowledged what happened, what went wrong, the lapses. We just didn't stop.]
Creamline, meanwhile, also learned a lot from that loss as the multi-titled squad carved out a 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18 win against erstwhile unbeaten Chery Tiggo.
Alyssa Valdez unleashed a vintage performance with her 19 points anchored on 16 attacks and three aces while other veterans Jeanette Panaga and Michele Gumabao chipped in 17 markers apiece as they snapped a rare two-game losing streak to improve to 3-2 in Pool B.
The Crossovers, who emerged victorious in their last three games including a four-set upset against fellow unbeaten Cignal oon Saturday, fell to 3-1 slate.
"Syempre 'yung yesterday hindi maganda 'yung pagkatalo namin. Medyo masikip 'yung standing so nanalo kami ngayon," Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses said.
[Of course, with yesterday, it wasn't good that we lost. The standings are tight so we got the win today.]

ZUS Coffee stuns Creamline in five-set showdown; Chery Tiggo snaps Cignal streak
ZUS Coffee and Chery Tiggo carved out a pair of upset wins in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Saturday at the City of Passi Arena in Iloilo. The Thunderbelles wielded the upset ax on league powerhouse Creamline with a 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 win---a feat that that not only dealt the Cool Smashers a rare second loss in a row but also allowed ZUS to bag its first-ever victory against the multi-titled squad. Chinnie Arroyo was at the forefront for ZUS, churning out 23 points on 22 attacks and an ace while veteran opposite hitter Jovelyn Gonzaga chipped in 12 markers as they improved to 2-1 in Pool B. Creamline, which was coming off a sweep loss to Cignal, fell to a 2-2 card. "Tinatak lang namin sa isip namin na ayun nga, crowd favorite 'yung Creamline pero hindi po dapat kami maapektuhan no'n. Hindi kami nagpadala sa crowd," Arroyo said. "Super malaki 'to sa amin kasi Creamline, champion po 'yan. Malaking bagay po sa amin 'tong game na 'to. Credits po sa lahat, hindi lang po ako 'yung lumaban." In the second game, Chery Tiggo kept its unbeaten run intact while dealing Cignal its first loss after eking out a 25-23, 26-28, 25-15, 25-15 win behind a collective effort. Rookie Rene Peñaflor impressed anew with 18 points while Ara Galang and Cess Robles chimed in with 15 and 14 markers apiece. Middle blocker Imee Hernandez finished with 11 points as the Crossovers racked up their third win in as many games. The HD Spikers, who have won their first three games against Akari, Capital1, and Creamline, saw their winning streak come to an end as they fell to 3-1. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Akari mounts huge Set 3 comeback to complete sweep win vs. Capital1
The Akari Chargers crawled back from eight points down in the third set en route to a 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 win against Capital1 in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the FIlOil EcoOil Centre. The Chargers erased a 21-13 deficit in the final frame thanks to timely substitutions and endgame composure, improving to a 2-3 win-loss card while also denying the Solar Spikers (0-5) their breakthrough win. Eli Soyud paced Akari with 12 points while middle blocker Ezra Madrigal and Grethcel Soltones chipped in 11 and nine markers apiece with the latter collecting 15 digs as well. A regrouped Capital1 unleashed a hot 4-0 start in Set 3 before Rachel Austero unloaded a strong ace to make it a 21-12 cushion for the wards of Alas Women head coach Jorge de Brito. But that didn't take the fight out of Akari with Soltones powering through from the left wing before Capital1's opposite spiker Syd Niegos went wide on her back row kill, pulling the Chargers to within three at 21-18. Shola Alvarez would complete a combination play to bring life back to Capital1, 22-18. But Akari stayed composed with newly-subbed Steph Bustrillo providing the unlikely spark, knocking down the hammer from the opposite side before Soltones broke down the wall to tie things up at 22-all. Kacey Galdones brought Capital to a 23-22 cushion, but Akari answered with three straight points capped by an ace from Kamille Cal and an error from Capital 1 to complete the comeback. In the first game, Nxled had its franchise-best start after a hard-fought sweep victory over Galeries, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23. EJ Cariño was at the forefront of offense with 16 points laced with nine receptions while Jovelyn Fernandez and Chiara Permentilla chipped in 14 and 13 markers apiece as they cruised to an impressive 3-0 card. The Highrisers, meanwhile, fell to a winless 0-3 record. —JMB, GMA Integrated News
